Hawks arrest two bogus Eskom ‘employees’ for illegally installing electricity
Two men accused of stealing Eskom property and tampering with infrastructure appeared in the Kwaggafontein Magistrate's Court on 7 May.
The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit in Mpumalanga arrested two men for allegedly stealing Eskom equipment and installing electricity illegally.
Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said they received a tip-off about the accused claiming to work at Eskom and in Kwaggafontein.
ESKOM EQUIPMENT SEIZED FROM SUSPECTS
The Hawks conducted a joint search and seizure operation with Eskom investigators on Thursday, 6 May, where they arrested two men.
“Intelligence was received by the investigating officers regarding people suspected to be impersonating Eskom employees and installing illegal electricity connections for locals arrested in Mpumalanga. The team proceeded to the address received and during the search two males aged 42 and 43 were identified,” said Sekgotodi.
