it's still officially spring but it feels like the middle of summer in a lot of the u.s. and we look at the remarkable advances made possible by the james webb telescope. >> we begin tonight with a border crisis and the latest crisis spread through the u.s. mexico boundary throughout the nation. el salvador immigrant facing rape charges for attack on a mother of five. david spunt starts us off with the details. >> tough story. tonight the suspect is behind bars. according to a local sheriff this sheriff brings the border almost two thousand miles north to maryland. >> 1800 miles from the southern border. and this is the second woman in our county to be killed by an illegal alien. >> the alleged killer of 37 morin a 23-year-old illegal immigrant from el salvador. police say victor antonio hernandez crossed the u.s. mexico border in february of 2023. six months later morin a mother of five was round raped and murdered along this outdoor running trail near baltimore. police say the suspected gang member's alleged crimes are extensive and expansive. weeks before illegally crossing the border. police say he killed a woman in his native el salvador in march 2023, investigators say he was involved in a los angeles home invasion injuring those inside. d.n.a. led the fbi and local police to arrest him in tulsa, oklahoma on friday. for morin's rape and murder last october. >> things seemed like really bleak and hopeless. the lead detective said to me, he said patience will win in the end. >> this tragedy putting increased focus at the southern border where fox news correspondent bill melugin has exclusive data on the border crisis. >> david, illegal immigrants continue spilling across the border here in jacumba. this as fox news has obtained new internal ice days that which shows under biden isis non-detained docket has exploded a 7.4 million cases. more than doubling from trump's time in office. and it's on track to hit 8 million by the end of the year. ice sources tell fox each officer currently has to manage an average of 7,000 cases. an impossible task given their staffing levels. >> back in washington, the white house putting blame on republicans for the border crisis. >> the president has taken this very seriously. he wants to see action. he wants to see a bipartisan legislation move towards that. but, we haven't -- we haven't seen that. >> the suspect in the rachel morin murder is expected to face extradition from oklahoma to maryland to face multiple felony charges. but it could take several weeks. if convicted, he could spend the rest of his life behind bars in jail, mike. >> mike: david spunt starting us off live in studio. thank you very much. the top house republicans in charge of getting g.o.p. members elected met with former president trump in florida. they are trying to strategize a government plan for what they hope to be his return to the oval office. here is senior congressional correspondent chad pergram. >> the presumptive g.o.p. nominee needs help from the hill. if a potential trump presidency 2.0 is to be successful. >> it will not waste a moment. we will be working on a very aggressive agenda to fix all the great problems facing this country right now. >> mr. trump huddled at mar-a-lago with house speaker mike johnson second time in two months days after his summit with house and senate republicans in the shadow of the capitol. >> i think he sees the advantage of unity. >> the former president and congressional republican sharpening their 2025 legislative vision. >> securing the border. >> we got to bring down energy costs. >> the world is a tinder box. >> president making promises. >> on day one of my administration we will begin the largest deportation operation in american history. >> another priority renewing expiring trump era tax cuts. the former president needs congressional republicans to implement the agenda. >> he and i speak frequently about the election cycle, of course, how we can complete the mission of restoring him to the white house and growing the house majority and winning the republican majority in the senate. >> critics claim there is no g.o.p. agenda at all. >> the constitution doesn't matter to them. none of it matters to elm. this the only thing that matters is the pursuit of power. >> with the balance of power up for grabs this november, democrats are banking on tying former president trump to vulnerable republicans. >> republicans continue to show the american people where they really are with maga extremists and not with the majority of america. >> now, former president trump tonight endorsed john maguire for congress. he is running against the head of the freedom caucus. bob good, mr. trump says goode is, quote: bad for virginia. the primary is tomorrow. mike? >> chad pergram live on the hill. chad, thanks very much. let's bring in fox news chief political analyst brit hume. brit, good evening. >> brit: hi, mike. >> let's talk about the top republicans and the rnc chair and speaker of the house going to mar-a-lago to get on the same page with former president trump. how do you see it? >> what is striking to me, mike, is the former president is acting in a way that i don't believe he ever has before. aligning himself again and again with the republican establishment on the hill. he has stuck up for mike johnson repeatedly. he is -- another single example is in the state of maryland, he has encorresponded larry hogan a man who says he will not vote for trump. and you see in this case of congressman good in virginia. he would have been someone who is considered an obvious person for trump to support and yet he is going against him. so i think this is -- the president is showing a streak of practicality and pragmatism in his recent behavior that we may not have seen in him before and it will be interesting to see if it lasts. so far it seems to be for the purpose of uniting the republican party, uniting himself and his campaign with the republican party elected