Well, Gazas Health Ministry says hospitals and medical facilities in the strip have completely collapsed as the United Nations says its humanitarian efforts are in jeopardy with it having less than 24 hours of fuel left. Than 24 hours of fuel left. Well, it follows more than two weeks of a heavy Bombing Campaign and a full blockade on the tiny enclave home to over 2 million people, as a retaliation for hamas attacks earlier this month that killed 1400 israelis. Well, the head of the united nafions well, the head of the United Nations says hes deeply concerned about what he calls clear violation of International Law taking place in gaza. Law taking place in gaza. It is important to also recognise the attacks by hamas did not happen in a vacuum. The did not happen in a vacuum. The Palestinian People have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation. They suffocating occupation. They have seen their land steadily devoured by settlements and plagued by violence. Their plagued by violence. Their economy stifled their people, displaced and their homes demolished. Their hopes for a demolished. Their hopes for a political solution to their plight. Have been vanishing. But plight. Have been vanishing. But the grievances of the Palestinian People cannot justify the appalling attacks by hamas and those appalling attacks cannot justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian People. Palestinian people. Well, overnight, israels continued its heavy bombing of gaza, with local officials saying 5800 people have been killed since october the seventh. The ministry of health in gaza has said 704 people have died in the last day, a figure the Un Relief Agency says is the highest fatality toll reported in a single day since october the 7th. The Associated Press has reported on families being crushed in the rubble of residential buildings, and the un says over a third of gazas 35 hospitals have closed after being hit in airstrikes or starved of fuel. Well, meanwhile, hamas continues to fire rockets into Central Israel. Yesterdays Central Israel. Yesterdays barrage marked a spike in the groups attacks with it being described as the single single largest attack since the war began. Five israelis were wounded in a massive rocket attack yesterday afternoon with warnings sirens leading over a million israelis to head to shelters as well as we know, more than 1400 israelis were killed in attacks earlier this month by hamas gunmen who raided border communities and targeted civilians. Our security editor, mark white has this report from tel aviv about the site of one of the latest israeli airstrikes in Southern Gaza. Southern gaza. Rescuers frantically digging through the rubble for survivors , as israel says it doesnt deliberately target civilians and blames hamas for its cynical use of civilian areas to place its rocket launchers and command and control bunkers. But the and control bunkers. But the resulting Collateral Damage is significant with its clear, huge loss of life aid supplies here are vital, but the united nafions here are vital, but the United Nations says the trickle of trucks crossing the egyptian border is nowhere near enough. While the situation remains extremely dire , we call for an extremely dire, we call for an unimpeded and continuous flow of humanitarian assistance and medical assistance to continue coming into gaza. We feel that coming into gaza. We feel that that we see that the trucks have come in so far are just a trickle in the face of the immense needs of people all on the strip. Across the gaza the strip. Across the gaza skyline, there are regular explosions , dozens, often explosions, dozens, often Israeli Forces responding to the latest launch of hamas rockets. Latest launch of hamas rockets. And despite the huge escalation in israels aerial attacks, there appears to be no shortage in hamas deadly arsenal. Yesterday afternoon , central. Yesterday afternoon, Central Israel suffered its largest barrage of hamas rockets since the attacks. Of october 7th. The attacks. Of october 7th. Size and sounded across tel aviv as the countrys iron dome Missile Defence system intercepted dozens of rockets, some coming northeast of tel aviv. One rocket made it through those defences and badly damaged a building. Those defences and badly damaged a building. It came on the day israel was celebrating a small piece of good news in this conflict with the release of these two elderly hostages , 85 these two elderly hostages, 85 year old yakov said she was determined to help the Israeli Military by telling them as much as she can about her ordeal. As she can about her ordeal. Already, at this early stage , already, at this early stage, the israeli authorities have been given valuable insight into what happened to these two hostages. On october the seventh. Theyll be speaking to both women in the coming days to try to gain a greater understanding , try to gain a greater understanding, reading of try to gain a greater understanding , reading of the understanding, reading of the conditions they were held in after his meeting with israeli leaders, the french president , Emmanuel Macron, met the Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas determined to focus minds on a more positive future after this conflict. But future after this conflict. But for those burying their dead in israel and in gaza, any talk of peace must be the very last thing on their minds. Mark white gb news tel aviv. Well lets get the latest now live from mark white in tel aviv. Very good morning to you, mark. And lets talk about those comments from the un secretary general which has really sparked fury in israel overnight. Overnight. Yeah, real anger right across israel at the remarks by un secretary general Antonio Guterres, who said that the attacks on the 7th of october, although absolutely inexcusable , although absolutely inexcusable, did not happen in a vacuum , and did not happen in a vacuum, and that the Palestinian People have suffered 56 years of suffocating occupation, that theyve had their land steadily devoured by settlement sites and that theyve been plagued by violence. Now understandably, the un ambassador and others across israel have been putting their point very vociferously on this and saying that the un secretary general is completely out of touch with the reality on the ground and that he is actually in terms of what he said , theyre not really said, theyre not really reflecting what is going on in gaza at the moment. There has been no Israeli Forces inside gaza. Theres no occupation version of gaza in that sense since 2005. However, of course , since 2005. However, of course, there has been an encirclement , there has been an encirclement, if you like, a blockade of gaza ever since, and it has been tightly controlled by israel. Tightly controlled by israel. But the un ambassador from israel has called on Antonio Guterres to resign because of those comments. Hes been told by other officials that he is not welcome anymore in israel. Not welcome anymore in israel. Guess if nothing else, mark, this highlights just how complex , nice and delicate this situation really is at the moment as international communities, you know, want to work out how to move fonnard while supporting israel, but also so not turning their backs on the plight of Palestinian Civilians as yeah, i think clearly Antonio Guterres was trying to straddle both lines in saying that there was no justification for those attacks. But then as far as the israelis see it, giving a justification with those comments about the 56 years of occupation , etcetera, he did say occupation, etcetera, he did say in terms of clear violations of humanitarian law , that it was humanitarian law, that it was not just past violations that he was seeing from israel, but also the use of civilians as human shields, which is obviously a hamas tactic. But in this hamas tactic. But in this conflict with this issue , you conflict with this issue, you its difficult. You take one side or the other, you criticise it. Of course, by the other side. But if you try to take both sides, youre criticised by both sides, youre criticised by both sides, youre criticised by both sides. Both sides. Yeah, indeed. Look, mark, were going to catch up with you later on. For now, thanks very much indeed. Well, families across israel and indeed across the world continue to wait for news of missing loved ones, feared either dead or kidnapped by hamas during the attack on october the seventh. This is rmt in israel receiving confirmation that her 21 year old son is alive. She got some footage of him, but that video also confirming that he is being held captive by hamas. Captive by hamas. When i saw the video clip , i when i saw the video clip, i saw his face. He covered himself, but he was looking frightened , frightened. And it frightened, frightened. And it was very hard for me to see him like this because because its not its not my son. You know, my son is a happy guy. All the time. Smile and we laugh together and hes full of he has lots of friends. And suddenly to lots of friends. And suddenly to see him in this situation is alone by himself. Alone by himself. Well, elie has more on the hostage crisis. Hostage crisis. Thanks, stephen. Well, there is fresh hope now that more hostages will be released by hamas to try and avoid a full blown invasion of gaza by israel. Its estimated that 200 people were kidnapped by hamas on october the 7th, including many children. Among those missing are foreign nationals from across the world, including at least five britons. But the israeli authorities warn that some of those missing may already be dead and have yet to be identified. Well, among those be identified. Well, among those missing is nine month old kfir and three year old ariel and their mother, shiri, and their father , yarden. Here in the uk, father, yarden. Here in the uk, relatives of those missing have been making heartbreaking appeals for their return. Now yesterday they were talking about freeing some hostages. About freeing some hostages. Its really confusing. Its its really confusing. Its like a psychological torture for us. The like a psychological torture for us. The families here in the release in this one or this one, we want them , all of them back. We want them, all of them back. And we want all of them back. Now, together , i we tell my now, together, i we tell my brother and his family how much i love them. I always knew how i love them. I always knew how much he loved me. I never knew how much i loved him. You you how much i loved him. You you cant even imagine what those families are going through, can you . Its very well, its very difficult. Doesnt even difficult. That doesnt even begin it, does it . Begin to do it, does it . Horrific okay, lets move on. Should to we the situation here in the uk . Because imagine returning to your flooded home or business to save what you can access the damage only to be told the more heavy rain and flooding is on the way. Well, thats the reality for thousands of families this week across the midlands and yorkshire with a yellow alert in place. Our reporters, anna riley place. Our reporters, anna riley and will hollis, have been out speaking to people affected by the flooding. The flooding. Were here in catcliffe in rotherham south yorkshire, where the effects of storm babet are still being felt. There were 250 homes that were evacuated , dated homes that were evacuated, dated on saturday, and now the clean up, clean up effort continues. Im here with chris lloyd. Hes a resident who was evacuated on saturday. And you might be able to see behind us the water actually came up about six foot to the ground floor window. So, chris, just tell us a little bit about that evacuation and how are you feeling now . Well were very angry. Were very upset as well. The evacuation was from a neighbour. Nobody official. We got knocked up at 3 am, move your cars, move some stuff as quick as you can. The move some stuff as quick as you can. The barrier is going to breach. And currently we people are moving things out of your home. I can see bits of carpet around your possessions, but some things just cant be replaced , things just cant be replaced, can they . No, its definitely things cant be things that mean something to us. Sophies aunties piano thats gone. Shes recently passed away and things from mom and dad and theyve passed away. I had those in there which id moved but not moved. I enough. Thank you, chris. And so sorry for what youve lost sorry for. For what youve lost sorry for. For what youve lost so clean effort does come so the clean up effort does come to you here and as weve mentioned, you know, it could be up to 12 months before people in this community are back in their homes, with many of them feeling angry and frustrated and worrying about returning. Its been a really tough few days for people that live on darell road here in retford in north nottinghamshire. Peoples north nottinghamshire. Peoples homes that have never flooded before flooding for the first time over the weekend in other areas of retford places that flood quite regularly experiencing the nightmare. All over again, raising questions as to whether flood defences are in the right place or whether the right funding was allocated to an area that was told it would be getting some form of flood funding. Right now it is still funding. Right now it is still raining, but a lot of the flood waters have gone back. The river idle over the weekend got to its highest levels on record , but highest levels on record, but that now has subsided and there are still flood warnings for lots of places here in the east midlands, as well as along the river trent. But the flood warnings for retford have now been removed by the Environment Agency , which is a good sign for agency, which is a good sign for people that have experienced devasting station and despair on a level that most people cant even comprehend. It is a tough even comprehend. It is a tough few days, if not weeks and months for the people of roads just like this one. And at the end of this week there is still more rain to come. Will hollis there it is 6 17. This is breakfast on gb news with stephen and ellie. Lets just remind you of the main stories this morning and the United Nations chief is under fire. Humans are allowed to make mistakes, but if you have to learn from them, othennise youre just going to continue to make that same mistake. Kirkham is not unique in its issues with anti social behaviour. Its a problem being faced by councils up and down the country on a daily basis. Were all very proud of our town. We want kirkham to be the best it can be. What we need to do is support and tackle the root cause of some of the issues and thats why were working in partnership with the police and with adam. And we think its a worthwhile from worthwhile investment from the town council and town council to sponsor and support this initiative in full as part of operation centurion. As part of operation centurion. Lancashire police has been given £2 million of government funding in order to crack down on antisocial social behaviour in the county. It gives us more money to put those extra resources and those extra visible resources on the streets which people like to see because its that little bit of reassurance. Paul coyte here. Good morning, paul. Morning, paul. Good morning. How are you . Yeah, all right. How are you . Im very good. Yes, very good. Manchester united. I think we should talk about Manchester United. I we should. And united. I think we should. And firstly, a lovely tribute sir firstly, a lovely tribute to sir bobby obviously Bobby Charlton there. Obviously there something. There was going to be something. There will around other there will be around other football as well. But football clubs as well. But Manchester United, of course, the sir bobby there we the home of sir bobby there we are. Never die. In are. Well never die. Thats in reference to to the 58, the reference to to the the 58, the plane crash that bobby was involved in. A lot of his. Involved in. Lost a lot of his. There we are. And his team mates. Theres erik ten hag there in the middle holding the wreath as they walk out into the middle of the pitch on the right hand side. Thats alex stepney now. Stepney , legendary now. Alex stepney, legendary manchester goalkeeper , Manchester United goalkeeper, ever played from the 60s right through the 70s. And thats a young youth player. Thats also either side. So thats either side of erik ten hag thats quite nice actually, because hes sort of spans the decades. Absolutely absolutely. And i think thats the whole point of that. Also that. And theres there was also no and also no there was silence and also the applause as well. So we were talking yesterday about whats the best way if there is such a best way to actually, you know, to commemorate someone as important as Bobby Charlton. But there we are , a minutes there we are, a minutes silence, observed by silence, perfectly observed by all supporters about copenhagen and Manchester United. And Manchester United. You cant hear a pin drop, can you . No. It must be very emotional. Its and also its probably , you know, if we can probably, you know, if we can say it came at the right time, the right team to play copand hagan, theyre going to come over not theres any link with them, but its often when its rivals, etcetera. Them, but its often when its rivals, ethena. Them, but its often when its rivals, ethen if youre going to and then if youre going to have some idiot in the crowd, but impeccably observed. But it was impeccably observed. And far as game goes , it and as far as the game goes, it was a 1 0 win for Manchester United. And i tell you what, it united. And i tell you what, it really was. It was it was a hell of a game. And also we can talk about two players that were involved in this playing for Manchester United that have, you know, have been through a really tough time. One of them, Harry Maguire right now, Maguire Maguire right now, Harry Maguire defender, Harry Maguire, it looked career at looked like his career at Manchester United was over. He Manchester United was over. He was dropped. He was expected to leave. Erik ten hag had had him as like the fifth choice. Hed had his captaincy taken away and now cometh the hour cometh the man. Its just a bit of a kick up the backside that he needed. Maybe you know, maybe thats whats done it. But some some players would just disappear. But it worked for him. Scored the goal. For him. So scored the goal. There we go. Hes making the thats supposed to a heart thats supposed to be a heart shape the way making shape by the way hes making i dont know he can dont know whether he can actually his fingers around actually get his fingers around that, but thats to the old trafford crowd. Scored the trafford crowd. He scored the winning kissed winning goal and then he kissed the but then the badge as well. But then straight after that, i said a little bit after that in the 97th so it looked like 97th minute. So it looked like it was going be a great win it was going to be a great win for Manchester United. Copenhagen 97th copenhagen get a penalty 97th minute yordan larsson, minute and its yordan larsson, who son of henrik who is the son of henrik larsson, played larsson, who also played for