[music playing] trey: welcome back to sunday night in america the rate cut finally arrived they/the lending rate by half as percentage point federal reserve jerome powell says the labor market is solid and the rate cut will help maintain the strength, others are not so sure, this is the feds first interestrate cut since march of 2020, struggling americans welcome any relief in borrowing costs for homes, cards and credit cards but prices remain high and most borrowers will not qualify for the lowest rate, joining a senior visiting fellow of economics at the heritage foundation and trump economic advisor stephen moore, welcome what did you think of the rate cut the middle of america with those on fixed incomes even feel it and is there another one yet to come? great to be with you i have a couple of comments number one i think these people like jerome powell and the 350 or 400 ph d economist that they have in the temple of the federal reserve should get out and go to the grocery store and go to the gas pump and pay a mortgage they would see the fight against inflation is hardly over and americans are credibly financially stressed out because of four years of bidenomics which has caused a massive increase in our national debt in many trillions of dollars and higher inflation over the last four years that we've seen anytime since jimmy carter was president, in my opinion there is only two explanations for the wall street journal called jumbo rate cut coming 45 days before the most important election in our lifetime, they're trying, one possibility trying to politically influence the outcome of the election by essentially putting their thumb on the scale in favor of kamala harris by flooding more cheap dollars into the economy right on the eve of an election but there is a second possibility. That is, it is possible that the fed has access to economic data that we as economist have not seen yet and they may be very nervous about this economy headed over a cliff and they might feel they have to bail it out by printing cheap money, neither of those possibilities are very positive for america. Trey: them engine the one positive is a pretty skyhigh stock market. But as you know inflation is up as well, how is someone who is not an economist like me supposed to make sense of the record high stock market which might be good for the future if there is a future but today prices are really, really high, how do i reconcile that. The lower interest rates by the fed are like crack cocaine to stock market investors they love the shortterm effect to lower interest rates because that makes stocks more valuable but is a shortterm effect. The worst stock market since the 1920s was in the 1970s, remember back then we've had runaway inflation in inflation in the medium and long term is the enemy of the stock market. But here is the main point i wanted to get across to your viewers, i think the question that donald trump really has to ask the american people is not even the one ronald reagan asked are you better off for years ago although that's a good question to ask the american people but the other good question do you want four more years of this, do you want the prices to be 25% higher four years from now and the debt to go up by another seven, eight, $9 trillion, do you really want to see gas prices higher than they've ever been, do you want to give up your gas car, do you want to have the left take away your gas stove and possibly your airconditioner, these are the kinds of things the radical agenda kamala harris here's has endorsed she backs off but she seems to change her opinion every three months, that is at stake i will answer the question we cannot possibly afford four more years of this economic catastrophe in the debt bomb. Trey: before i let you go do you have any confidence that congress will ever address the deficit or debt or will it need to be an outside entity that comes up with a plan in congress simply votes yes or no would no amendment. You were there and you are one of the great budget hawks that did everything that you could when you were in congress to bring this down but i think you get donald trump back in office, if that happens god willing i think you will see the economy explode it's going to be like taking a champagne bottle shaking it up and taking that court, i think you see an explosion of economic growth, hiring and better stock market and better numbers on 401k. If you grow the economy faster guess what happened you bring the debt down, growth is the answer and how is kalama harris is going to grow it with a $5 trillion tax increase.
