Breaking news out of the middle east this morning, President Biden reportedly considering a trip to israel in the coming days, as of now no travel plans have been finalized. We are waiting on more information. Meanwhile, President Biden yesterday on 60 minutes actually blamed maga republicans and chaos in congress for the rise in global threats. Yes. Watch this. Does the dysfunction that weve seen in congress increase the danger in the world . Yes. Look, this is not your fathers republican party. 30 is made up of maga republicans who are maybe democracy is something they dont look at the same way you and i look at democracy. Maria liz, this is actually pretty outrageous this morning. So, no, President Biden is not talking about his Climate Change agenda which shut down oil production, putting National Security at risk in america, sending oil prices spiking. Hes not talking about the reckless spending of the democrats which sends inflation to 40year highs. Hes not even talking about his ineptitude on the world stage with a wide open southern border where terrorists are flowing in and that reckless and botched withdrawal from afghanistan which sent our adversaries on the rise and hes not even talking about his appeasement of killers including iran for the last two years china which is sending surveillance vehicles into our country. No, no, no, hes talking about maga republicans for the chaos that were seeing. I think its the most offensive thing possibly hes ever said in office and that is maria i agree. And that is a long, long list. Since the day he took office, every single thing hes done has been to overturn what trumps policies were and every single time it has backfired, maria. Whether its at the border or in our relations with china or relations with russia, you name it, this is a weak president. The world sees it. If we are talking about a bum bling, stuttering incapable man of 80 years old trying to lead this country, imagine what the thugs that run all those evil countries look at. I mean, they see a guy who cannot defend america, is not defending america and now he is blaming his political opponents for all of the things that he has done wrong. Energy is just the tip of the iceberg. But it is a really big tip of the iceberg. Because in suppressing american production, which should be 3 to 4 Million Barrels a day higher than it is right now. He has emboldened and a enriched iran, venezuela, russia, and other countries. Everything he has done is wrong. It is its inconceivable that he is blaming maga republicans for the turmoil we see basically stemming from his misguided policies. Maria it sure is. And does he think we dont know, does he think were not aware of 13 servicemen, people losing their lives because of his botched withdrawal from afghanistan which triggered our adversaries . Does he think we dont know about how he has been appeasing china all of these years and triggering them to do whatever they want to American Police stations in new york, for gods sake, does he think we dont know that inflation is at a 40 year high. He has the nerve to say he wants to run for reelection, despite all of this and several worlds of crisis of his administration. Watch this. Given these two wars and the dysfunction in congress, are you sure that you want to run again . Yes. Because im sure look. When i ran, i said the worlds at an Inflection Point, the worlds changing. We have an opportunity to make it imagine if we were able to succeed in getting the middle east put in place where we have normalization of relations, i think we can do that. Maria we had normalization. We had peace in the middle east because of the Abraham Accords under the trump administration. He also said that the u. S. Does not need to send troops to israel and the administration will provide everything that they need, liz. What are t are they provided . Good question. Not that long ago he told the world rather inartfuly that we were out of munitions because of our involvement with ukraine so im not sure what we have left in the Armaments Department to send to israel. Again, everything he has done pretty much since he took a office has been wrong. And m mainly because it is guidd by nothing other than hatred of donald trump including the interview last night. Hon ofe of honestly, at at se point hes going to realize its not just 30 of republicans who consider him wrongfooted on almost every policy, its the majority of americans. I dont know if he looked at the polls lately. He has the worst polling of any president in our generation. That is actually quite an accomplishment. Maria yeah. Joe . He was right about one thing. We were at an Inflection Point when he took office and unfortunately he was the catalyst for making things worse. That is how history is going to remember him. We always had these tinges of jimly carterism when people started comparing fiewn his predecessors now we have a hostage situation on the eve of his reelection and one can only bring up the notion that he might even be worse than jimmy carter. He wants to blame maga republicans. You alluded to the Abraham Accords. We had a moment where the suni world, the broader