manchester goes up steps Manchester United, goes up steps to the penalty and its to score the penalty and its saved by andre onana. Good boy. Saved by andre onana. Good boy. So andre onana, whod also there, he is also got a tough time because he hasnt been playing that well. And the unlikely heroes become the heroes so it ends up. Yeah, thats quite nice, actually. A very good night for man. Very good. Quite like that one. Quite like that one. What about gabriel . Jesus for arsenal. Yes. Well played very well. An well played. Very well. An assist a goal for arsenal assist in a goal for arsenal because they beat sevilla two one in spain and arsenal got terrible el terrible record in arsenal. Theyve only won three out of 17 over there in spain, but they managed to win. But gabriel, jesus went off injured bit of a hammy problem by the sauna and pulled a hamstring so could be out for a little while, but a good result and they played very well as well. So and whats coming up tonight for us, katie we have celtic are not good in celtic who are not so good in the Champions League. Going to be very tricky for them to atletico madrid, them at home to atletico madrid, newcastle against Newcastle United against borussia in borussia dortmund. Theyre in that with that group of death with psg. I mean, theyve already thrashed paris saint germain, drew with milan, dortmund milan, theyre playing dortmund who tonight and also who are bottom tonight and also the boys of bern, young the young boys of bern, young boys in switzerland who play on the plastic pitch will be entertaining manchester city. So that shouldnt be a problem for manchester city. That has got to be aware of a very high bouncing ball. Oh, is that what it does . Oh, is that what it does . Yeah. Yeah, it does do that. And its amazing that its actually allowed in the champions when Champions League. But when youre switzerland, you need youre in switzerland, you need an pitch because it an all weather pitch because it does fair bit does tend to snow a fair bit there. Thats a fair point. There. Oh, thats a fair point. So thats why thats why for the plastic pitch. Yeah. What plastic pitch. Yeah. Thats what we got tonight. Lovely stuff. Catch up with paul, well catch up with you a little later on. Thank a little bit later on. Thank you. Thank a little bit later on. Thank you. Thank you very much indeed. And her and her husband are 79 year old husband. He was taken hostage as well, although he is still in captivity. But i mean, yeah, as captivity. But i mean, yeah, as i say, its a powerful moment. Obviously, its a propaganda exercise by hamas as well to be releasing them. Its great that shes been released, but she talks about how her nightmare is still going on. She still remembers , obviously, what it remembers, obviously, what it was like to be taken captive of and she says that she was her legs were tied as she was taken from her home. She was put on a motorbike hitting with a wooden pole and didnt break her rib, she says. But obviously it was very painful and were seeing this drip, drip of hostages being released. But clearly being released. But clearly still hundreds are still being held by hamas and the conflict goes on. And i cant help but is it the cynic in me . Cant help but wonder if we read too much into this video in the sense that shes 85, shes been held for two and a half weeks. Shes clearly dazed and not knowing quite whats going on as shes being released and shes just saying goodbye to someone. I mean, no, its no criticism of her. No, of course not. But i just wonder if were we read too much into it. I think maybe thats the case. But i i think maybe thats the case. Buti mean, i think maybe thats the case. But i mean, what i find shocking as well is its interesting how various news outlets covered youve outlets have covered it. Youve got the on their front page got the sun on their front page going, oh, my hell inspired as well. The hamas tunnels, the bbc originally went on. I was treated very well as a headline, which they have changed. So its interesting. On how various outlets are reporting it and the papers all sort of like papers are all sort of like pretty much on the peace gesture, as you say, gesture, which as you say, stephen, mean, video has stephen, i mean, this video has been released by hamas as well. Been released by hamas as well. So its well, they would so its like, well, they would do , wouldnt they . And as do that, wouldnt they . And as kevins just pointed out, this lady and her husband have both worked for peace their entire lives. I mean, they used to work lives. I mean, they used to work very closely with the palestinians and help them as much as possible. So the irony of them being kidnapped and, you know, the other part of this of course, she would turn and say, you know, shalom, peace, because her husband is still there. Lets not forget that her husband is still there. So shes leaving her husband, who is also in his mid 80s. And my mums roughly same this. Roughly the same age as this. This and i think of what this lady and i think of what shes been through flung over the back of a motorcycle and beaten with sticks and then made to walk through these tunnels , to walk through these tunnels, which are 300 miles. Im not suggesting she walked 300 miles, but a woman her mid 80s with but a woman in her mid 80s with health i imagining health issues. I keep imagining my through that and my mum going through that and its horrific. So yeah, the fact that she turned around said , that she turned around and said, shalom, is amazing. Thats shalom, peace is amazing. Thats what shes done all her life. And it just goes to show how even evil and utterly distressing what is going on on both sides of this, because people ordinary people are suffering. It really is. Suffering. It really is. I think it says more about her, though, doesnt it, than it does about hamas. She said, of course she has stayed so true to her, her own values. Shes been a peace activist her whole life and even even then, after everything, as you say, dawn, everything shes been through such an ordeal that she could turn say peace. She could turn and say peace. One thing i do think the one thing i do think looking the video ah, and looking at the video ah, and looking at the video ah, and looking the stills pictures looking at the stills pictures of in hospital was if you of her in hospital was if you looked at pictures of from looked at pictures of her from what . She was in what . 16 days she was in captivity. You look at the picture her kibbutz picture of her on her kibbutz with husband happy, smiling with her husband happy, smiling in garden. She looked like in the garden. She looked like a very healthy, chubby ish woman of a certain age. And you look at her now and shes totally drawn, very drawn, very ill lost loads of weight and such a traumatic i mean, lets face it, youre never going to get over that. Youre going to remember not forever. Its so traumatic. And you know, not withstanding the fact that her husband is still being held hostage. So its being held hostage. So its obviously great that shes been released. However as she says, a nightmare goes on. And you can completely understand how we how we do a gear change from something as horrific to that to something as horrific to that to something which is light hearted. I dont know. But were going to try. Were going to try with a Little Family guy. A little bit of family guy. Believe or not. Have a look believe it or not. Have a look at this. The millions from netflix for no one knows what put it with the rest of them. The rest of them. Babe. Time to do our daily 250,000 sponsored Instagram Post for del taco. Post for del taco. Oh, i shouldnt have left the made up nonsense. Made up nonsense. Oh, i wonder who that could be about then, dawn. Well, yeah, absolutely. Yeah. Well, yeah, absolutely. Yeah. Made up nonsense as youre talking about. Made up nonsense as youre talking about. Well, made up nonsense as youre talking about. Well, his family or the books theyve written since. Yeah look, in all this darkness , i think we can have a darkness, i think we can have a laugh, cant we . I mean, we need a laugh. We need some escapism. A laugh. We need some escapism. Its not taking away anything from the horrors that are going on in israel and palestine. But this is. Yeah this is after south park. Remember south park february, where they did Harry National privacy. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We want our privacy. Which camera am i looking at . But this is , this is south park. This is is, this is south park. This is south park. This is family guy. And the main character, peter griffin, is sitting in a bar with friend and thinking of with his friend and thinking of ways more money. And ways he can make more money. And he to go it he goes, im going to go it alone. Just like sussex. And alone. Just like the sussex. And then to that scene. Then that cuts to that scene. There i mean, because and the butler, just seen, butler, as youve just seen, comes you know, sir, your comes up, you know, sir, your millions from netflix for no one knows what and just it knows what and its just so it just because what are just nails it because what are they being paid millions to do . No one actually knows. No im implying lazy work shy, implying theyre lazy work shy, and just in it for the and maybe just in it for the money. Possibly. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Id like to think theyd be able to laugh at themselves that they will see the funny side of this. But i doubt it. Im not sure. Ill tell you what i do find interesting about this is because it is family guy is so huge. Yeah. Is that will this impact their reputation in the in the us . Well interesting well its interesting actually. It shows that this is how viewed by a how theyre viewed by a satirical comedy like family guy. I think its quite telling isnt it that and theres been maybe the americans are a bit sick of them. Maybe theres been a few chat shows as well that have ribbed them, havent there . So i think them, havent there . So i think the tide turning. The tide is turning. It must said that it has it must be said that it has been a little bit quieter over on harry and meghan on the harry and meghan front. Their spotify well, they lost their spotify weeks did with the podcast weeks they did with the podcast because that wasnt very successful. Is successful. Im not sure what is it doing for netflix . Theres oth nothumentaries. Oh, i dont know. Theres oth not aboutntaries. Oh, i dont know. Theres oth not about themselves, isnt not about themselves, isnt it . Its any of them been have any of them been produced seen. Produced yet . I havent seen. Theres another book to come. Theyre getting paid for it. Theyre getting paid for it. Excellent. Yeah look oh, excellent. Yeah look fonnard to that. Lovely were to take look. Were going to take a short because still to short break because still to come, to talking come, were to talking gossip guru hilton about britney guru perez hilton about Britney Spears bombshell memoir. Thats n ext good next good morning to you. Its 645. Lets have a look at the main stories. So far this morning. Israel have fallen out with the United Nations after their chief accused them of causing the build up in tensions that led to the october of the seventh massacre. Homes devastated families in temporary accommodation and no hope of a return by christmas. Hope of a return by christmas. Thats what its looking like at the moment. Well bring you the latest on the clean up after storm babet and the government are taking migrants out of hotels in battleground seats. Hotels in battleground seats. Are they playing politics with human lives . Theres also a picture of Britney Spearss new book. You there . Yeah the woman in me. Its called okay. Lets talk through some of those then with Political Editor of huffpost, Kevin Schofield , of huffpost, Kevin Schofield, former editor the daily star. Former editor of the daily star. Dawn. Good we dawn neesom. Good morning. We mentioned hotels. Kevin, mentioned migrant hotels. Kevin, this in the sun, amongst this is in the sun, amongst others, a quarter of them to be gone by spring, which begs the question , all well and good. Question, all well and good. Where are the people to going go . Well, the government are silent on that. I mean, theyre saying that theyre bringing down the numbers, which is true. Actually, the numbers have come down, i think, by about 20. Yeah, but thats over on the small boats, on the on the small boats. But yeah , i mean, where boats. But yeah, i mean, where they are going to put them, we dont know. I mean theres been talk of they have and converted former military bases into to accommodation centres but youre talking lots and lots of people , talking lots and lots of people, thousands and thousands. I dont know where theyre all going to go. And also its worth pointing out this will be if they make good on this promise and close a quarter of them by the spring, 300 will still be open and yeah, rishi said in january that rishi sunak said in january that it was going to close them all. And so youre closing them at that rate. I cant see them all being closed by the next general. Well, not if were putting 39 people a time on a barge thats going to take a long time to chip away for a long time to chip away for a long time, chip away itself. I mean, the whole point of this is to save money. Its costing £8 million a to put them in million a day to put them in hotels. But the barge isnt free. The barge is no cheap, especially when consider how especially when you consider how few people are actually on the barge and Asylum Seekers are housed in these hotels. In 400 Hotels Across the uk , in 400 Hotels Across the uk, £8 million a day is costing us and ministers are branded that unacceptable. Well, it always was unacceptable. Its not just suddenly happened, is and be suddenly happened, is it . And be phased but the hotels have phased out. But the hotels have announced real key announced first and the real key constituent is the run up to the next election. I mean, cynical next election. I mean, cynical us. I next election. I mean, cynical us. I mean, next election. I mean, cynical us. I mean, actually every us. I mean, actually every constituency is going to be key in the next election. Arent they in danger of losing all of them at the last by elections . Are anything go by. But it is are anything to go by. But it is its one those cynical things its one of those cynical things were to going now in the were to going get now in the run up election in where, run up to an election in where, as kevin, theyll as you say, kevin, theyll announce things. But the announce these things. But the devil is in that detail and no one ever mentions the detail. Where people to go . Oh, yeah, but you make a good point that a lot of hotels point that a lot of these hotels are in marginal seats where, you know, an an know, this is an issue, an absolutely key issue, which will, win some votes will, im sure, win some votes for conservatives for the conservatives they have caused a lot of but they have caused a lot of controversy, a controversy, havent they . A lot of, know, tourist industry of, you know, tourist industry for mean, there was for a start. I mean, there was one hotel in cornwall. Were one hotel in cornwall. They were offered over £1 million to rent the hotel out for just Asylum Seekers. And the tourist seekers. And ruin the tourist trade the entire trade there. But the entire little depended Little Village depended on the tourist trade. The hotel, to tourist trade. So the hotel, to be to them, said, were be fair to them, said, no, were not that because this not doing that because this entire depends on entire village depends on us getting them. Getting tourists in for them. And destroyed the and it would have destroyed the industry, the tourist industry industry, the tourist industry in that area. So its in that area. Yeah so its causing problems, causing all sorts of problems, not much its costing taxpayers. Well, mind you, you talk about these hotels. They all about all these hotels. They all riddled bedbugs. About all these hotels. They all rid oh, bedbugs. About all these hotels. They all rid oh, god bedbugs. About all these hotels. They all rid oh, god. edbugs. Oh, god. Oh, god. So are you good at this . Arent you doing this . Seamless links, semi professional, semi professional, very semi. Semi professional, very semi. Yeah. This is the daily stars front page. Psycho scumbag vlad makes psycho scumbag critter crisis worse. I dont write the crisis worse. I dont write the headunes crisis worse. I dont write the headlines this is basically, you know, the bed bug scandal that we all facing at the moment. Theyre invading from france, coming over on their small boats, staying in our hotels, etcetera,. But the etcetera, etcetera. But the french now, because this is where it started, evidently in paris and sort of like the bed bug invasion, they were riddled with it. The french are now saying actually they think its proper ganda fake news put out on media by russian bots. On social media by russian bots. Well why harm to spread spread fear over the crisis. As you as you said earlier on, stephen, this isnt really spreading fear. Fear. I mean, there are other things. Im slightly more worried about than bed bugs, to be honest with you. Yeah, there are some bigger things on the world at things going on in the world at the moment, but the french are accusing the russians of saying they seeking to damage accusing the russians of saying they reputation ng to damage accusing the russians of saying they reputation of to damage accusing the russians of saying they reputation of theiamage accusing the russians of saying they reputation of the country their reputation of the country before olympics. Their reputation of the country bef oh, olympics. Their reputation of the country beth, so olympics. Their reputation of the country beth, so thats ics. Their reputation of the country beth, so thats what their reputation of the country bef oh, so thats what this their reputation of the country beth, so thats what this is oh, so thats what this is all about. So the french are saying that all about. Bed 1e french are saying that all about. Bed bugsnch are saying that all about. Bed bugs problem iaying that all about. Bed bugs problem isnt; that all about. Bed bugs problem isnt a. Hat problem. Theyre saying its not a problem. Its a reputational damage. That, wouldnt would say that, wouldnt they . It should. They . Because it should. I read somewhere they i read somewhere that they were mattresses were burning their mattresses and, thats it, and, you know, maybe thats it, you see. Well getting his oh well vlads getting his way isnt he. Way then isnt he. Its all part of his cunning plan. Oh, those parisians without their mean, thats their mattresses. I mean, thats a cunning plan. A cunning war plan. You do wonder. You do wonder with all this of thing. With all of this sort of thing. Kevin lets a fun kevin lets have a bit of fun with. With its not often you can say you have a bit of fun with storm babet because its been misery. However the dogs have enjoyed yeah have enjoyed it. Yeah theres this viral video so theres this viral video of two dogs in. North ireland