The Cisne FFA Parliamentary Procedure team of Abigail Biggs, Emily Milner, Noah Atwood, Kevin Hyder, Avery Smith, and Isabella Cline won the Illinois FFA State Parliamentary Procedure Leadership Development Event held May 5th at Illinois Central College in Peoria. Individual honors included 1st place Illinois Chair to Kevin Hyder, Top Ten Overall Floor Member Awards 4th to Isabella Cline, 6th to Emily Milner and 10th to Noah Atwood. The Cisne FFA Conduct of Chapter Meetings team members Kaileigh Smallwood, Ella Krupp, Allie Brach, Joshua Biggs, Alex Paul, Hadley Walker and Macy Tannahill finished as the second place team in the Illinois FFA Conduct of Chapter Meetings Leadership Development Event, also held May 5th in Peoria. Biggs was recognized as the 1st place Illinois FFA Chair. Top Ten Overall Floor Member Honors inlcuded Alex Paul, 1st place, Macy Tannahill, tie for 2nd place, and Ella Krupp, 5th place. The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF2 tornado struck parts of Mt. Carmel and Wabash county Thursday evening, causing damage to buildings and uprooting several trees and snapping power poles. The weather service said peak winds were estimated at 115 mph, and the tornado traveled a total of 26 miles, first touching down just southwest of Keensburg and lifting just west of Iona, Indiana, traveling through Wabash, Gibson and Knox counties. No injuries or fatalities were reported. The National Weather Service in St. Louis confirmed an EF1 tornado caused damage north of Breese, IL to areas around Greenville Thursday night, with estimated peak winds of 110 mph. A $1000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the individuals responsible for the theft of Mt. Carmel Public Utility wire. Reports said MCPU had left the wire on the ground as they were in the process of connecting power lines, and when leaving the wire briefly the person or persons stole it. The wire was in the area of Poplar and Walnut between 1st and 2nd Street in Mt. Carmel. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at (618) 262-4258. The USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will mail the Conservation Practice Adoption Motivations Survey beginning Monday, May 30th to over 500 Illinois farmers and ranchers. The new survey is a joint project between the NASS and USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) aimed at better understanding conservation practice adoption and the role of technical and financial assistance. The survey results will be used to guide the implementation of NRCS programs in the future. Recipients are encouraged to respond online at www.agcounts.usda.gov The Fairfield Public Library will hold its "Read Beyond the Beaten Path" summer reading program starting today and running through July 8th. First through eight grade students may register through June 4th. First through third grade students will receive a prize after every 25 easy books read, and older grades will receive a prize after every six juvenile fiction and non-fiction grade level chapter books read. Prizes will be awarded to the top ten readers. Area river stages as of this morning: Little Wabash River east of Fairfield is at 9.23 feet. Flood stage is 17 feet. At Clay City the stage is 17.34 feet. Flood stage is 18 feet, with a crest of 20 feet expected this Tuesday. At Carmi the stage is 9.83 feet. Flood stage is 27 feet. The Skillet Fork at Wayne City is at 5.64 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet. The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is at 13.9 feet. Flood stage is 19 feet.