officials. you know, with the exception of a few incumbents who is he opposing. very interesting. >> mike: to the other side of the 2024 race at the white house, press briefing today, there was a lot about a video that came up over the weekend of former president obama kind of guiding president biden off the stage. let me play the sound from the white house press secretary and i will get your analysis from there, brit. >> brit: he said this did not happen in the sense of what people were saying they were seeing. right? or what was being falsely reported that they were seeing. let's not forget, president obama, president biden have a relationship. they are friends. >> mike: brit, what do you make of this controversy? >> well, this is complicated, mike. for one thing a number of videos showing the president look like he is completely out of it. no question about that. this particular one what you are seeing on the screen right now has been cast as obama freezing. i mean, biden freezing and former president obama having to lead him off the stage. i have looked at that video a number of times. i don't see that. i see the -- i see the president -- president biden applauding, showing a complete awareness of what is going on around him. for a moment he sort of stands and stares and absorbs the applause from the audience. that lasts six or seven seconds. president obama reaches over and grabs his wrist and leads him off the stage and rather patronizingly puts his arm around him as they are walking off together. i would imagine that if members of the biden inner circle happen to see this and i'm sure they are by now they are annoyed with barack obama for acting in a way that it was not at all clear in that moment that he needed to act. that's where that lands. >> mike: forgive me for interrupting. no surprise in a race where age is clearly an issue that there would be sensitivity at the white house and the biden campaign about these video clips, right? >> well, after his political opponent, benny gantz resigned with another member, that war cabinet no longer existed. prime minister netanyahu when they were a part of the war cabinet making the decisions. he continues to make those decisions going forward. and, remember, grants wants his job and trying to force elections to take place. much has political ramifications as well as military significance. but my sources tell me, mike, what's actually hang with prime minister netanyahu and his advisers is they are looking at a couple' of options. one is to continue clearing operations in gaza that we have within seeing unfolding for 7 plus months and hopefully get a cease-fire and exchange of prisoners and hostages although sinwar has been objecting to that for sure the head of hamas inside gaza. the second option is to wind down the clearing operation in gaza and focus on hezbollah as a primary military objective. and what's happening here? i mean, iran drives hezbollah, hezbollah is their number one proxy. it was hezbollah in syria who took over the ground forces of assad's army when they were being depleted why syrian militia forces, tens of thousands of them in were syria, quite effective prior to the russians coming in to provide air power support for them. they are also the primary trainers of the iraqi and syrian militia forces. the houthis, hamas as well. so, this is a force of 100,000. they have conventional military capability, and they have 130,000 rockets and missiles, longer range, more precise, and significantly more lethal than anything we have seen from hamas reach any town or city in israel. so this is formidable. here is the israelis problem. they have 80,000 people on the northern border of israel bordering lebanon that have been evacuated. what israeli is looking at doing is pushing hezbollah back across the river in lebanon, referred to as la tany river. it's about 18 miles from the israeli border push all of their military capability back there. also have to push the citizens of southern lebanon back beyond that river as well. they have two choices, mike. they can try to do that with an air campaign ortho can do it with an air and ground campaign. this is not easy to do. in 2006 they were doing of the same in lebanon and after several weeks they retreated out of there. essentially a failed operation. they did air and ground at that time. all service chiefs were relieved as a result of this operations outcome. but, nonetheless, the israelis know full well if they don't do something about returning their settlers to israel's northern sector, the fact is then israel has a new border. and that is unacceptable to them. this operation is under consideration at the time. we'll see what unfolds in front of us. >> mike: general jack keane, always grateful for your analysis, sir. thank you very much. >> mike: up next, we head to the campaign trail for more fallout from president biden's star-studded fundraiser and then bret baier continues his series on space exploration with a look at the james webb telescope. >> mike: rich edson live on the north lawn. thank you very much. the surgeon general is calling for congress to warning liabilities social media platform similar to those mabsd tore on yet is boxes. dr. vivek murthy writes in the "new york times" the mental health crisis among young people is an emergency and social media has emerged as important contributor. the surgeon general spoke to dr. marc siegel in an interview on dr. radio on sirius xm. >> the message a warning label should convey is that we have seen -- we now have evidence that shows us that social media use many may be associated with mental health harms for adolescents. it would be a digital label that occurred when people use their app. at some regular frequency. >> pew research center reports up to 95% of youth ages 13 to 17 say they use a social media platform. more than a third say they use social media almost constantly. ♪ >> much of the nation is experiencing severe heat