of two dogs in. North ireland and jumping and playing. I dont know if youve seen it jumping and playing through the foam, which was generated by the high winds and the sea and its quite incredible actually, when you when you see it. Yeah oh, look at that. Oh, look at that. Oh, look at that. Oh, look at that. Oh, wow. Oh, wow. Oh, wow. Ive never, ever seen anything like that in my life. Its like a giant washing up liquid. Yeah. Yeah. If youre if youre listening in on the radio, its like being in on the radio, its like being in a big bubble bath. I can only describe it as that and all the bubbles. And youve got two dogs kind of racing through the middle party. Yeah, middle for a foam party. Yeah, a foam party for dogs. Getting the stink, you getting the stink, though . Because its all. Its like decaying algae or something. Its horrible. Something. But horrible. Something. But horr dogs dont care. But the dogs dont care. Obviously love it in the obviously they love it in the bath when they get back. You wouldnt have rex in that, would you . No well, try and stop him. Thats the trouble. They . Try, dont they . Try, dont they . Oh, you have wellies on oh, you have your wellies on and us. Oh are and youll be joining us. Oh are you surely. Yes. Im on to be. Be fair i im on to be. Should we talk, brittany . Because for because ill tell you for why perez has changed his perez hilton has changed his mind. He wants to do tomorrow instead. And maybe had late one last night. Who knows . I dont think so. I think story be a bit i think the story might be a bit done by tomorrow. Yeah but anyway, so brittany, the woman in have to say, its in me and i have to say, its a bit a mills and boon bit like a mills and boon because its very, very big print. Deposit you this print. I deposit you this morning. It you who said morning. Was it you who said its more like an essay than a. Oh no its paul coyte. Was it. Does he read it. Does he read it. More essay than its more like an essay than a novel. Yeah. Yeah. Wouldnt take you long. It wouldnt take you long. How pages it . How many pages is it . How many pages . How many pages . Oh, well, let me see. Da da da da da. Its 275. And thats what our whole life. Its on double. Id say and its on double. Id say double so 150 pages. Shes done a lot in her life. I mean, shes had shes had a tough life to be fair, hasnt she, about it . Yeah. I mean, she talks about getting pregnant by Justin Timberlake they both timberlake when they were both teen stars having to teen stars and then having to shoot. Into quite shoot. It goes into quite graphic actually, about graphic detail, actually, about 17 or having an at home abortion. Think that 17 or having an at home aborpart think that 17 or having an at home aborpart is think that 17 or having an at home aborpart is quite think that 17 or having an at home aborpart is quite moving. That 17 or having an at home aborpart is quite moving. Sot that part is quite moving. So ive heard. And then she also talks about her conservative ship as well. She does. She does. She was under her where she was under her fathers control, really control several years. Yeah. Everything finances shocking though, because he literally had control over her womb. Yes. It was like you couldnt yes. It was like you couldnt have children. You know, you had have children. You know, you had to use contraception on. And its like shocking that a grown woman body could be owned literally owned by her dad. Its a very odd and very uncomfortable situation. But uncomfortable situation. But then you have to say thats all ended. Then you have to say thats all ended. And then what happens . Ended. And then what happens . She got married and divorced again and its all i dont know. Its a bit worrying. Its a bit worrying. All i know about britney now is i just see endless clips onune is i just see endless clips online of her dancing mostly naked around her kitchen , waving naked around her kitchen, waving knives around. Yeah, quite sad. Yeah, its quite sad. Yeah, its quite sad. Yeah, its quite sad. Yeah, sad. Yeah, its sad. Yeah, its sad. Thats not really normal. You do have worry her. Do have to worry about her. Mental wasnt cry me mental wasnt. Wasnt cry me a was that the justin a river. Was that the Justin Timberlake that about. Timberlake song was that about. Oh, better oh, very good kevin better knowledge that oh, very good kevin better knowlw britney that oh, very good kevin better knowleritney spears . That about Britney Spears . Dont know. I dont know. I dont know. Apparently so. So people are connecting the now on connecting the dots now on social media. She has she has social media. So she has she has a song every time, which a song called every time, which is not going to sing it, but is im not going to sing it, but theres baby at the of theres a baby at the end of that song, which which people are saying about are now saying is about that abortion she she had abortion that she that she had that knowledge though. That baby knowledge though. Yeah. Wm yeah. In response in and then in response in response, timberlake response, Justin Timberlake released remember released crimea must remember crimea river. The crimea river well the only crimea river i know is the Crystal Gayle know is the one by Crystal Gayle all right. All right. This is a totally different one. One. Totally different one. Totally different one. So thats i mean, i wasnt a massive Justin Timberlake fan. I have to admit. But that is a decent. Were you in nsync fan then, kevin . Were you were you in your big trainers and your big puffer jacket and baseball cap . Ive got you down more as ac dc metallica. What do you reckon . Let me know. No, wrong. Oh, let me know. No, wrong. Oh, come on. The proclaimers. The come on. The proclaimers. The proclaimers. Oh, there you go. Proclaimers. Oh, there you go. Oh, cliche we got there in the end. What a surprise. Life band. End. What a surprise. Life band. Look, i just. Im always very suspicious of these sort of things. I mean, she clearly hasnt written herself. No , no, you can tell just by no, no, you can tell just by the way its written. I must. I must confess, i havent read ive read excerpts. Read it. Ive read excerpts. That intentional . But was that intentional . I must confess, a Britney Spears lyric. Thats britney lyric. There thats a Britney Spears you just spears lyric. I thought you just i confess , and i didnt i must confess, and i didnt know that im im team madness. Im britney. Im britney. Im britney. I did quite like. Im britney. I did quite like. But on i did quite like. But on a serious, serious note, i think this was two thousand and seven when Britney Spears actually had her breakdown. I do think reading this, only the few little excerpts have little excerpts that i have read, would be treated read, she would be treated differently now. Lot more ms3. Absolutely. A lot more ms3. Absolutely. A lot more ms3. Yeah. I think she has yeah, yeah. I think she has had a very, tough had a very, very tough time, very tough media, very tough in the media, especially ill tell what, especially ill tell you what, child stars who would want to be a child star, which parent would want to be a child star . Because its a recipe for disaster, isnt it . Yeah, but then again, ive seen it time and time again. Its interesting to talk about the Mental Health and how the Mental Health aspect and how different would be treated. Different she would be treated. I editing the national i was editing the National Newspaper that, newspaper when she did that, shaving and when shaving off her hair and when attacking paparazzi with an umbrella. And splashed on umbrella. And we splashed on that very dramatic that that picture very dramatic picture. All papers picture. And its all the papers did wasnt just mine and it sold really well would you do really well but would you do that now. I cant remember what the headline was, but im sure it wasnt as sympathetic as it would be. Now know someone having a now i know someone having a mental for mental breakdown, a cry for help, a personal crisis. Absolutely. Help, a personal crisis. And absolutely. Help, a personal crisis. And she solutely. Help, a personal crisis. And she said. Ely. Help, a personal crisis. And she said. Elythe time it and she said at the time it was because she like she was because she felt like she was, you know, gratified really by the media and stared at and she get rid of it, essentially. Thats why she shaved her head now by all her head now by taking all her clothes off dancing and clothes off and dancing and putting it on social media. I mean, as you say, theres mental issues that, Mental Health issues here that, yeah, imagine. Yeah. And we dont really know well she is now, do we . Yeah. And we dont really kthink well she is now, do we . Yeah. And we dont really kthink sheszll she is now, do we . Yeah. And we dont really kthink shes had 1e is now, do we . Yeah. And we dont really kthink shes had a is now, do we . Yeah. And we dont really kthink shes had a very, w, do we . Yeah. And we dont really kthink shes had a very, very we . I think shes had a very, very difficult life. But if theres one positive to take from this, shes found voice. At least shes found her voice. At least even its through even if its through a ghost writer. Now ghost writer. I mean, were now heanng ghost writer. I mean, were now hearing of events hearing her version of events for first time. Its happened. And i just think i do wonder why people do this. What write a book . When you read some of these, im not going to read it out because little bit out because its a little bit once upon a time. Come on, stephen. But you know, a bit too personal. Come on, stephen. But you knosome a bit too personal. Come on, stephen. But you kno some ofbit too personal. Come on, stephen. But you knosome ofbit treally sonal. Come on, stephen. But you knosome ofbit treally s0|that some of the really is that ill tell in a minute i just ill tell you in a minute i just dont want to say on breakfast tv but you know its a bit think why you i dont know why why would you i dont know why youd share that level youd want to share that level of information. Youd want to share that level of inguession. Youd want to share that level of inguess that was part of the i guess that was part of the deal i guess that was part of the deal, probably. Yeah. Well you the yeah. Well give you the deal yeah. Well give you the deal. It has to be no holds deal. But it has to be no holds barred thats what barred because thats what people read. People want to read. Yeah, i suppose so. Yeah. Yeah, i suppose so. Yeah. Yeah, i suppose so. Has two children, she has got two children, though, so i wonder what they make of this book and probably heanng make of this book and probably hearing time their hearing for the first time their mothers account things. Mothers account of things. I think theyve under the think theyve been under the care their father obviously care of their father obviously since shes been in the conservatorship. So so thatll be interesting. And thats be very interesting. And thats who her book to, who she dedicates her book to, actually. Her two sons. Yeah wouldnt ill tell you so i wouldnt ill tell you what, all these you get it now, dont you . I mean, Everyone Wants reality and wants to be on reality tv and everyone know, Everyone Wants, you know, everybody nowadays. Everybody wants fame nowadays. Its a kiss of death for a lot of people. So stephen, if they phoned up tomorrow go on tomorrow and asked you to go on strictly dancing or bake strictly come dancing or bake off, oh, look, biscuit, off, maybe. Oh, look, a biscuit, perhaps have. Perhaps they have. Well no. Well, ive i do. Well no. Well, ive always said because people do. Always said because people do. Youre hesitating. Youre hesitating. Do strictly for sure. You do strictly for sure. You do strictly for sure. I dont think i would. I no, i dont think i would. I dont think definitely dont think i definitely wouldnt bake wouldnt do the jungle ii bake off thats a bit off because thats just a bit lighter. No, ive always lighter. But no, ive always been i dont to do been like, i dont want to do that sort of thing. But you never know. Never say, depends how check is, basically. How big the check is, basically. Anyway, thank you both anyway, look, thank you both very indeed. More from you very much indeed. More from you in a moment. Lets have a look at the weather. Hello. Very good morning. Its a grim picture, though, for many as more heavy rain and flooding is still to come with anti social behaviour and youth crime on the rise, could boxing be a way of getting young people off the streets . Streets . For us, we are allowing them to gain control of their thoughts. So what you have to always realise is consequence. Always realise is consequence. So actions have consequences. So actions have consequences. Now, of course , as much of now, of course, as much of the country continues to battle with that pretty wild weather. Alex has got all your weather updates for you this morning. Good morning. The heavy rain in the southeast will clear this morning, but there is further rain to come. Ill have more details later. And as always, paul coyte will have the latest from the world of sport. Good morning. Late drama at manchester knighted as they honour sir Bobby Charlton. Honour sir Bobby Charlton. Arsenal winning the Champions League. Theres a change league. And theres a change in world ahead. Paul thank you. Good morning. Im Stephen Dixon and im Ellie Costello and this is breakfast on. Gb news. This is breakfast on. Gb news. Well our main news this morning in Gazas Health Ministry says hospitals and medical facilities in the strip have complete completely collapsed as the un says its humanitarian efforts are in jeopardy with gaza having less than 24 hours of fuel left. Less than 24 hours of fuel left. Well, it follows more than two weeks of a heavy Bombing Campaign and a full blockade on the tiny enclave home to over 2 million people. As a retaliation for hamas attack earlier this month that killed 1400 israelis. Well, the head of the united nafions well, the head of the United Nations says hes deeply concerned about what he called clear violations of International Law taking place International Law taking place in gaza. In gaza. Their economy is stifled , their People Economy is stifled, their people displaced and their homes demolished. Their hopes for a demolished. Their hopes for a political solution to their plight have been vanishing. But plight have been vanishing. But the grievances of the Palestinian People cannot justify the appalling attacks by hamas and those appalling attacks cannot justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian People. Palestinian people. Well, overnight, israel has continued its heavy bombing of gaza with local officials saying that 5800 people have been killed since the 7th of october. The ministry of health in gaza has said that at least 704 people have died in the past day, a figure that the Un Relief Agency says is the highest fatality toll reported in a single day in gaza since the october 7th attacks. Well, the Associated Press has reported on families being crushed in the rubble of residential buildings. The un says over a third of gazas 3005. Hospitals are now closed after being hit in airstrikes or starved of fuel. Starved of fuel. Meanwhile, hamas continue to fire rockets into Central Israel. Yesterdays barrage marks a spike in the groups attacks , with it being described attacks, with it being described as the single largest attack since the war began on five israelis were wounded in that massive rocket attack yesterday. Warning sirens leading over a million israelis to head to shelters. Shelters. Well, as you know, more than 1400 israelis were killed in the attacks earlier this month by hamas gunmen who raided border communities and targeted civilians. Well, gb news is civilians. Well, gb news is security editor. Mark white is security editor. Mark white is in tel aviv above the site of one of the latest israeli airstrike strikes in Southern Gaza. We feel that that we see that the trucks have come in so far are just a trickle in the face of the immense needs of people on the strip. Across the gaza skyline. Strip. Across the gaza skyline. There are regular explosions often Israeli Forces responding to the latest launch of hamas rockets. Sira ion sounded across tel aviv as the countrys iron dome Missile Defence system intercepted dozens of rockets. Now some northeast of tel aviv, one rocket made it through those defences and badly damaged the building. It came on the day israel was celebrating a small piece of good news in this conflict with the release of these two elderly hostages is 85 year old yakov said she was determined to help the Israeli Military by telling them as much as she can about her ordeal. Already at this early stage, the israeli authorities have been given valuable insight into what happened to these two hostages on october the 7th, theyll be speaking to both women in the coming days to try to gain a greater understanding of the conditions they were held in after his meeting with israeli leaders, the french president , Emmanuel Macron, met the palestine Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, determined to focus minds on a more positive future after this conflict. But future after this conflict. But for those burying their dead in israel and in gaza, any talk of peace must be the very last thing on their minds. Mark white gb news, tel aviv. Gb news, tel aviv. Well, lets get the latest now live from mark white in tel aviv. Good morning to you, mark. And lets start, shall we, with those comments from the un secretary general at the un saying that conflict with hamas didnt happen in in a vacuum. Well, that is sparked fury, hasnt it, in israel right across israel, real deep anger at what Antonio Gutierrez said dunng at what Antonio Gutierrez said during that Security Council meeting yesterday, saying that , meeting yesterday, saying that, as you said, the attacks of the 7th of october did not happen or occurin 7th of october did not happen or occur in a vacuum that the Palestinian People had suffered 56 years of a suffocating occupation where their lands had been steadily devoured by settlements and they had suffered violence as now israels foreign minister, the ambassador to the un, have said that he just does not reflect in what he says. What he says. The reality in the region. Hes theyve been calling for him to resign because of these comments. Other officials are saying that Antonio Gutierrez is no longer welcome in israel after those remarks and the un secretary generals call for an immediate ceasefire on humanitarian grounds has been rejected by israel. They say rejected by israel. They say they will continue their unrelenting campaign to try to dismantle , degrade, destroy dismantle, degrade, destroy hamas. And weve seen more in the way of raids overnight, strikes on gaza , but also strikes on gaza, but also strikes on gaza, but also strikes on gaza, but also strikes on the west bank and in northern israel on hezbollah positions. We should say as well that there was one incident yesterday evening where nine Hamas Terrorists had tried to infill Great Northern israel from the sea. Most of them , we from the sea. Most of