middle east was aligning behind donald trump, lock step with him, supporting israel, growing relationships better than it ever was. If that actually made iran really mad and you want to blame maga republica maga republicr that, i think President Trump would love to be blamed for whats going on right now if it was the result record cooperation in the middle east under his tenure. Maria they were this close for getting the saudis to the agree to the abraham accord. I want to talk about the 6 billion for a moment. This administration has been defending its decision to unfreeze 6 billion to iran from day one of this conflict. Theyve been trying so hard to defend it and they came up with this idea that was leaked over the last couple of days that they came up with some kind of a quiet agreement to with qataris to hold had that money back from you iran once again. I am questioning this quiet agreement. I know that Michael Mccall broke news on the show yesterday saying that he is launching a bill today to make sure that money is permanently off limits for iran but then i spoke with reza palovi, the former crown prince of iran. Heres what he said about this quiet agreement that the administrations trying to sell us. Watch this. They qataris; rejected the notion that the 6 billion was unfrozen. Thats not the case. 6 billion released to iran, not to mention the points that were made earlier about how much access iran has to revenue, former Speaker Mccarthy indicated, if you want to go to the particular freezing of assets, its a drop in the ocean visavis the funds they have access to. Thats the big picture. Maria he heard qataris said were not refreezing anything. Why would they . Qatar has been supporting iran. Yes. And been the host country to negotiations apparently between all these terrorist organizations. So and by the way, theyre the host for hamas leadership. So im not sure theyre really on our side in this but i would just argue, look, the 6 billion is important. Its sort of a symbol of the biden appeasement effort to iran to, again, reignite this effort for a nuclear deal which everyone at the time when obama pushed for it agreed was a terrible deal. So why were going down that road again, i have no idea. But again, 6 billion compared to what they freed up in the way of Incremental Oil revenues for iran by simply ignoring sanctions. By the way, and ignoring of sanctions that janet yellen actually denied in public recently. I cant get my head around this. I mean, i think the lying is extraordinary a Everything Else and shame on biden for talking about maga republicans being antidemocratic. Hes trying to put his opponent in jail. Maria exactly. Take a look at futures, where were looking at a mixed opening ahead of a big week for Third Quarter earnings, dow industrials up 126, nasdaq is negative by 5, were wait on the major Banks Including Bank of america and Goldman Sachs tomorrow followed by of course Morgan Stanley and netflix and a tesla on wednesday. We just heard from jp morgan last week and citi. What are you expecting from the Third Quarter reporting season . Yeah, its a big week. I mean, we got some clues friday from some of these banks that i think cracks are starting to form in some of the spending habits of the consumer. Thats been the story of the year, the resilience of the Consumer Spending but card balances are up. Net chargeoffs have almost doubled from a year ago and i think Consumer Spending is like losing weight. If youre a couple pounds overweight no one is saying anything to you. Youre probably not making changes. But if you get really overweight your best friend is saying whats going on here, its like when you cant pay off your credit card bill and you probably start making changes when the bank says no more credit, youre done. I think thats the point were starting to get to with the consumer. Theyve been very resilient. We have 25 million of them that will have to start paying consumer loans again and the debt the college debt, sorry and i think the Holiday Season is going to be a rough one. Maria yeah. We just spoke with geristore. The other day, jerry storch. He said it will be one of the worst Holiday Seasons for spending, layering on that the threat coming out of israel and the vicks index shooting up to 34 and investors are looking at safe havens, talking about you utilities, hard assets like gold. Is that what you would be doing right now do you want to wait until the earnings season gives us more clarity . Well, i think you want a little more clarity. Market timing is very difficult. I think investors should know what they have in their portfolios, be very comfortable with as hell allocation. I asset allocation. I would be on a lighter end of equitya allocation given where e are in the cycle. It seems recession is going to come here. It doesnt have to be terrible. We would have thought we would be in one by now but again, the consumers been so resilient and the markets been so strong so i would lighten up on the risk a little bit, probably own a little more quality. You have interest costs that will start eating into some of ththese companys earnings, you Want Companies with little to no debt that wont experience refinancing costs. Maria thats why were looking at Interest Rates, of course. Wife got a big week of Economic Data and thats going to impact these markets. September retail sales come out tomorrow morning, the october nahb housing index l followed by september Housing Starts and Building Permits on wednesday, existing home sales coming out on friday, mike and look at this yield on the 10 year. Last week with end of the last week we saw the 10 year treasury at 4. 