tonight as tens of millions of people face the first significant heat wave of the summer. experts warn it could be record-breaking and life-threatening. fox weather ian oliver joins us now from new york. good evening, ian. >> mike, good evening. yeah. this is a harsh hello from surgeon, which officially begins by the way come thursday afternoon but these are the heat alerts that are up from the great lakes all the way through the northeast in total. it's about 200 million people, 200 million americans that feel 90-degree temperatures are better as we move through this workweek. and that's going to challenge and break a lot of records. up to about 200 records over the next several days. this is for thursday. you look at manchester, new hampshire, 98 degrees. that's for a forecast high temperature. if they get up to 100. it will be the first time they have seen triple digits since june of 2008. and this is all driven by this big ridge in the jet stream, a powerful area of high pressure. you've got stable, sinking air that's compressing and warming. as it does so, these temperatures approach records up and down the i-95 corridor. this is friday now. new york, 93, philly is up to 97. then you consider these dew points, those are a measure of the amount of moisture in the air. it feels like temperatures well up into the triple digits and we are stuck with this before it throttles back the weekend early next week. mike? >> mike: ian oliver from fox weather. thank you very much. >> you bet. >> stream fox weather on your favorite connected tv device. find that on fox weather dot tv. a series of tragic shootings this weekend. police in round rock, texas are looking for suspects in the shooting that killed two people and wounded several others saturday night. it happened at a juneteenth celebration. the number of shooters is unclear. investigators in michigan are trying to find a motive for saturday's attack at a rochester hills splash pad. nine people hit including two children. a mother and her 8-year-old son are said to be in critical condition. police say the shooter took his own life. four miami police officers are facing charges tonight over an incident five years ago that culminated in a wild shootout in the middle of a busy highway. two innocent people were killed. police union officials say the officers had only seconds to decide what to do. correspondent danamarie mcnichol reports tonight from miami. >> we got a police officer coming up behind now. >> in december of 2019, two armed men robbed a jewelry store and hijacked this ups truck, leading police on high-speed chase. >> yeah, is he going to be blocked in right here. >> it came to an end in the middle of rush hour traffic. >> there are shots being fired. >> as 18 officers from four responding agencies exchanged gunfire with the suspects. the florida department of law enforcement said more than 200 shots were fired. only after the shooting stopped did officers realize the truck's original driver had been in the vehicle the whole time. the shootout killed not only the two suspects but also 27-year-old u.p.s. driver frank and 70-year-old richard cutshall an innocent bystander sitting in his car. a grand jury indicted four miami-dade county officers were manslaughter charges which could carry up to 30 years in prison if convicted. the officers turned themselves in over the weekend and were released without bail. the union that represents the officers criticized the still sealed indictment saying, quote we're extremely disappointed that after almost five years, these officers were finding themselves indicted for something they had seconds to decide. the broward state attorney says the year's long state investigation was necessary to get answers for the victim's family and the community. >> imagine seeing your brother get killed on live tv. it's traumatizing. i'm traumatized to this day see a u.p.s. truck and i cry. >> it's highly unlikely for florida law enforcement officers to be charged in relationship to ondoing killings. it's only happened three times in the last 40 years, and only one of those officers were convicted. mike? four more years, pause. >> when i was vice president. things were kind of bad during the pandemic. >> here today is hersch goldberg poll alan and still -- he is not here with us. but is he still being held by hamas. >> she knows so long nied. our freedom can never be secured. >> recent gaffes from president biden in a campaign where age is clearly an issue. the president was in hollywood this weekend raising money raked in an estimated $30 million muck the hollywood elite. one of the big takeaways was a moment with his former boss, former president barack obama. when the president grabbed his hand and walked him off stage here was the explanation at the white house podium today. it was a big back and forth between the press corps and the white house press secretary here is karine jean-pierre. cheap fake videos done in bad faith. instead of talking about the president's performance in office and what i mean by that legislative wins what he has been able to do for the american people across the country. we are seeing deep fakes, manipulated videos. and it is, again, done in bad faith. >> mike: let's bring in our panel trey gowdy former congressman from south carolina. katie pavlich news editor at town hall.com. jeff mason white house correspondent for reuters, welcome to all of you. so, jeff, as the person who covers that building on a daily basis, it was a big back and forth in the briefing room. no surprise age slights are sensitivities for the white house and his campaign team. what did you make of karine jean-pierre's language cheap fakes and then she apparently misspoke when she said deep fakes. >> yeah. i would set her language aside. the point she is making and that the white house would like to make is the president, yeah, yes, age is an issue in this campaign, focus on his age but focus on what he has done now. that