them, we believe, were killed. There was a search for someone who was still missing and outstanding, still missing and outstanding, still outstanding last night. But that particular incident, the israeli say, shows that hamas still has a capability to try to launch attacks into israel. And they have got, as a israel. And they have got, as a result, to continue with their air campaign to try to take out hamas in that sense. Mark, do you think the un is out of step with the rest of certainly the western International Community . We. International community . We. Well i think certainly very publicly , the international publicly, the International Community, the vast majority of the International Community are showing support and sympathy for what israel suffered on the 7th of october. And also supporting israels right to defend itself and to go after hamas to take out hamas, to degrade hamas. I guess the to degrade hamas. I guess the question is really what happens after that aim is achieved . And to that end , we saw the french to that end, we saw the french president , to that end, we saw the french president , emmanuel to that end, we saw the french president , Emmanuel Macron, president , Emmanuel Macron, going to the west bank yesterday to speak to the Palestinian Authority president , to speak to the Palestinian Authority president , Mahmoud Abbas , to talk about what the abbas, to talk about what the potential solutions were further down the road, about the possibility , i guess, of the possibility, i guess, of the Palestinian Authority taking over control of gaza if and when israel manages to destroy hamas. Israel manages to destroy hamas. Mark wyatt, thank you so much for that update there in tel aviv. Well, of course, families across israel and indeed the world continuing to wait for news of missing loved ones, feared either dead or kidnapped by hamas during that attack on october the 7th. Yes, this is orit mayor in israel receiving confirmation that her 21 year old son is alive after receiving video footage of him. But that video footage of him. But that video also confirmed he is being held captive by hamas. Held captive by hamas. When i saw the video clip , i when i saw the video clip, i saw his face. He covered himself. But he was looking frightened , frightened. And it frightened, frightened. And it was very hard for me to see him like this because its not its not my son. You know, my son is happy guy not my son. You know, my son is happy guy. All the time. Smile and we laugh together and hes full of he has lots of friends. And suddenly to see him in a situation hes alone by himself. Situation hes alone by himself. Well, lets talk to former british Army Spokesman major mike shearer here in the studio. Good to see you this morning. Morning, major. What what what is the military perspective on all of this . Because what im intrigued by is we see a lot of the political side. We see a lot of the humanitarian side. Do we need to actually take a military view of what is going on to put it in perspective . Well i think so. I mean, this is a military situation now as of the 7th of october, when the terrorists invaded israel and in inflicted terrible casualties on them. And i think the un secretary general has been suckered really in to misrepresenting the facts, which is reprehensibly, liable for such a figure to be doing that. The truth is that israel has stated its aim throughout this conflict from the seventh, and it is to get rid of hamas , get it is to get rid of hamas, get rid of them and to change the status quo in the gaza strip by the means that are available to them on the ground. And as a them on the ground. And as a result of that, every strike that they will make as a modern, sophisticated military will have been tempered against International Law. And that is to say that any anticipated Collateral Damage will have been measured against the military objective. And it has to be proportional. Objective. And it has to be proportional. And given what proportional. And given what their objective is, i think you would have to agree that it has been major. Weve been talking about a Ground Invasion now for several days and it hasnt taken place as of yet. Do you think there can be a success, a successful military operation when it comes to retrieving hostages safely and getting rid of hamas . I mean, you talk about israels aims there, that that is their aims there, that that is their aims to do both of those things. But can they be successful full in those aims, especially when were talking about hamas, which is ideology we actually is an ideology we actually rather than just a terrorist group , and also that so many of group, and also that so many of the key players arent even in gaza, theyre elsewhere the gaza, theyre elsewhere in the middle east. Of them are in middle east. Many of them are in qatar. There are a number there are there are a number of the first thing of issues there. The first thing is, quite right, you is, youre quite right, you cannot kill an ideology with a bullet. But you can stop a. Bullet. But you can stop a. Current not tension, but invasion on your people. You can you can arrest that fairly quickly. War does not come without its risks. Does that put without its risks. Does that put the hostages at risk . Of course it does. But the uncomfortable it does. But the uncomfortable truth is the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, and the overall all Strategic Military objective of is to clear out hamas. And then they can look beyond that. And discuss how can they settle the situation in gaza and beyond. Situation in gaza and beyond. You mentioned earlier Collateral Damage. Its an awful phrase , lets be honest. Its phrase, lets be honest. Its about its about civilians dying. There seems to be a sense now and im not trying to justify this either way , for anyone who this either way, for anyone who wants to get angry at me, but there seems to be a sense that there seems to be a sense that there must be no Collateral Damage in war. But thats just not the reality, is it . War is not a risk free endeavour , im afraid. And there endeavour, im afraid. And there will. There will be tears and bloodshed. Blood and treasure bloodshed. Blood and treasure will will be ceded on both sides. But i think what needs to happen, not likely to, but what needs to happen is hamas need to put their weapons down and publicly state that let the hostages go and then in proper dialogue and communicate can start. Yeah, but on the basis that that is almost impossible goal to achieve isnt it . Because i mean were talking about a group which is embedded within civilians using civilians as human shields. Theyre putting rocket launchers next to hospitals and kindergartens and all this sort of thing. So all this sort of thing. So theyre not going to walk away from this. So at what point does from this. So at what point does a response become, um, non proportionate from israel . They proportionate from israel . They cant they cant obliterate the gaza strip providing they work within International Law and all everything that ive seen suggests that they are because of their militia. Of their militia. Three strategic objective of is proportional to doing what they need to do. That comes with bloodshed. That is the uncomfortable reality of war. Whos to blame for that is that puts you on the spot. But is that hamass fault in the sense that whatever the background to this whatever, as gutierrez is talking about, the 58 years of occupation, thats whatever all that is, hamas launched this massacre in israel. Do they need to hold responsibility then for what happens to gaza and civilians . 100. They absolutely do. And i think were there has been masses of misrepresentation. Indeed disinformation. It is a cheap propaganda ploy to simply say that there are loads of dead civilians, that was always going to be the case. That is true, but it still sits within the framework of International Law when it comes to war. What they measure, what they then go on and do, is measured against the crude body count of israelis, against palestinians. And im afraid to the untrained eye, thats a very simple equation to understand. But that does not understand. But that does not set out the bar of acceptance within International Law when it comes to war. Okay, major mark, shira, thank you very much. We both want to thank you for that because its fascinating to get that. Its a slightly colder view, isnt it . If you dont mind me but thats what mind me saying. But thats what the thats what militaries have to do, isnt it . Take a colder, broader view. What military people its what the military people its military on its what the military do on behalf people. Yeah behalf of their people. Yeah thanks very much indeed, mike. Now, lets a look at now, lets take a look at some stories coming into now, lets take a look at sorr newsroomyries coming into now, lets take a look at sorr newsroom now. oming into the newsroom now. The government pressing ahead with a decision to scrap the cap on bankers bonuses. Current rules limit most bonuses to twice annual salary for employees of banks and building societies. But financial regulators say the move will make the uk a more attractive Financial Hub post brexit. Mps will vote today on whether to suspend wellingborough mp peter bone after he was found to have committed bullying and Sexual Misconduct against a staff member. An independent panel recommended he be suspended for six weeks, which if it happened, could result in a recall petition by constituents. Four british astronauts could take part in the first all uk mission to space after the Uk Space Agency teamed up with an american company. My voice is going. This one ive called it, ive called it off paul coyte. Oh dean called it off paul coyte. Oh dear. Thats what it is. Have a have a sip of your tea. Theyre going to keep his distance now. Do you want me to . Yes, please. You enjoy your. On you go. Now the government are reducing their reliance on Hotels Channel migrants hotels to house channel migrants currently £8 million currently costs them £8 million a the immigration minister a day. The immigration minister says be reduced says numbers will be reduced within. Within months. But the walthamstow mp, Stella Creasy, says refugees in her constituency have already been told to vacate their hotels as only a weeks notice. She says the governments policy is leaving many Asylum Seekers on the streets, but there are rumours that the government are putting the focus on cutting hotels in key battleground seats. So is this the case . Lets ask our Political Correspondent olivia utley. Good morning to you, olivia. Very good to see you, olivia. Very good to see you. Are we being very cynical here to see that these hotels, some of them at least, are in marginal tory seats as. Some of them at least, are in marginal tory seats as. Well . Marginal tory seats as. Well . There possibly is something a little bit cynical about it. When pushed yesterday, the government actually refused to give the first 100 give a list of the first 100 hotels that it plans to close down migrants, which will down for migrants, which will happen between now and next march. Rumour has it march. But the rumour has it that at least one of them is going to be in stoke, which is a key marginal battleground for the conservatives. And there are the conservatives. And there are others in some of those wall others in some of those red wall seats the north of the seats in the north of the country, which the conservatives are really, really keen to hold on to at the next election. That said, this isnt all just cynical electioneering. We can tell that from scale the tell that from the scale of the operation. There are currently operation. There are currently 400 odd and the government again is a little bit cagey about the exact numbers, but there are about hotels up and down the about 400 hotels up and down the country being used to country that are being used to house about 50,000 migrants. Robert jenrick, the immigration minister, said yesterday that between now and the between january and march, he planned to close around 50 of those. And between march and june, he planned to close another 50. Now he says that is going to be possible because there are there are fewer migrants coming over the channel this year than last yean the channel this year than last year. Were expecting to see 15,000 fewer migrants come over in 2023 compared to 2022. And also because the government has implemented this policy of enforcing migrants to share Hotel Bedrooms , which obviously Hotel Bedrooms, which obviously means they can cut down a little bit on the number. He also made the point that in the from january this year, in january this year, 400 asylum applications were being processed per week. That figure is now up to 4500, which obviously means that there is a little bit more leeway for the government. So, yes, there is a bit of cynical engineering, perhaps going on from the government here, but it is a pretty big breakthrough and will probably go down very well in those marginal seats as theyre clearly hoping. What are we to make then of what Stella Creasy is saying . I mean, shes effectively saying for the labour party, look, are just being look, people are just being turfed onto the streets. Turfed out onto the streets. Well , Robert Robert jenrick, well, Robert Robert jenrick, the immigration minister, has been very clear that that well, he says that wont be the case. He says that the reason they are able to be closing these hotels now is because of a number of Government Policies which are sort paying because sort of paying off and because were fewer migrants were getting fewer migrants over now , theres a over the channel now, theres a debate over whether thats thanks governments thanks to the governments initiatives or simply thanks to a in wind direction and a change in wind direction and more weather than we more difficult weather than we had in 2022. But itll be interesting to see what happens when these hotels do start closing, because its not going to happen until january , to happen until january, according to the government. Its not clear where Stella Creasy is getting her information exactly. But once they start closing in january , they start closing in january, itll be really interesting. And perhaps concerning to see what happens to the migrants who were staying in those hotels. A side point the government is choosing to close the most Luxury Hotels first. So there has been lots and lots of pushback from constituents in areas where four and five star hotels with spars, etcetera, are being used to house migrants. So its those hotels which the government will be focusing on first. I mean, its hard to believe, isnt it, really, olivia, when you talk like that, that migrants are ever being housed in four and five star hotels with with spa access and also having for themselves and having rooms for themselves and not being asked to, to room with other asylum and other Asylum Seekers. And i suppose the problem for the government now is if youre not going use hotels and that is going to use hotels and that is going to use hotels and that is going to use hotels and that is going to welcomed by many, going to be welcomed by many, then what can you use . Because weve raf bases being weve seen raf bases being suggested and then weve seen protests, havent we, from local communities using those raf bases . And then of course the bibby stockholm home, which has had its own set of dramas as well. Exactly. That is the problem for the government. What on earth do you do with the migrants who still need to be housed . Every, every suggestion is met with huge amounts of local protest. When these raf local protest. When these raf bases, the raf scampton, for example, was first suggested, the case ended up in the Supreme Court with locals, including conservative councillors, fighting the government, saying that the local constituents did not want to have, you know, in some cases up to 500, usually young male migrants, young single male migrants wandering around their communities. Then of course there are the barges like the bibby stockholm. But as weve seen, those are beset with issues of their own. On the bibby stockholm that legionnaires bacteria emerge, meaning that at the very last minute migrants had to be evacuated off the premises. So there is no simple answer for there is no simple answer for the government on what to do with these migrants. And the number is still pretty high. Rishi sunak said that he was going to eradicate rate the backlog of migrants waiting for their asylum claims to be processed by the end of this yean processed by the end of this year. Well, he hasnt done a bad job at beginning of the job at the beginning of the yean job at the beginning of the year, were 92,000 migrants year, there were 92,000 migrants awaiting in. There awaiting application in. There are now 55,000 odd, but 55,000 migrants still are awaiting for their claims to be processed. Thats hardly eradicating the backlog. Backlog. No, indeed. Olivia thanks very much indeed. Very much indeed. Now, still to come, as the Sentencing Council is examining whether pregnancy should be a stronger reason not to send a female offender to jail , well female offender to jail, well be asking, how have we gone soft on sentencing . Youll have a on sentencing . Youll have a thought on that. Thats now n ext next now , boxing has always been now, boxing has always been a sport associated with getting young people off the streets and as anti social behaviour offences do continue to grow as a problem for the police and local councils, could Something Like boxing be part of the solution . Solution . Well, our north west of england reporter sophie reaper visited a boxing gym in kirkham in lancashire to find out about a new initiative that could help to tackle this issue. To tackle this issue. At this local boxing gym in kirkham, lancashire. The gloves kirkham, lancashire. The gloves are well and truly on in response to concerns over youth anti social behaviour, a new initiative is encouraging young people to get into the ring instead , i was exactly as they instead, i was exactly as they are. Adam little grew up in kirkham. He used boxing as an outlet eventually becoming a professional. Now he owns his own gym and wants to give back to his local community. You find a lot about who you are in these four walls and sometimes thats all i need. For sometimes thats all i need. For us. We are allowing them to gain control of their thoughts. So what you have to always realise is consequence. So actions have consequence is humans are allowed to make mistakes. But if allowed to make mistakes. But if you have to learn from them, othennise youre just going to continue to make that same mistake. And we think its a worthwhile investment from the town council to sponsor and support initiative in full. Support this initiative in full. And as part of operation centurion Lancashire Police has been given £2 million of government funding in order to crack down on antisocial behaviour in the county. It gives us more money to put those extra resources and those extra visible resources on the streets which people like to see because its that little bit of reassurance. And this is the sort of thing that builds the