6 . Thats down from where it was just a couple weeks ago. This morning, weve got yields higher. Whats your take on the 10 year treasury up 8 basis points right now, mike . Sitting at 4. 706 . Thats not a good number for stocks. No, maria. So in line with the war in israel starting, you had hedge funds and cta Commodity Trading advisors all very, very short heading into that so the flight to safety that we saw, the buying of the 10 year all the out to the 30 year, that sparked a reversal in all of that selling because its this Dollar Strength through fixed income selling, when the dollar gets abnormally strong on a very quick timeframe, thats bad for all risk assets in the u. S. And so now the treasuries were tracing some of the gains that it made over the last week that we saw in the flight to safety. I dont know how much higher yields were going to see because as ryan just mentioned, the consumer is weakening substantially. You have 92 of households, according to a survey that came out last week, plan to you cut back on Discretionary Spending over the next year. Youre starting to see it in credit card data. So outside of the top 100 banks, credit card defaults have hit an alltime high. Okay. On top of that, you saw it from jp morgans card spend data, it was up 8 year over year but the savings rate, the savings deposit balance at jp morgan were down the same 8 and carloff chargeoffs had almost doubled. Were starting to see the cracks around the edges. The bureau of economic analysts and a lot of these other institutions out of washington, d. C. Have been extraordinarily creative in the use of seasonal ad justments to make the data look far better than it actually is on the inside of it and when you look at the new York Fed Survey of financial conditions among consumers in the u. S. , those that are much worse off than a year ago are hitting levels, if you take out covid, not previously seen so were about to see Consumer Spending fall off the cliff and were about to see housing data grind to almost a halt because Interest Rates are so high which stops people from buying new homes, stops people from selling homes and stops builders from financing the building of new homes. Theres a huge Multiplier Effect thats occurring in the economy, that less people building homes, working on homes, it slows the entire economy. So look, i do not see good things in front us. Maria well, were going to get that then from the guidance when we get these earnings. Were going to have to hear from management teams about what theyre expecting Fourth Quarter and next year so all of what youre saying may very well be transparent in the coming weeks. Maria welcome back. The deadline expiring for palestinians to flee gaza as israeli troops gather at the border. Correspondent trey yingst has been reporting all morning. He joins us from southern israel with more. Reporter people still waiting to see whether or not a that raffa crossing between gaza and egypt will open. There are many foreigners that have gathered there. The u. S. Government telling American Workers that are in gaza to go to that border and wait. And so there are conversations taking place behind the scenes between the israeli government, the egyptians and other mediators, trying to understand if they can cut a deal to get aid into gaza in exchange for getting some of these foreigners out. While this is taking place, u. S. Secretary of state Antony Blinken is on the ground, meeting with israeli Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu in Central Israel and the war continues in the south. There are thousands of troops prepared, waiting for orders to come through, ultimately to enter the gaza strip and in the northern part of israel, more rocket fire yesterday and small arms fire which drew ans israeli response. This is very quickly turning into a multifront conflict. Weve seen the Missile Defense system throughout southern israel, we know theyre in northern israel and we anticipate the country is bracing for the possibility that this unravels into a much more difficult situation on the ground. Maria and has there been any response, trey, that youve seen on the ground in terms of irans threat to israel, theyre threatening israel, dont go into gaza because you will face a quote, unquote, earthquake according to sources who say iran is now threatening. How do you not connect the dots to iran when in fact theyre out front, saying dont go into gaza, to israel . Reporter yes, the Israeli Military said today the small arms fire and rocket fire from hezbollah in southern lebanon yesterday was directly linked to iran, they said iran ordered the fire into israel. It