doesn't dismiss incidents where his age is showing. his age is absolutely showing. yet, i think some of these incidents that have gotten a lot of attention from the two trips. one of which i was on. i was on his france trip absolutely videos that make it look worse than what it is. >> mike: katie, what do you make of it. obviously a lot of debate about the age issue in this campaign and these clips can't make democrats any happier. >> this new word the white house has come up with cheap fakes isn't going to solve this problem. it's not just videos of the president over the course of the past two or three weeks. it's a culmination of the past six months. you had the robert hur special counsel investigation report come out in february. noting that the president was not charged because he seemingly elderly man with a poor memory and paragraphs of information about what report has actually said. the department of justice has not allowed the audio version of that interview to come out. again, sparking suspicion the president may have sounded worse than the actual transcript may have said. then you have this "wall street journal" article that recently came out with 45 sources saying that the president is slipping behind the scenes with the white house out front is trying to say that he is rigorous behind closed doors. and the white house could mitigate this. they have not made the white house position available for questioning in the press briefing room. they have withheld a cognitive test for the president. and they have kept him away in terms of accessibility. so there's a lot that the white house could actually do mitigate this problem. put the president out there to say look, is he doing a great job. here he is in his own words but they are not doing that. >> mike: trey, as the former elected official of the group optics are critical. what did you make of the white house's handling of this matter today? >> it's sad. but, i mean, they have bad facts. i mean, it clearly that is not the joe biden that i met 10 years ago. it is sad. it actually breaks my heart to say that but, mike, is he not fit to run like a lemonade stand. it's not just that video. i can't understand him when he is talking. so, i think what's going to happen is the country can judge for itself during the debates whether or not that person is capable of running the united states of america. and i say that -- i mean, we are all -- father time is undefeated. you are not going to win that battle. someone needs to step in and say you know what, joe, have you had a good run. we are going to run someone else. you are just not up for it. >> mike: another key issue in this campaign, of course, the border crisis and now a case of an illegal immigrant in this country accused of murdering a maryland mother of five. let's play the sound from the sheriff there in maryland. >> every citizen in this country that, is a public safety crisis and one that we can so easily fix by really coming up with a workable immigration policy for our country. it's just insane that we would allow things like rachel's murder to happen. and when i say allow it. we allowed it by letting him into this country unchallenged. >> mike: and let's provide a little context. cbs with a report saying biden preparing to offer legal status to undocumented immigrants who have lived in the united states for 10 years. jeff, what about the border crisis as it relates to this campaign? >> well, the border crisis is a huge issue for president biden. it's going to be a huge issue for president trump. former president trump is making it one of his key arguments for re-election. i think the biden folks, the biden campaign, the biden white house has tried to inoculate him to some extent with the legislation they proposed. very happy to tell you republicans did not end up supporting. and then he ended up doing an executive order that executive order has pros and cons. but he has tried to inoculate himself to some extent by doing that i think you will hear from him probably over and over again over the next few months and probably in that debate as well that they could have gotten an even stronger piece of immigration legislation through if republicans hadn't pulled their support. >> mike: katie, what about that? >> i think this case of the mother of five in maryland just reiterates the lie that's been told by the department of homeland security. administration that they are vetting the millions of people. the they are not only letting into the country but paroling through and releasing on to american streets. you have this case. you have the terrorist isis connected members who are coming through. and up to this point they have argued we are vetting all of them so they are safe to come here. not only can they not vet them against governments sloppy at best but corrupt and also complete failed states. they don't know who these people are and we have been told the american people have been told that they do. and this is not true. >> trey, your thoughts on the border crisis as it relates to campaign 2024. >> yeah, nursing students can't go for a jog. young mothers can't go for a walk. people like contrast. politics is all about contrast. this is the border in crime colliding. and if republicans can stop cannibalizing one another, this could be their very best issue. this -- these kind of stories enrage people. they enrage people. but, laken riley, when is the last time that somebody mentioned her name? we have a tendency to move on. republicans have to keep banging this drum. the border and crime are inextricably intertwined. >> mike: 15 seconds, trey, encouraging to see house leadership going to meet with former president trump to talk about a way forward together. >> house leadership is already united. they need to go talk to the matt gaetz of the world and others sowing the seed of discord. it's not johnson. >> mike: panel, thank you very much. ♪ >> mike: and finally tonight, a special day.