bndges sort of thing that builds the bridges between us, the community and more importantly, the to the kids. Were trying to give you diversionary so you that diversionary thing so you that diversionary thing so you about going you dont think about going around bored, causing around getting bored, causing the people the problems, giving people abuse, damage and abuse, causing the damage and all the level that all the low level things that really the community really impact all the community on level moving fonnard. This initiative to this initiative hopes to reduce the level of antisocial behaviour in the area, ensuring that ultimately the young people of kirkham are learning to box clever sophie reaper gb news well, it is good of course, to see that boxing helps young people. It gives them something to do , gives them a focus and a physical focus and a mental focus that can be really positive, especially because we are hearing about antisocial behaviour being on the rise. But the other side of this is do we need to get a little bit tougher when were dealing with crime . Weve seen recently the Sentencing Council consider whether women should be whether pregnant women should be allowed spared jail. Allowed to be spared jail. So were asking today, have we gone soft on sentencing . We gone soft on sentencing . So joining us now to debate this question is etiquette expert brewer and founder of expert liz brewer and founder of Oasis Charitable trust, steve chalke. Good morning to you chalke. Good morning to you both. Thank you very much for joining us. And liz, lets start with you, shall we . Do you think weve gone soft on sentencing and dealing with crime . I dont and dealing with crime . I dont know that weve gone soft on it, but maybe were going about it the wrong way. The wrong way. After all, if a woman is in jail, shes there for a reason. And in which case you know, she she has to be looked after if shes pregnant. And that has to shes pregnant. And that has to be considered station. But listening to, you know, what you just said about young people and taking up boxing, i think with all young people , girls and all young people, girls and boys, etcetera , they need to boys, etcetera, they need to have some sort of purpose if theyre trying to if youre trying to direct them away from crime. And i feel some things crime. And i feel some things gone wrong within our prison system and maybe we and if we are on overload, maybe Community Service has got to be considered something where theyre actually sort of realising that theyre in jail for a reason. But at the in jail for a reason. But at the same time its a punishment, you know , you still got to know, you still got to understand that if somebody is in prison, theyre there for a reason and weve got to make certain that they , when they certain that they, when they come out , that hopefully not come out, that hopefully not only are they going to go straight, but that have the need to go straight and actually change, change, change their whole way of behaving thing. There is, steve, a lot of arguments. We hear , i mean, arguments. We hear, i mean, everywhere, dont you people say , you know, you need to lock them up, throw away the key. You need be a lot, lot tougher. Need to be a lot, lot tougher. People are getting an easy ride when theyre sent to prison. Fact is that we well, the fact is that we tried being tough on crime and weve tried tougher on weve tried being tougher on crime been tried being crime and weve been tried being tougher than that. But the reality is that we have the worst criminal across worst criminal records across a developed europe. We build more prisons. We have longer sentences, but we have the highest reoffending rate in europe. Its extraordinary. We europe. Its extraordinary. We are only outgunned in that by america and its an appalling record. So we need a fresh approach. And with that, i agree. First of all, we need to think a lot more about prevention. And thats why its been great to watch that film about boxing. But we need to ask, why are all the systems failing housing, education, social care, Mental Health, etcetera, etcetera . Because i remember talking to Robert Buckland a year ago or so when he was still the secretary of state for justice, and he was still the secretary of state forjustice, and he said he was still the secretary of state for justice, and he said , state for justice, and he said, justice sits at the end of a failing system. All the systems failing system. All the systems fail and then we dump people in pnson fail and then we dump people in prison who are neurodiverse, whove been trauma tized, who have histories of where theyve been neglected, theyve seen violence, theyve known violence. And then if we just punish them for five years, six years, eight years, and then set them free, well what difference is that going to make . You cant that going to make . You cant heal somebody by hurting them. We need a different way. We need a different way. Liz, what do you make of that, perhaps taking more holistic approach at this, looking at other systems before we get the Justice System . We get to the Justice System . Yeah. Well, it has to be they have to be re educated. I mean, if youre in jail , youre there if youre in jail, youre there for a reason. And somehow or for a reason. And somehow or other you have to turn their direction from crime into doing something worthwhile. And in prison, i mean, from what i understand and i dont know the true facts, but i gather there are various educational processes that they can join and get involved with, whether they do or not, i dont know. But maybe it should be compulsory at the same time because were overcrowding. And i think thats because population has gone up tremendously , not just with the tremendously, not just with the fact that weve got a lot of migrants coming into the country, but numbers have gone up and we do need to build more jails, but we need to build them in in more with a more modern approach of how to actually teach these the people in jail how to go fonnard and how to have a worthwhile life. Now, have a worthwhile life. Now, whether we should start considering far more Community Service and im a great believer in that. But whether they could in that. But whether they could actually go out supervised and, you know, scrub off graffiti from walls, but actually do something he made to work and realise , i mean, going to jail realise, i mean, going to jail isntjust realise, i mean, going to jail isnt just a realise, i mean, going to jail isntjust a period realise, i mean, going to jail isnt just a period of time where youre going to get, you know, three meals a day and a roof over your head. It has to be a form of punishment. And they need to realise that. But also they need to feel worthwhile. Worthwhile. Okay. Just very briefly , okay. Just very briefly, steve, because we are out of time , how do you balance all time, how do you balance all this . A lot of people must say yes, a more holistic view, a heaung yes, a more holistic view, a healing view, trying to heal damaged people. But how do you how do you balance that with the needs and the suffering of a victim . Victim . Absolutely part of im absolutely part of a heaung im absolutely part of a healing is always to confront the wrong that youve done the crime, that youve committed. But unless we go down a healing route, so society never becomes safer to leave people rotting in a jail. For. However many years, and then to release them once theyre institutionalised back into society. Thats asking for into society. Thats asking for trouble. So even if we dont trouble. So even if we dont care about the therapeutic journey of these people, we should care about our economy enough to choose a more sensible way. Weve just got to have some way. Weve just got to have some fresh thinking. Okay , steve chalke, liz okay, steve chalke, liz brewer, thank you very, very much for joining brewer, thank you very, very much forjoining us this morning i keep your thoughts through on that one as well. Isnt that another yean chances . Isnt that another year, another autobiography . Ive found myself never ending . It is never quite tired of it. Im just dreading when youre one comes out. Oh, well, there you go. Oh, well, there you go. Manchester chapter. Yeah, man. United man united versus copenhagen. Great win for Manchester United. They needed that the champions that win in the Champions League, also a very league, but also a very important night for them because of late of course, honouring the late great sir Bobby Charlton. There we are. Theres scenes from old trafford last night and it was perfectly done. The minutes silence perfectly executed by everybody there, including the copenhagen fans. As youd expect, brought out by the piper there. Thats erik ten hag in there. Thats erik ten hag in the middle with with the wreath that was laid in the middle. There was also a wreath on on sir bobbys seat which was also nice the young fella on the left hand side, his is dan gore. Hand side, his name is dan gore. Now hes one of the youth team players. The old and the players. So its the old and the young far right hand young and on the far right hand side, its perfectly done. And on the hand side , thats on the right hand side, thats the legend the Manchester United legend alex stepney. There is on the right, legendary goalkeeper from alex stepney. There is on the righ60s gendary goalkeeper from alex stepney. There is on the righ60s andiary goalkeeper from alex stepney. There is on the righ60s and 70s goalkeeper from alex stepney. There is on the righ60s and 70s thatkeeper from alex stepney. There is on the righ60s and 70s that one er from alex stepney. There is on the righ60s and 70s that one of from alex stepney. There is on the righ60s and 70s that one of the] the 60s and 70s that one of the one of the older players thats still around and played alongside sir bobby so minutes silence round of applause as well. And therell be more tributes, i should think, around the premier league at the weekend. Yeah an excellent game, really respectfully. Dan yeah. Dan yeah. And also it perfect and also it was perfect because was people like harry because it was people like Harry Maguire, now Harry Maguire was assigned from leicester , went to assigned from leicester, went to Manchester United for a huge amount and it just hasnt worked out for him and, and hes been dropped and hes lost his cat lost the captaincy and he scored the winning and turned the winning goal and hes turned everything around. As far as his career Manchester United career at Manchester United goes. Really pleased for him. Goes. So really pleased for him. And also onana, the and also andre onana, the goalkeeper , saved penalty in goalkeeper, saved a penalty in the so it was the 97th minute. So it was a very good game, very exciting , very good game, very exciting, everything very well observed and a lovely tribute to sir Bobby Charlton as well. Lovely. Yeah. Paul its a brief one. It but well have a bit it is, but well have a bit longer next time. Ive wasted my time with b ritta ny. Brittany. Havent you never wasted . Havent you never wasted . If you, if you mentioned in a biog youve got to go. Okay. Lot more to come up okay. A lot more to come up with an hour. Oh lovely. With that in an hour. Oh lovely. A thank you. Im a lot more. Thank you. Im talking about the rugby, steven. Smashing. Thank you. Oh, smashing. Thank you. Oh, smashing. Thank you. To come, were right. Still to come, were going be talking to, would going to be talking to, would you ladies and you believe it . Ladies and gentlemen, goddess gentlemen, the Green Goddess herself, moran is going to herself, diana moran is going to be in the studio to show us just how 22 minutes of exercise a day can get you fit. Thats all to come welcome back. Its 746. Youre watching breakfast with steven and ellie. Were going through todays headlines and the headline makers today are Political Editor of the huffpost, Kevin Schofield and former editor of the daily star, dawn dawn neesom. Very good to see both this morning. And see you both this morning. And dawn, got to start here. Dawn, weve got to start here. I think its really shocking footage. The second video that footage. The second video that ive seen at least of women , ive seen at least of women, would you believe, tearing down posters of missing israeli children. Its not the first time weve seen it and its happening pretty much all over the world. This footage, as you can see now, shows two very young women and a very young man in Leicester Square last night, tearing down the posters of the missing people in the hostages that were taken from israel into gaza, smiling away. He was , wasnt he . He was, wasnt he . He was, wasnt he . For some reason, he seems to find it funny. I the for some reason, he seems to find it funny. I the reason find it funny. I the reason i wanted to talk about this one is because they are, as youve just seen there, ellie, they are incredibly, what, 16, 17, 18. These girls, they are incredibly young women and theyre taking down posters of young women that were kidnapped from the Dance Festival and the kibbutzs similar age to them. And we all know what happens to young women in war situations is its not. Its not nice. So how young women can be so it regardless of the politics thats going on, so inhumane to tear down these posters. I cant comprehend it as it woman i cant comprehend. But ill tell you what the young people particularly tend to see things in black and white. Its them and us, is it . Which of course is just so not the reality. No, no. And they wouldnt have children of their own either. So they wouldnt know what it must be like of any idea of what it must be like for your children to in that situation. When i see young people, especially women , dawn pulling when i see young people, especthese omen , dawn pulling when i see young people, especthese posters dawn pulling when i see young people, especthese posters ,iawn pulling when i see young people, especthese posters , second lling down these posters, second video, like i said, that weve seen , just makes you think, seen, just makes you think, where is humanity . I mean, where is your humanity . I mean, aside the politics, you aside from the politics, you just would see a missing person, a missing baby, missing woman. Doesnt who they are. You doesnt matter who they are. You you would think you would see the Human Element of all of this , which is a person who is missing, who is going through. You an ordeal all in you can imagine an ordeal all in gaza and instead youve got people ripping it down. Its just its callous, it . Just its callous, isnt it . Well, no , i was just going to well, no, i was just going to say, therell never be peace until like that start until people like that start saying looking at this and saying looking at this and saying , thats terrible. Saying, thats terrible. These people being kidnapped is terrible. Is terrible. This is the problem. And as you say, this is so incredibly divisive. And, you know, obviously there are centuries of history gone into this particular conflict. But it it is like youre right, stephen, you cant see how its ever going to be solved when people are so, so, so angry that theyre seeing beyond the humanity that is involved in this on both sides. Its not even a political thing. Yeah, i just think the young women in particular, its heartbreaking. Okay, kevin, lets lets have a look at this public artwork, should we . Because we all like a bit of public artwork, dont we . I rant about this stuff all the time. Yeah. Yeah. Waste of money. But this is highlighting plastic waste. Weve got some pictures of it to show you. This will there we go. Show you. This will there we go. What on earth is it . Oh, dear. Its a pile of plastic waste, basically. So its to. Yeah. Highlight the impact of litter and obviously why its such a bad thing. But its not. Well, i was going to say its not pleasant to look at, which is the whole point. Obviously its not supposed to be good to look at because its meant to make people think twice about littering that littering and the damage that were the environment. Were doing to the environment. However, standardly, however, under standardly, i think living locally who think People Living locally who have artwork in their have this artwork in their Communities Just think its an eyesore. I mean, why would you even call it an art . And they dont want it . Well, art is in the eye of the beholder, isnt it . Its art to some, one person could be ugly to someone else. But if its saying isnt it awful to have litter on the streets, then you put something up which is basically litter on the street. Yeah. Yeah. Havent people been and havent people been adding as maybe adding to it as well . Maybe a confused message . Adding to it as well . Maybe a confused that sage . Adding to it as well . Maybe a confused that isge . Adding to it as well . Maybe a confused that is the point, is well, that is the point, is that some people are saying it could encourage people that some people are saying it co litter, encourage people that some people are saying it co litter, which encourage people that some people are saying it co litter, which obviously people that some people are saying it co litter, which obviously iszople to litter, which obviously is not the intention. Well i dont see you couldnt throw a bag see how you couldnt throw a bag of that on the of crisps next to that on the floor and say, look, this is its performance art, darling. Its a its a fresh its fresh its a its a fresh its a fresh installation. Yeah so, yeah, its , its caused a bit of a its, its caused a bit of a debate, shall we say. Someones been paid for that. Someones been paid for that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, theres a lot of work going into it to be fair. Yeah, well, i mean, i haventjust chucked it together. You can tell. Just empty recycling bin out in middle. In the middle. Went. And i went. And i went. I went see tracey emins bed. Oh yeah , i know the bed. Yeah oh yeah, i know the bed. Yeah oh yeah, i know the bed. Yeah someone dragged me along. Donkeys years ago and its just a dirty bed. The thing is, its like, what if i add that my mother would have killed me . Have killed me . Theres a story linked to that that we could go into, but im not going to. But actually, Tracey Ullman is actually a very, very good artist. Do you think she is a brilliant artist . She perfectly. The she can draw perfectly. The thing she. Yeah, she can. Thing is, she. Yeah, she can. Yeah. There were sketches all around outside of the around the outside of the bed that shed done a pencil at around the outside of the bed that sia d done a pencil at around the outside of the bed that sia toddler a pencil at around the outside of the bed that sia toddler could| pencil at around the outside of the bed that sia toddler could have il at around the outside of the bed that sia toddler could have done which a toddler could have done if she, if she can draw brilliantly. Wondered well see it. Well lets see it. Well lets see it. She can and i dont know well she can and i dont know if we saw the same exhibition, but shes very good at but shes also very good at embroidery that is embroidery and that is particularly well, particularly