gives you a sense theyre testing the waters here, they want to see whats going to draw an israeli response, how big it will be, what its going to look like and whether or not they can take pressure off the south and off of hamas by opening up a front in the north so theres a direct link iran and iran had made clear through the foreign minister speaking with the leader of hamas in the gulf and overall that they will get involved. They say they wont stand by idly if israel enters the gaza strip and every indication is right now unless some sort of big deal comes to the surface they will enter gaza and brings up questions about how will the iranians respond, will they order hezbollah to fire on israel, will they fire themselves with missiles, theres a vai variety of scenars that israel has to be on say all on alert. Maria let me get youn the hostages. You reported earlier that now you understand that there are 199 hostages currently being held by hamas. Thats a higher number than what you were reporting last week, trey. Reporter yeah, absolutely. We were surprised by that number ourselves this morning, the israelis came out and said theyve spoken with 199 families of people held hostage inside the gaza strip and so it gives you a sense that theyre still gathering their bearings and understanding how bad this was and the number is expected to rise. There are many unaccounted people and they havent been able to make it into all areas along the border to understand if hamas fighters slaughtered people in the communities along the border or if they took them back into gaza. Well, i traveled to israel quite a bit. Yi think as we go through this, we always dont forget what happened here. Over 1,000 israelis were killed i think 30 americans. Weve got american hostages, israeli hostages, hamas is a terrorist organization. Iran needs to be held accountable. Hamas needs to be completely obliterated. Anybody that wants to help palestinians should open their border and accept these palestinians but we are going to this is going to be very, very tough times. Weve got to do everything we can to get hostages out and weve got to do everything we can to help israel defeat hamas and weve got to make sure iran gets held accountable. Its real simple, ya cay tar, they need to qatar, they need to do something with regard to the hamas leader in their country. This is a crisis thats america has to show up, Bidens Administration has been asleep at the wheel, doing the wrong thing and we all have to understand this is dangerous. Our borders open. So by the way, these people that are supporting hamas, baby kill canners in this country, baby killers in this country, its wrong, its against the law to provide Financial Support to hamas. Anybody that supports hamas is held accountable. Youre right, we have got to understand, weve got an open border. Weve got we have a significant risk of a terror attack right here in our country. Maria yeah. Well, President Biden is talking about the humanitarian crisis in gaza as his priority. He writes this on x. We must not lose sight of the fact that the overwhelming majority of palestinians had nothing to do with hamas appalling attacks and are suffering as a result of them. I havent heard what he said about Israeli Citizens but of course theyre of course hoping and praying for their lives after this a attack from hamas. How about the over 1,000 People Killed in israel, how about the 30 americans, how about the people held hostage, thats what we ought to be focused on. Anybody that dies in gaza is a responsibility of hamas. Hamas caused this. Theyre the ones who attacked the citizens in israel. Theyre the ones that are using civilian as a shield. Theyre the ones preventing civilians from getting to the would dfrom the border with e. Hamas is responsible for whatever happens in gaza. Not what israel has to do. They dont have a choice. They had have to go in and completely annihilate hamas, no different than we had to annihilate isis if we want to make sure we dont have another terrorist attack. Maria i know the Senate ForeignRelations Committee is having a hearing on former treasury secretary jack lou, hes going to become the ambassador to israel if biden gets his way. Your thoughts. Ill do everything i can to prevent him from being the ambassador. He supported the iran deal. Hes n a appeaser, no different than what bidens being doing. Heathers doing a great job there. We do not need jack lou to go in and be a p a passifist. Maria they are looking to block refugees from entering the United States, writing we cant President Biden abuse our visa rules to let unvetted palestinians to come into our communities. Mr. Putin and china are involved in this. Hamas representatives were just in moscow a couple weeks ago, god knows what they were talking about before the invasion but theyre all complicit in this, theyre all in bed together, china, russia, iran. Well, first of all, we know had that north korea and weapons are showing up in hamas hands in israel and that means that north korea could not have done that without chinas aof proofl. W approval. We are starting to see chinese made weapons there as well.
