probably not. that's number 1. number 2, did someone profit off of this horrible catastrophe? it's largely impossible to prove. my guess is that there's some counter veiling reason why this happened. listen, we're always on the look at conspiracies. we're in a conspiratorial age here. some israeli reps have options activities and people look at hamas and the hamas attacks and say bingo. >> and put something together later. you're right about this. you're so smart on this. but you can use the funds to buy stuff here and maybe altered stuff. the studies don't indicate anything was wildly out of order at the time that this was happening from september 15 to october 5. the markets in general, not just in israel, were getting hit around that time. financial -- the dow, the nasdaq and s&p down. financial issues were falling 10%. that's long before the attacks. having said that, they always can find unusual trading at any time to pair with a big event. i'm wondering here, would authorities now in israel already-embarrassed, it's easy to play monday morning quarterback here by these reports that the government was warned of a hamas attack by this, pounce on something like this and say that did not happen? >> my guess is that they have a lot bigger fish to fry right now. worrying about -- think of it this way. i have nothing against the authors. joshua is a smart guy. i spoke with him. he has some political biases here in my view. his whole thesis here is that the trading occurred in what is known as off exchange funds pools of liquidity known as dark pools where you can match buyers and sellers or do short trades outside the new york stock exchange, the nasdaq. totally legal. he's against that. part of this is fitting with his entire sort of theory about the markets that we should get rid of dark pools. >> neil: and you're brilliant at this. dark pools involved dark characters again now identifying. a lot of exchanges have a way too make sure that you can identify them. >> dark pools are not mysterious at all. you can match buyers and sellers off of the new york stock exchange and the nasdaq. they didn't want any competition from any other exchange. there's some controversy surrounding them. joshua talks about that. but my bigger point is think about it this way. if you knew this was happening and you wanted a short to stock, wouldn't you have done a lot more? it seems like it's so trifling compared to what went on. if you really wanted to capitalize, there's got to be a way to make more money than trading some options away from the major stock exchange. >> neil: the only other argument to that, letting people hear both sides, by making a lot of money, you would draw more attention -- >> but making a little money. >> it wasn't 900 million, might be as low as 90 million. but we don't know. they're tearing this apart. >> do these guys really care?