impressive. Well, thatd see. Thatd be lovely to see. Mean, maybe you two should i mean, maybe you two should go have a little art day, go along, have a little art day, a culture out. Oh, im not. A culture day out. Oh, im not. Would be good tv programme. It would be a good tv. You need be won with you. Need to be won over with you. Well, would be. Im not well, it would be. Im not helping. I am not an arty person. I would watch that. No. Well should we go from art music . Caught art to music . This ones caught my this morning. Music that my eye this morning. Music that makes heart ache may ease makes your heart ache may ease physical. Physical pain. Kevin yeah. So theres a study done which basically shown the human response or the physical response to listening to, to music. So what they did was they inflicted a mild pain on the people taking part. It was like a its a burn, like a hot tea, a hot tea, nothing more i its not they werent electrocuting you. So it was painful, but not, you know, screaming with agony. And then they play music. So they ask people what their Favourite Music was and they played and they asked played the music and they asked them. Then assess how much them. Then to assess how much pain felt after heard pain they felt after they heard the music did help the music and the music did help distract them or it made the pain lessened. But what they pain lessened. But what they particularly found was that move or bittersweet music , kind of or bittersweet music, kind of sad songs actually were the most effective painkillers. Effective painkillers. I can relate to that. Yeah like, yeah, if youre just having even if youre just having even if youre just having a bit of a bad day, i think belting out adele or something a bit sad just makes you better. Its cathartic. You feel better. Its cathartic. No adele makes theres no time. Adele makes me in any way, shape me feel better in any way, shape or form. Really . Sorry. I know. Im sorry. Its not. Its just not. Looking me like not. Stop looking at me like that, you always this that, steve. You always do this whenever that, steve. You always do this wh well, that, steve. You always do this wh well, you do come out with well, you do come out with some things. Its just not. Thats controversial. Thats controversial. Its not my era. Nothing against adele. Just not my era. So theyve got some suggestions here. Theres ed suggestions here. Theres an ed sheeran. Perfect it apparently is a good one for relieving pain i now hes pulling the face. Ellie costello. Ed wouldnt do it for cab for cutie. Not a bad band. Death cab for cutie. There are band cab that are popular combo. Why not that popular . But they were popular . But they were reasonably popular. Popular . But they were reasonably popular. Theres popular . But they were reasonably popular. Theres a tchaikovsky, um , piece as well tchaikovsky, um, piece as well that gets mentioned a bit. Deacon blue how about that . Deacon blue how about that . Deacon blue how about that . I mean. Deacon blue, which was by labi siffre so. Oh, was was by labi siffre so. Oh, was it . Yeah. Oh no. It . Yeah. Oh no. Labi siffre i could go with. Im not a fan of madness. There you go. After our culture trip, well have to go and see madness. Yeah. All right. There. Yeah. All right. There. Youre on your program in this one, right . Thank you. Thank you. Too, kevin. Dawn. Im stephen im ellie Stephen Dixon. Im Ellie Costello this is breakfast costello and this is breakfast on. Gb news. Well, gazas health on. Gb news. Well, Gazas Health Ministry says hospitals and medical facilities in the strip have completely collapsed as the United Nations says its humanitarian efforts are now in jeopardy with gaza having less than 24 hours of fuel left. Than 24 hours of fuel left. Well, it follows more than two weeks of a heavy Bombing Campaign and a full blockade on the tiny enclave home to over 2 million people, as a retaliation for hamas attacks earlier this month that killed 1400 israelis. Well, the head of the un says hes deeply concerned about what hes deeply concerned about what hes called clear violations of International Law taking place International Law taking place in gaza. In gaza. It is important to also recognise the attacks by hamas did not happen in a vacuum. The Palestinian People have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation. They suffocating occupation. They have seen their land steadily devoured by settlements and plagued by violence. Their plagued by violence. Their economy stifled , their People Economy stifled, their people displaced and their homes demolished. Their hopes for a political solution to their plight have been vanishing. But plight have been vanishing. But the grievances of the Palestinian People cannot justify the appalling attacks by hamas and those appalling attacks cannot justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian People. Well well, Palestinian People. Well well, overnight, israel has continued heavy bombing of gaza with local officials saying 5800 people have been killed since the beginning of october. The ministry of health in gaza has said 704 people died in the last day. Thats a figure the last day. Thats a figure the Un Relief Agency says is the highest fatality toll reported in a single day in gaza since october the seventh. Well, the Associated Press has reported on families being crushed in the rubble of residential buildings. The un says over a third of gazas 35 hospitals have closed , died hospitals have closed, died after being hit in airstrikes or starved of fuel. Well meanwhile, hamas continues to fire rockets into Central Israel , and into Central Israel, and yesterdays barrage marks a spike in the group attacks described as the single largest attack since the war began in, well, five israelis were wounded in the massive rocket attack yesterday afternoon with warnings sirens leading a million israelis to head to shelters as more than 1400 israelis as weve been telling you, were killed in those attacks earlier this month by hamas gunmen. It was a massacre of innocents. They raided border innocents. They raided border communities and targeted civilians. Our security editor, civilians. Our security editor, mark white, is in tel aviv above the site of one of the latest israeli airstrikes in Southern Gaza. Rescuers frantically digging through the rubble for survivors , as israel says it doesnt deliberately target civilians and blames hamas for its cynical use of civilian areas to place its rocket launchers and command and control bunkers. But the and control bunkers. But the resulting Collateral Damage is significant with its clear, huge loss of life aid supplies here are vital. But the united nafions here are vital. But the United Nations says the trickle of trucks crossing the egyptian border is nowhere near enough. While the situation remains extremely dire , we call for an extremely dire, we call for an unimpeded and continuous flow of humanitarian assistance and medical assistance to continue coming into gaza. We feel that coming into gaza. We feel that we see that the trucks have come in so far are just a trickle in the face of the immense needs of people on the strip. Across the people on the strip. Across the gaza skyline. There are regular explosions of charleton Israeli Forces responding to the latest launch of hamas rockets and despite the huge escalation in israels aerial attacks , there appears to aerial attacks, there appears to be no shortage in hamass deadly arsenal. Yesterday afternoon , arsenal. Yesterday afternoon, Central Israel suffered its largest barrage of hamas rockets since the attacks. Of october since the attacks. Of october 7th. Sira ions sounded across tel aviv as the countrys iron dome Missile Defence system intercepted dozens of rockets coming northeast of tel aviv. One rocket made it through those defences and badly damaged a building. It came on the day israel was celebrating a small piece of good news in this conflict. With the release of conflict. With the release of these two elderly hostages is 85 year old yakov said she was determined to help the Israeli Military by telling them as much as she can about her ordeal. As she can about her ordeal. Already, at this early stage , already, at this early stage, the israeli authorities have been given valuable insight into what happened to these two hostages. On october the seventh. Theyll be speaking to both women in the coming days to try to gain a greater understanding of the conditions they were held in after his meeting with israeli leaders, the french president , Emmanuel Macron , met the palestinian macron, met the Palestinian Authority president , Mahmoud Abbas , determined to focus minds abbas, determined to focus minds on a more positive future after this conflict. But for those this conflict. But for those burying their dead in israel and in gaza , any talk of peace must in gaza, any talk of peace must be the very last thing on their minds. As mark white, gb news minds. As mark white, gb news tel aviv. Tel aviv. Well, in the past hour, syria has said that eight of its soldiers have been killed in an israeli air attack. The idf, the israeli air attack. The idf, the israeli air attack. The idf, the Israeli Defence force , has Israeli Defence force, has confirmed those strikes. Confirmed those strikes. Israel has regularly been bombing military targets in syria for many years now. But the latest strikes are, it says, in response to rocket fire from syrian territory. Syrian territory. And this is while hezbollah reports that its leader has met with top leaders of hamas and other militant factions, apparent , the shia group apparent, the shia group effectively runs part of the lebanese government and military and of course, is an ally of syria. And iran. Well, lets get the latest now live from mark white in tel aviv. And mark, that breaking news in the past few moments that the leader of hezbollah has met with the Islamic Jihad chief and hamas leaders. Yes. And on an ominous development, i think with hassan nasrallah, the head of hezbollah, meeting those leaders of hamas and also Islamic Jihad , of hamas and also Islamic Jihad, to discuss what al manar tv, hezbollah controlled tv says is an axis of resistance that it involves. According to al manar tv, iran, syria to the palestinian militant groups and hezbollah. Lane now, that will, hezbollah. Lane now, that will, of course , come as no surprise of course, come as no surprise to israel. Theyve been involved in targeting hezbollah terrorists for more than a couple of weeks now, really since the october 7th attacks. Hezbollah has been firing across the border into northern israel and anti tank missiles and other munitions. And israel has been responding by taking out hezbollah cells there. But hezbollah cells there. But overnight, an indication of the potential for wider spread here with, again, israel targeting syria, taking out, with, again, israel targeting syria, taking out , they said, syria, taking out, they said, army positions and launchers responsible for firing rockets into israel during yesterday. Now, syria has confirmed just within the last hour that eight of its soldiers were killed , of its soldiers were killed, seven others have been injured. Seven others have been injured. So all the while, potential for escalation here, as israel says , escalation here, as israel says, there will be no ceasefire in gaza. It is to going continue with its operation to degrade, dismantle and destroy hamas. Dismantle and destroy hamas. Mark, its interesting. Theyre calling themselves the sort of circle of resistance in in all of this. I mean, its an interesting rhetoric, isnt it . I mean, clearly, all this is part of the propaganda war thats going along, going along side everything else. Side everything else. Yes, its propaganda. And of yes, its propaganda. And of course, they dont need to do in terms of hezbollah need to actually come into the war in a really meaningful way to cause really meaningful way to cause real impact and to divert very significant resources to northern israel. Weve seen just northern israel. Weve seen just with the sporadic pockets of fire coming from southern lebanon in the past couple of weeks , that in response, israel weeks, that in response, israel has ordered the evacuation down of dozens of communities along that border with southern lebanon and its had to put tens of thousands of troops up into that area , as well as, of that area, as well as, of course, conducting missile strikes fast jet strikes and firing artillery into southern lebanon. So even just these sporadic attacks , it does tie up sporadic attacks, it does tie up a significant amount of military resource forces. As far as israel is concerned. And. Israel is concerned. And. Okay, mark, thanks very much indeed. Well of course, families across israel and indeed across the world are continuing to wait for news of missing loved ones, feared dead or kidnapped by hamas during that attack on october. The seventh. This is orit mayer in israel receiving confirmation that a 21 year old son is alive. She got footage of him. But that video did confirm hes being held captive by hamas i when i saw the video clip , i when i saw the video clip, i saw his face. He covered himself, but he was looking frightened , frightened. And it frightened, frightened. And it was very hard for me to see him like this because its not its not my son. You know, my son is happy guy not my son. You know, my son is happy guy. All the time. Smile and we laugh together and hes full of we have lots of friends. Full of we have lots of friends. And suddenly to see him in a situation hes alone by himself. Situation hes alone by himself. Well , elie situation hes alone by himself. Well, elie has more now on the hamas hostage crisis. Thank stephen. Well, there are now more hopes that more hostages will be released by hamas and to avoid that full blown invasion of gaza by israel oil well, its estimated that there are about 200 people that have been kidnapped by hamas, including many children among those missing are foreign nationals , missing are foreign nationals, those from across the world, including at least five brits fans. But the israeli authorities warn that some of those missing may be among the dead and they have yet to be identified. Well, among the youngest missing is nine month old kfir and three year old ariel, and theyre pictured here along with their mother, shiri , along with their mother, shiri, and their father, yarden well, here in the uk , relatives of here in the uk, relatives of those missing have been making heartbreaking appeals for their release. Release. Now, yesterday they were talking about freeing some hostages , as its really hostages, as its really confusing. Its like a psychology torture for us. The families here in the release in this one or this one, we want them, all of them back. And we want all of them back now, together , i we tell my brother together, i we tell my brother and his family how much i love them. I always knew how much he them. I always knew how much he loved me. I never knew how much i loved him. I loved him. Okay. Much more on that coming up in the meantime, the court of appeal has been told the decision to revoke the so called isis brides , shamima so called isis brides, Shamima Begum of her british citizenship was unlawful and the 24 year old was unlawful and the 24 year old was a teenager when she travelled to syria in 2015 and was later deemed a risk to National Security. Now her lawyers say the home office failed to consider legal duties owed to miss begum as a potential victim of trafficking or as a result of state failures. In her case. The hearing, which started yesterday, is now on day two of three and is due to conclude tomorrow. Well, lets get the latest from lisa hartle, whos outside the royal courts of justice for us. Morning lisa. Hello. Yes, well, this is the hello. Yes, well, this is the second time that Shamima Begum has tried to get that decision to strip her of her british citizenship overturned. Citizenship overturned. Yesterday, we heard from the court, heard from her lawyers who said that the decision to do that by the home office was an unlawful one. And if we just think back to take a look back at what whats happened to shamima since 2015. So in 2015, at 15 years old, she left her home in east london and travelled to syria to join the so called islamic four so called islamic state. Four years was found a years later, she was found in a refugee camp in syria and thats when the sajid javid, the home secretary at the time, stripped her her citizenship on the her of her citizenship on the grounds of National Security. Grounds of National Security. Now, shamima, whos currently living in a refugee camp in northern syria, appealed against that earlier this year, but she lost that appeal and now shes trying again. Jemimas lawyers trying again. Jemimas lawyers are arguing that the home office failed to consider whether she was a victim of trafficking or whether the state had failed her. This is something the home office denies. Pose a National Security risk. Now, today, the Home Office Lawyers will be laying out their arguments, the proceedings are expected last until tomorrow , expected to last until tomorrow, but wont be hearing but we wont be hearing a decision on the appeal until a later date. Later date. Okay, lisa, thank you. Well okay, lisa, thank you. Well one man who knows Shamima Begum better than most is filmmaker andrew drury, who over the years has become close with the 24 year old and brought her story of being an isis bride to the world. And im very pleased to say he joins us in the studio this morning. Very good to see you. Good morning, andrew. So as we say, know, Shamima Begum say, you know, Shamima Begum better. Youve met better than most. Youve met with 6 or times, havent with her 6 or 7 times, havent you, the years. Whats your you, over the years. Whats your opinion as a person . Opinion on on her as a person . It changed from the beginning because we were filming out in syria, so i spent a lot of time in raqqa. When i first met her, i felt sorry for her and she was very apologetic. She said, sorry loads of what youve loads of times. What youve done, during my time over loads of times. What youve don next during my time over loads of times. What youve don next 2 2ing my time over loads of times. What youve don next 2 2 and fly time over loads of times. What youve don next 2 2 and a time over loads of times. What youve don next 2 2 and a halfe over loads of times. What youve don next 2 2 and a half years, the next 2 2 and a half years, she changed. It seemed that shed we use the word shed been we use the word groomed, but somebody was schooling so she schooling her inside, so she changed being this person changed from being this person that apologetic for what she that was apologetic for what she had done. Shed understand that shed bad shed done something really bad to became to somebody. That became a victim of over a period. So victim all of over a period. So and then shed become from this victim to this angry victim. I victim to this angry victim. I witnessed her having tantrums and loads of other bits and pieces. And as i say, i changed my mind by several things. She said and done. So i didnt go there with any political opinion because we were filming. So it was of a document diary. So was part of a document diary. So my opinion was formed by actually getting to know her and getting deep inside her head. So all this stuff that we hear about is she putting on an act . Is she putting on a front . Yeah, of course. Yeah. She is like i said, from victims. And i think people have to understand and people dont think victims. We say think of the victims. We say radicalised. Was radicalised. We say she was groomed. Dont think she was groomed. I dont think she was groomed. I dont think she was groomed. Dont think she was groomed. I dont think she was radicalised. I think she wanted to people mistake she to go. People mistake that she was she was was 15 when she was an intelligent they she intelligent girl. They said she was or groomed was radicalised or groomed online. I dont think so. Neither because much neither because theres so much we. We live in a world we. I mean, we live in a world where we can see what isis done. She she wanted. She she got what she wanted. She wanted go and get married out wanted to go and get married out there. And she said a there. And she said she was in a happy marriage well out happy marriage as well out there. That changed during there. And that changed during my her right. My meetings with her right. What mean by that . What do you mean by that . What do you mean by that . Well, when i first met her, she said i asked her was she in love with her husband . And she said him very much. Said she loved him very much. And showed me pictures and she showed me pictures that she a happy marriage. And she had of a happy marriage. And then i watched documentary at then i watched a documentary at last year, i didnt really last year, which i didnt really enjoy much, but because enjoy very much, but because i saw that and she saw the lies in that and she said she was a victim of said she was then a victim of a husband mental abuse. But that wasnt thing she told wasnt the first thing she told me. She changes stories me. So she changes her stories as along. As she goes along. What i find quite remarkable, just just reading what i find quite remarkable, justjust reading about what i find quite remarkable, just just reading about your your time with her is she told your time with her is she told you that the death of her three children in no longer makes her sad and that shed managed to move on . Isnt that shocking . I dont think i think that to me describes everything about her. Shes able to everything shes able to shut everything out. Shes shes able to shut everything out. Shes able to change. She got angry with me last time i was there because i didnt bring a book for her, which was guatanamo bay diaries, because she wanted to build this victim personality that book, she personality from that book, she was using a kind of a manual. So yeah, no, she is she is really a mixed up girl. And like to say to you , people say, is she to you, people say, is she dangerous . Let me explain to you how dangerous she could be. Im still in contact with the prison with prisoner there. With another prisoner in there. And they are now isis. They all got mobile phones in the prison. The girls have got them. And at the moment, theyre having marriages to high ranking isis. I dont know generals or whatever you want to call them. So were not sure that so were not even sure that shamima still not in contact shamima is still not in contact with no one knows that with isis. No one knows that because these phones have been sneaked in. She was texting me for close to a year and for probably close to a year and a half on a moving story. For probably close to a year and a half on a moving story. So, a half on a moving story. So, yeah, she could be dangerous. She could be talking to isis as we speak now , she has that we speak now, she has that capability because other women in that camp are so that that might answer your danger question. Can we be sure . I mean. Question. Can we be sure . I mean , problem. , this is the problem. Whether , as you say, its whether, as you say, does she pose a threat to the uk or is she just someone who, in effect wants to be in some sort of weird way celebrity . Of weird way celebrity . She does want to be a celebrity. See the celebrity. You can see the picture she for some are picture she poses for some are sickening because youve got to remember she is remember she is isis. She is what was a member what she was a member of somebody that, a group somebody that, you know, a group that bombed manchester arena. She was part of we seem to she was part of that. We seem to sort just have this we sort of just have this we describe as this kind of radicalised, poor, groomed girl. Shes not i know her. Ive been with her. People cant argue that. Do you think she is creating a westernised character based on what you say . Because its even striking looking at the pictures of there how much her of her. There how much her appearance has changed. No appearance has changed. Shes no longer the hijab longer wearing the hijab in photos shes in a photos with you. Shes in a snapback cap and shes pouting. Snapback cap and shes pouting. Yeah, of course, she pounced at all the photographs. And there think it was there was this i think it was im not too sure in the telegraph something. There telegraph or something. There was like a vogue telegraph or something. There was style like a vogue telegraph or something. There was style picture, e a vogue telegraph or something. There was style picture, whichygue telegraph or something. There was style picture, which is1e type style picture, which is sickening. I think weve done sickening. I think weve done that. And i know the comments after this is why do we bring it to the forefront . She to the forefront . Well, she bnngs to the forefront . Well, she brings herself to the forefront. Shes thats shes the person thats appealing and i think appealing again. And i think people confused about people are confused about the appeal that means she appeal as well. That means she might a citizenship might get a citizenship back. I tell she come back tell you, she wont come back because shell face the because i think shell face the courts in syria and she could do a 20 year sentence anyway. All right. Okay. Andrew drury, really good to see you. I mean, its fascinating to get that sort of insight with someone whos spent time her and quite a lot of time with her and quite a lot of time with her and quite a lot of time with her and quite a lot of time with her. Thanks very much indeed. Thank time with her. Thanks very much indeed. Thank you. Thank much. Now now, thank you very much. Now now, imagine your imagine returning to your flooded business try flooded home or business to try and you can and assess and save what you can and assess the damage, only be told more the damage, only to be told more heavy rain and flooding is on its way. Stuff of nightmares, isnt it . Well, that is the reality. Sadly, for thousands of families this week, especially across the midlands yorkshire , because midlands and yorkshire, because a yellow alert is still in place. Well our reporter anna riley has been out talking to flood victims and she joins us now from the flooded village of catcliffe, near rotherham. Good morning to you, anna. And whats the situation there . And whats the situation there . Good morning. Yes, well, people are still reeling from the devastation that storm babet caused here in catcliffe. Caused here in catcliffe. Residents of 250 homes were evacuated and due to the river rother bursting its banks with that heavy rainfall that we got over the weekend, you may be able to see behind me the clean up effort is still ongoing here. Peoples homes have been stripped of their possessions. Stripped of their possessions. You can see behind me, theres a childs cot. Theres peoples ovens, theres peoples fridges. Ovens, theres peoples fridges. The complete bottom floor of peoples homes has just been completely devastated by the flooding. You can see that the flooding. You can see that the flood waters has gone up more than half way above peoples doors and lower windows of their homes. So many people have been evacuated to hotels. Thats where theyre living at the moment in temporary accommodation at the nearby Memorial Hall in the village, theres been a Donation Centre set up so people can go and get warm clothing and supplies and hot meals as well. So the community has really come together in this horrific flooding thats decimated their homes, but theyve also got a lot of questions for the authorities as well. Back in two thousand and seven, this village was heavily flooded and they were told that flood warnings and better alerts would be put in place and that better defences would be put in place as well. So this wouldnt happen again. But it has for people that have insurance, they say to me that they still will be waiting at least 12 months before their homes can be repaired and they can move back in. Others cant afford insurance , and many are worrying insurance, and many are worrying about if this happens again, will they be able to sell their homes in the future here . Okay, anna, thanks very much indeed. Okay, anna, thanks very much indeed. Of course, it all indeed. Of course, it all depends on what is going to come in the coming days and weeks, doesnt it . Youd like a bit of that, wouldnt you . Like a bit of that . Like a bit of that . I wish id read that. I wish id read that. I wish id read that. I think you read it last time. You were fine. I did. Time. You were fine. I did. I enjoyed it very much. Paul coyte is here. Good morning. You read . I thought it was all at the top of your head. Yeah. Yeah, thats not how you work. Yeah, that was good. Natural over Manchester United. Copenhagen. The yes. Beat copenhagen. The danish unluckily. Vista. Danish side unluckily. Vista. Copenhagen what . Unskilled vista eager a dividend. Venena whats that mean . Thats danish for. Sorry, i didnt know that was your girlfriend. Its the only danish. How about. Its the only danish. How about. Its the only early danish. Two things ive never had the chance to use, but there we are. I thought id use that for you. Why did you learn it . I have. Why did you learn it . I have. Well, thats another story altogether. So so. So anyway, copenhagen lost to Manchester United last night and man united, of course, it was a lovely tribute to sir bobby. But the actual team is a really, really important win for them in the Champions League and also for Harry Maguire as well. Harry maguire much derided harry there. He is. Hes had a bit of a tough time. He had the captaincy taken off him. Hes now dropped to down fifth place or he had in the starting or he had been in the starting une up or he had been in the starting line up as far as the defenders, they wanted to get rid of him, but hes but stuck around and hes playing well. Scored the playing very well. Scored the winning goal. So its all a lovely its a lovely. It is a lovely story. Should we talk a bit of rugby . Lets talk a bit of yeah, lets talk a bit of rugby. This is. This is an interesting one. Are they interesting one. What are they doing . Theres been talk doing . Theyre theres been talk about this for quite some time. That that that world rugby announced that theres be a new theres going to be a new national championship. In november, its going be another one of its going to be another one of those did the those like they did with the nafions those like they did with the nations league. But i cant really see why exactly they need to do this when they have the world cup. So theyll have the world cup, but also all the world countries will compete in this tournament as well this biennial tournament as well. Well, theres the biennial. Well, theres the biennial. So you go very american when you say that. Do i really biennial . I think its im thinking its because im thinking biennial. Biennial. Bicentennial that in 1976, bicentennial that might be. I know. I know. Maybe thats how you say what it is. Maybe thats within it. Maybe thats within it. I like a biennial. I like a biennial. Do you like do you like bayern . B ayern . Bayern . Dragged on this year. As far as rugby is concerned, how many great great teams are there . 24 . I dont think so. But there . 24 . I dont think so. But its all about money. Its all about getting more. It always is , isnt it . Oh, it always is, isnt it . Always to money. And always comes down to money. And should we have a word on bill kenwri ght . Yes. Kenwright . Yes. Sad news. Well, became a household name because of that green leotard and telling millions of bbc breakfast tv viewers the only breakfast tv around in the day in the 1980s to wake up and shape up. Lets have a look at her in action. Oh, golly. Oh, golly. Cold. Its dark. Its a bit cold. Its dark. Its a bit miserable. But come on, britain, wake up , miserable. Make yourselves feel comfortable. Put your papers down and your pipes and your umbrellas. And lets all of us get fit. Us get fit. I call this the monkey. One, i call this the monkey. One, 2 1, 2 1, 2 1. Oh, diana, talk about looking back. Yeah, ill tell you what. Ill tell you what i think is fascinating with that, though, is that the may well have been people going, oh, it doesnt really work. It doesnt really help. Heres proof help. Well, heres proof positive. A long positive. I mean, its a long time ago and youre still looking fit as a fiddle. I was just oh, goodness. I was just saying, was 1982, 83, 82, 83. Saying, it was 1982, 83, 82, 83. And that was on waterloo station. And that was the first time you saw me in action. Was it really . And it was one hell of a surprise. And in that thin leotard and tights on a cold february morning at six in the morning and bare feet , well, you morning and bare feet, well, you look absolutely things have changed and you still look absolutely incredible. Now youre very kind. Thank you. You motivated stacey. What keeps me motivated . What keeps me motivated . Really . Family friends. Things keep me motivated. But what keep me motivated. But what keeps me well is being active and active in my body, but also in my mind as well. Im 84 now and, you know, i think i can keep up with most of the younger people pretty well. Most of the time. But were thinking of fitness in particular activity. I dispensed with the word exercise just at the minute and im just going to say lets keep active and what were recommended is about half an hour a day, 22 minutes, to be absolutely precise. Its a day absolutely precise. Its a day of activity. Of activity. Obe, which isnt that much is it . Because it isnt talking about going for a walk. And i guess you dont you dont have to be really giving it that all the way round. No. Youre a woman , dont no. If youre a woman, dont take a handbag with you. Thats the number one thing. Have a bag around your perhaps, but around your body, perhaps, but so arms are free. So that your arms are free. Okay. You dont have to do all of this, but you do need to keep your arms free so that. Do you your arms free so that. Do you know what fitness , what know what fitness, what exercise, what activity it does, it improves the three ss. Come on. Whos going to tell me the three ss . The improvements. Asleep. Well, thats one i hadnt thought of, but probably thats number four. I like to do. Yeah. I like to do. Yeah. What are the three ss . So the three ss . Well, first of all, youve got strength. Youve got stamina , suppleness. I mean , got stamina, suppleness. I mean, suppleness. God. And getting it wrong. And then stamina, which is your heart and lung card vascular system. Those are the three immediate benefits from being active , not sitting down being active, not sitting down on the sofa all the time. Hes interesting, though, isnt it . Because we are. Its isnt it . Because we are. Its one of those things and, you know, time itself very much into this is that when you when you are younger, you think, i can always put it off . Yes but but its it is it too if youre older and not that fit or dont have the stamina or the strength is it too late to do much about it . Its never too late to do something about it. But of course, exactly as youve just said, if its been your lifestyle for all those years, then youre going to reap the benefits as you get older. I mean, even if you have to go in for an operation or something, if basically youre fit, you know, youve got a lot of the three things weve just talked about. Three things weve just talked about. Chances are youre three things weve just talked about. Chances are youre going to recover from operations and illness far , far more quickly. Illness far, far more quickly. And whats so great about this is everyone can implement this is everyone can implement this in their lives, cant they, just 22 minutes. Thats not even an episode on netflix. Its about 150 minutes week. Now, what are we talking about . Were not talking about getting the clothes on, going jogging, definitely, you know, going to the gym and pumping iron. Were not talking about that because thats very off putting for a lot of people. It is. It really, really is. We can wear ordinary clothes were wear ordinary clothes as were doing here. Oh, you are going to work out with me, arent you . We are. We are. Oh, thank heavens for that. But so youve just got to be more active. Take the dog for a walk. Take yourself for a walk. Go for a walk with friends. And go for a walk with friends. And then thats socially and mentally keeping you active, as well as keeping your body active. Climb the stairs. Yeah dont live in a bungalow. Dont live in a bungalow. Kevin what do you make of it all . As someone who will be reporting all this back to your mother . Well, yeah, i see my mothers already texted to say that she used to do all the keeping up with you back in the day when you were. With you back in the day when youoh,e. With you back in the day when youoh, good for your mum. Oh, good for your mum. Oh, good for your mum. Is well . Is she well . Is she well . She is well, yes. Honestly, it did her good. I mean, youre putting me to shame, to be honest with you. I dont do enough thing like dont do enough any thing like enough exercise. Well, get enough exercise. Well, we do get tied in. Tied up, especially in. Well our, our type of well i mean, our, our type of work is, is very similar to a lot of people nowadays who are office bound in early and office bound and in early and out and all rest of it. Office bound and in early and out its and all rest of it. Office bound and in early and out its hard all rest of it. Office bound and in early and out its hard tol rest of it. Office bound and in early and out its hard to do rest of it. Office bound and in early and out its hard to do nowst of it. Office bound and in early and out its hard to do now ifof it. Office bound and in early and out its hard to do now if you. Its hard to do now if you are office bound, if you sit at are office bound, if you sit at a computer. If you get these habits in now, we will all ultimately live longer, happier lives. Absolutely. And it isnt as if we can keep ourselves away from certain illnesses and conditions as you probably know, when i was what, 47, i had breast cancer, both breasts removed and, you know, huge things like that happen. But i remember the surgeon at the Royal Marsden hospital saying to me, diana, youre very fit chances are youre going to come through this. Well, i did. Mark white has the ceasefire. Mark white has the latest in tel aviv. Latest in tel aviv. Well, terror groups in lebanon have been meeting to discuss an axis of resistance against israel as more rockets come into israel this morning. Come into israel this morning. Keep your views coming in to us. Vaiews gbnews. Com. Now we are, believe it or not, entering day 19 of what has been the latest escalation in the Israeli Palestinian conflict. And eyes, of course are now on the wider region as syria says eight of its soldiers have been killed in an israeli air attack. The idf, the israeli attack. The idf, the Israeli Defence force, confirming those strikes as well. Israel has regularly been bombing military targets in syria for many years now, but the latest strikes are, it says , the latest strikes are, it says, in response to rocket fire from syrian territory. Well, this is while hezbollah is reporting that its leader has met with top leaders of palestinian militant factions as well. The powerful shia group effectively runs part of the lebanese government and military and is an ally of syria. And iran. Gazas Health Ministry to bnng Gazas Health Ministry to bring an update on whats happening on the gaza strip says hospitals and medical facilities have now complete collapsed. The United Nations says humanitarian efforts are in jeopardy with gaza having less than 24 hours of fuel left. Well, it follows more than two weeks of a heavy Bombing Campaign and a full blockade on the tiny enclave home to 2 million people, as a retaliation for hamas attacks earlier this month that killed 1400 israelis as well. As well. All this is whats caused controversy overnight. The head of the United Nations says hes deeply concerned about what hes calling clear violations of International Law, taking place International Law, taking place in gaza. In gaza. It is important to also recognise the attacks by hamas did not happen in a vacuum. The did not happen in a vacuum. The Palestinian People have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation. They suffocating occupation. They have seen their land steadily devoured by settlements and plagued by violence. There the economy is stifled. Their people displaced and their homes demolished. Well, overnight, israels continued its heavy, heavy bombing of gaza with local officials saying 5800 people have been killed since october the 7th. The ministry of health in gaza says 700, 704 people died in the last day. The Un Relief Agency says thats the highest fatality toll in a single day since october the seventh. Well, the Associated Press has reported on families being crushed in the rubble of residential buildings. The un says over a third of gazas 35 hospitals have closed after being hit in airstrikes or starved of fuel. Well well, meanwhile, hamas continuing to fire rockets into israel yesterday. Yesterday. Todays huge barrage marks a spike in the groups attacks described as the single largest attack since the war began. Attack since the war began. Five israelis were wounded in the massive rocket attack yesterday afternoon with warning sirens leading over a million israelis to head to shelters. Israelis to head to shelters. And it is worth reminding you once again that 1400 israelis were massacred in attacks earlier this month by those hamas gunmen who raided border communities and targeted civilians. Our security editor, mark white, is in tel aviv above the site of one of the latest israeli airstrikes in Southern Gaza right. Gaza right. Rescuers frantically digging through the rubble for survivors. Israel says it doesnt deliberately target civilians and blames hamas for its cynical use of civilian areas to place its rocket launchers and command and control bunkers. But the and control bunkers. But the resulting Collateral Damage is significant with its clear, huge loss of life aid supplies here are vital. But the united here are vital. But the united nafions here are vital. But the United Nations says the trickle of trucks crossing the egyptian border is nowhere near enough. While the situation remains extremely dire, we call for an unimpeded and continuous flow of humanitarian assistance and medical assistance to continue coming into gaza. Coming into gaza. We feel that that we see that the trucks have come in so far are just a trickle in the face of the immense needs of people on the strip. Across the gaza on the strip. Across the gaza skyline , there are regular skyline, there are regular explosions. Explosions. Often Israeli Forces responding to the latest launch of hamas rockets and despite the huge escalation in israels aerial attacks , there appears to aerial attacks, there appears to be no shortage in hamass deadly arsenal. Yesterday afternoon , arsenal. Yesterday afternoon, Central Israel suffered its largest barrage of hamas rockets since the attacks of october 7th. Side an sounded across tel aviv as the countrys iron dome Missile Defence system intercepted dozens of rockets. Intercepted dozens of rockets. Somebody in northeast of tel aviv, one rocket made it through those defences and badly damaged a building. It came on the day israel was celebrating a small piece of good news in this conflict. With the release of conflict. With the release of these two elderly hostages is 85 year old yakov. She said she was year old yakov. She said she was determined to help the Israeli Military by telling them as much as she can about her ordeal. As she can about her ordeal. Already at this early stage , the already at this early stage, the israeli authorities have been given valuable insight into what happened to these two hostages. On october the seventh. Theyll be speaking to both women in the coming days to try to gain a greater understanding of the conditions they were held in after his meeting with israeli leaders, the french president , Emmanuel Macron , met the Emmanuel Macron, met the Palestinian Authority president , Mahmoud Abbas , determined to Mahmoud Abbas, determined to focus minds on a more positive future after this conflict. But future after this conflict. But for those burying their dead in israel and in gaza , any talk of israel and in gaza, any talk of peace must be the very last thing on their minds. Peace must be the very last thing on their minds. As mark thing on their minds. As mark white, gb news, tel aviv. White, gb news, tel aviv. Lets get the latest now live from mark white in tel aviv. Good morning to you, mark. And lets reflect that Big Development in the past hour or so, confirmation that the leader of hezbollah has met with the Islamic Jihad chief and also hamas leaders. Hamas leaders. Yes, indeed. Hassan nasrallah meeting the leaders of hamas and also the palestinian Islamic Jihad, the second largest terror group in gaza. They are discussing or were discussing a resistance of an axis of resistance of an axis of resistance , they said, with a resistance, they said, with a view to trying to determine the best way to secure victory in gaza. Its got to be of concern. The al manar tv station, which is run by hezbollah, had said that other parties involved in this resistance, axis included iran and syria. And in syria , iran and syria. And in syria, overnight confirmation from the syrian authorities that eight syrian authorities that eight syrian soldiers and seven other syrian soldiers and seven other syrian troops were struck by israeli airstrikes. Eight of israeli airstrikes. Eight of them died, seven of them were injured. Now, israel has injured. Now, israel has confirmed these airstrikes, said that that was in response to rocket fire coming from southwestern syria into israel. Those rockets landed in open space and caused no injuries. But in response , israel launched but in response, israel launched those air strikes. And in addition to that, in the north of israel over that border into southern lebanon, hezbollah terror groups continuing to fire anti tank missiles and other musicians, munitions towards north southern israel. Five terrorist cells, according to israel, were taken out yesterday. And just this morning they have struck another cell in southern lebanon that they say was planning to fire anti tank missiles over the border. So missiles over the border. So real concern about the potential for an escalation in this conflict. Mark look, i mean, youve been across all of this sort of stuff for decades as as we know. Whats your sense on on what the International Community can do about all of this and how concerned, you know, the Prime Minister will be . The foreign secretary will be in our country, never mind everywhere else in the world, because, yes, theyre showing support to israel. Yes, they want all this hostility to cease one way or another. But the growing tension across the wider middle east is concern cause for concern for all of us, isnt it . Yes , a huge concern , yes, a huge concern, particularly amongst western powers , about the potential for powers, about the potential for a widening regional conflict. Thats why youve seen in the us, for instance, sending two Carrier Strike groups into the Eastern Mediterranean in the royal navy, sending ships into that area as well as other nafions that area as well as other nations also sending their ships as a show of support for israel as a show of support for israel as a show of support for israel as a warning to the likes of iran. Not to get involved in any meaningful way into this conflict. I meaningful way into this conflict. I mean, i say that iran already dodi is involved because its iranian proxies that are prosecuting this war against israel at the moment. And real anger here, i think in israel as well with these comments from the United Nations secretary general last night, talking about about this war not happening or the attack on the 7th of october, not happening in a vacuum. And talking about the a vacuum. And talking about the 56 years of a suffocating occupation of palestinians by israel calls for Antonio Guterres to resign. Hes been guterres to resign. Hes been told by israeli politicians he is no longer welcome in this country. Country. And mark, looking at the front of the newspapers here in london, in the studio this morning, most of them dominated by an image of one of the hostages, is released by her captors by hamas. And she shook their hand and said the word shalom. Thats what most of the papers are leading with this morning. This will give fresh hope, wont it, to too many families who have got loved ones who are being held hostage in gaza. But there will be also aware as well how long this is all going to take back. Yeah all going to take back. Yeah theres been quite a lot of commentary here in israel as well about that handshake with hamas by yocheved. Hamas by yocheved. I dont think anyone really blames her for that. I think she would do anything just to get away from those hamas gunmen and safely over that border there. But youre right in terms of a glimmer of hope about the release of hostages , but also release of hostages, but also some concern from israeli officials, but that all hamas is really doing here is just drip feeding those hostages out to persuade shown any ground war into israel because they know now while there is hundreds of hostages still in captivity and with the potential for those hostages to be harmed, there will be very Significant International pressure on israel to give as much time as possible to give as much time as possible to the negotiations and not go in with a full Ground Invasion. In with a full Ground Invasion. Okay, mark, thanks very much indeed. Well , of course, families well, of course, families across israel and the world are still waiting for news of missing loved ones because they wont know at this stage. A lot of them dont know if they were killed or kidnapped by hamas on october the 7th. Well, this is orit meir in israel , whos orit meir in israel, whos receiving confirmation that her 21 year old son is alive after receiving footage of him. Receiving footage of him. But that video also confirming that he is being held captive by hamas. When i saw the video clip, i saw his face. He covered himself. But he was looking frightened , frightened. And it frightened, frightened. And it was very hard for me to see him like this because its not its not my son. You know, my son is happy guy all the time smiling. And we laugh together and hes full of he has lots of friends. Full of he has lots of friends. And suddenly to see him in a situation hes alone by himself. Situation hes alone by himself. Its heartbreaking. But it is its heartbreaking. But it is also a tactic. And that has to also a tactic. And that has to be remembered that the release of information like that to prove that people are still alive, to try and use that to get these individuals and parents like orit to say , well, parents like orit to say, well, you cant move in because what about my son . What will happen to my son . As it is all tactics, all i mean, its part of its part of war tactics. And when we were talking to a major who was a spokesman for the british army earlier on saying, well, yes, but in war and what they will think is , is the needs of the think is, is the needs of the many that is the israeli people outweigh the needs of the few which are the hostages. And which are the hostages. And thats thats hugely difficult, isnt it . Its quite cold. And but thats how war works. Yes. But thats how war works. Yes. So thats thats what israel what the war cabinet, what the idf will have to be weighing up now , theres a reminder of the now, theres a reminder of the human cost , now, theres a reminder of the human cost, isnt it . You cant even imagine the mothers pain can you know, well, do stay with us. Still to come, were going to be speaking to minister for immigration, robert jenrick. Thats. N ext next welcome back. Now, the home office is planning to stop using 50 asylum hotels by the end of january. Its hoped that ending the use of these hotels will help to cut costs for taxpayers. Yes, well , how is it all yes, well, how is it all going to work . Lets talk to immigration minister robert jenrick, who joins us now. Very good to see you this morning. The big question has got to be, if were if were closing down these migrants, 5050 these hotels to migrants, 5050 before january, then another 50 coming straight after that , coming straight after that, where do these people go. Where do these people go. Well, good morning. When i took this job a year ago, i said that it was completely unacceptable to be housing Asylum Seekers, Illegal Migrants in hotels. We want them to be used by businesses, tourists. You or i, for weddings or birthdays. Not Illegal Migrants birthdays. Not Illegal Migrants at huge cost to the taxpayer. At huge cost to the taxpayer. Weve worked hard over the last year to put in place simpler , year to put in place simpler, more appropriate forms of accommodation like disused military sites and barges. And military sites and barges. And its to that kind of accommodation that the Illegal Migrants will now be moved. And so we can close the first 50. And i hope if we can keep making progress with stopping the boats , there will be more closures to come the months ahead. Come in the months ahead. The timing of this is very interesting jenrick were interesting. Mr jenrick were about year out from general about a year out from a general election. Of course, were not election. Of course, were not sure of the exact date of that, but is it cynical to note that its believed that these hotels , its believed that these hotels, some of them at least, are going to be stopped being used in tory seats, marginal tory seats such as stoke and red wall seats where im sure youll be hoping to pick up votes in the next general election in. Well , i could not have been well, i could not have been clearer from the minute i took this job that using asylum hotels was wrong and i wanted to end it. So weve been working end it. So weve been working extremely hard to reach that point. We are there now and well be closing them as fast as well be closing them as fast as we possibly can. And we want to close all hotels regardless of where they are and return them to their proper use by local communities. The hotels that were closing in this first set are in all four nations of the uk and a whole range of different places. But the key thing is that its not right that that the british taxpayer is paying for Illegal Migrants to be living in these comparatively luxurious locations. We want people to be locations. We want people to be in decent but not luxurious accommodation. Thats what weve accommodation. Thats what weve managed to do and also as a result of the work that weve done internationally , we have done internationally, we have now succeeded in beginning to stop the boats from coming. And so theres been a significant fall this year , over a fifth. Fall this year, over a fifth. And i want to see that continue because of course thats not job done. Far from it. Weve got to stop the boats in their entirety. But as a result of fewer people coming than last year, were in a position to start closing the hotels. Closing the hotels. And can we talk about the middle east . Because obviously the uk has been backing israel in this. Weve been very clear about what we feel about that attack on october the 7th, that massacre by hamas and yet the un secretary general, Antonio Guterres, saying israel is breaking International Law in its response. What does the uk government think . Government think . Well, i thought the secretary general comments were wrong. They were unacceptable and they were undiplomatic. He implied that there was a justification for what happened to israel two weeks ago. There is no justification for murderous , barbaric terrorist murderous, barbaric terrorist attacks on innocent civilians , attacks on innocent civilians, children being killed , burnt, children being killed, burnt, kidnapped. You know, nobody kidnapped. You know, nobody knows. We should be trying to knows. We should be trying to make a justification action for that. Mr jeremy, the uk has been very clear that its not asking for a ceasefire. The australians, though , are asking australians, though, are asking this morning for a humanitarian pause to allow aid into gaza. Weve just been hearing from our correspondent on the ground and in tel aviv , speaking about 5800 in tel aviv, speaking about 5800 people, all reportedly killed in gaza. Now a third of hospitals have run out of fuel there. Would you welcome a humanitarian pause. Well, were not asking for a ceasefire. A ceasefire will only benefit hamas. Israel has to have the right to defend itself and to secure its borders and get those hostages out. But we get those hostages out. But we are looking for ways to get more humanitarian aid into gaza. Weve increased the amount of uk support by a further £20 million, announced this week, and were working very closely with egypt in particular to get more trucks of food and medical suppues more trucks of food and medical supplies through the rafah crossing to support people. But its very important that that isnt diverted by hamas and hamas has a history of doing that, misusing aid and in particular fuel for their own devices. There have been reports that theyve done that in the last fortnight.
