The surge reportedly being driven by chemotherapy drugs and cardiovascular drugs as well as infection drugs that haley mentioned. Remember during covid we saw the chinese media, state media, come out with a tweet saying well, the United States needs the active ingredients from china and maybe we just wont send them to america anymore and theres a comment that xi jinping made in a speech during the 100 year celebration of the communist party, saying we have to make sure the world is dependent on the chinese supply chain so that we can turn it off when we deem necessary. Unbelievable. Because that otherwise gives them the leverage to control the world which we cant have. But with regard to the drugs in particular, you raise such a great point. This is biological Chemical Warfare if you actually think about it. If they can turn off the spigot, people can ph potentially die. I think nikki haley should have gone a step further. My little one wont die if she doesnt get a amoxicillin. You mentioned chemotherapy and cardiovascular drugs, if they turn off the spigot on those, people co could die. Theres a lot in the pipeline we are dependent on china for. You worry if they want to play hard ball and i dont believe theyve come close to playing as hard as they could, china could put us in a real bind. We are america. We invented manufacturing. We should be able to bring manufacturing of drugs state side. Maria youre right. Cheryl, its unbelievable. Right now not only are we depend on china for these active ingredients in the drugs we need, but what the Biden Administration is doing is jamming through this Climate Change agenda, making us dependent on china for the electric vehicles they want us to buy. The batteries are made in china. So were doing it all over again even as they talk about lessening the supply chains, theyre not. And this is another mistake by the Biden Administration. The reason why we import these drugs so gladly, lets say, from china is because it is cheaper. But cheaper isnt good enough. You have to wonder if anybody on the stage, donald trump was looking at, and saying well, this could be a good partner. Joining me is university of akron endowment p fund chairman, Dennis Gartman and with us all morning, john lonski. Dennis, good to see you. John, i want to kick things off with you as we look at the rally underway on the final trading day of september and the third quarter. This week the 10 year treasury yield climbing all the way to 4. 6 . What do you make of the bond market as we see a rally in stocks this morning, probably more to do with the end of the quarter than anything fundamental. Maria, i think its too early to state with confidence that a top for the 10 year treasury bond yield is near. I think theres a pretty good chance the 10 year treasury yield continues to climb, that it moves up to 4. 6 , perhaps heads up towards 4. 7 . The bond market is finally recognizing that these gigantic federal budget deficits are going to be with us for some time, especially if we follow through with these scheduled these legislated subsidies and regulations related to green energy, evs, as well as microchips. Its a terrifying number. 6 of gdp for the u. S. Federal budget deficit through 2025, thats usually what you associate with a recession. And heaven help us if we have an economic downturn. That means that as a percent of gdp, that deficit might be heading up towards 8 , if not 10 . Rough going for refreshlies. Heres what treasuries. Heres what i think. Treasury yields continue to move higher until Something Big breaks and that thing that is big that might break could well be the u. S. Equity market if not the u. S. Economy. Maria yeah. And thats what this fight in washington is all about, the fact that all of this spending ah has stoked inflation and its still elevated. Dennis, no matter how many times we say inflation is off of the highs, its way down from the 9. 1 we saw in the cpi more than a year ago. Oil prices are going the other way. Theyre up. And theyre still hovering close to 100 a barrel. Doesnt that undermine any effort to take inflation down with crude this morning at 92, 61 . Lets make this very simple and say yes, thats make a big difference. The fact that the markets are focusing on where crude oil prices have gone, theres an anomaly going on in the crude oil market that a we need to Pay Attention to, probably the front end of the yield curve has been disextended because of a shortage of crude oil at the delivery are point in oklahoma. We have a narrowing of wti brent premium to wti. Normally brent trades 4 premium to wti, now its trading at 2. It could go to parody, Pay Attention to whats going on there. We had a difficult time yesterday in the crude oil market. There were rumors the saudis with discon disconcerted about t that crude was getting close to 100 and there was talk they would end their embargo earlier than anticipated. Watch the term structure. The term structural came in for wti and brent yesterday rather dramatically and the term structure will change before the direction of prices. But i think at 95 to 96 96 foi is an extremely high price. Maria weve got the august pce number coming out this morning in an hour and 15 minutes. Economists are expecting prices toss be up two tenths of a percent month over month and 3. 9 year over year. Do you think were going to see the reflection of spiking oil in this august number . I doubt that we get anything more than two tenths of 1 month over month. Its the year over year number that people will Pay Attention to. We might get a number closer to 4 rather than 3. 9 . Time shall tell. It will be interesting to see the number. Thats clearly the number the fed pays most attention to when it comes to inflation. Well see what hams. But i think it will be two tenths of 1 on month on month and maybe higher year over year. Time shall tell. Maria oil was elevated during the month of august. Thats when we started seeing oil b bubble up, right. Gasoline was significantly higher in the month of august, along with oil. Weve seen a smaller increase by gasoline prices thus far in the month of september, telling me that were not going to see a replay of headline inflation for the cpi growing by six tenths of a percent, maybe that goes back down to nothing no faster than two tenths of a percent but theres a real risk that the price of crude oil rises further, approaches 100 per barrel. In that case well have Higher Energy costs, higher petroleum costs passed along to the entire economy. Lets not forget labor costs. What were looking at now are a lot of wage agreements that are averaging 5 a annually over 5 annually over the next several years, thats up from the current 4. 3 year over year increase that we get for the average hourly wage. And if Wage Inflation does pick up, that could only spell of faster inflation for services and thats where your problem is. Your know, with the the pce price index it was in the month of august, Service Consumer Service Prices higher by 5 year over year. Consumer goods prices on the other hand, tan tangible goods, their prices were down by two tenths of a percent. Maria can i make money on this . How do you make money on this . Well, i think one way of making money on this is by saying to yourself if inflation is a close to peaking, does that mean at some point in 2024 were going to be looking at lower Interest Rates and then you want to look at the stocks and right now theyre getting clobbered by high Interest Rates, the utilities are getting beaten up pretty badly and perhaps there might be breathing room for banks they may not have to increase Interest Rates on deposits as much as some fear. The house voting on Appropriations Bills last night, passing funding for homeland security, the state department, and the pentagon. But the bill funding agriculture and the food and Drug Administration failed to advance after 27 republicans voted against it. The house approved 300 million in new aid for ukraine, for training ukrainian soldiers, 117 republicans voted no on that bill. House speaker Kevin Mccarthy was very straightforward, posting on x, quote, if President Biden stays on the sidelines while our border is destroyed, day after day, the government will shut down. Maria walk us through what took place this week and where we are. Are you expecting the government to shut down on saturday night . Well, weve been walking through getting through the rules and getting through the final Appropriations Bills, looking at the hundreds of amendments that individuals are allowed to submit in regular order and weve gone through and through and weve got three of the four bills passed out, one did not, agriculture did not pass out. A lot of folks who are in the midwest really thought the cuts were too stringent but were moving on. I think were doing in the process what we intended to do. Sad thing is, some of our colleagues slowed the process a little bit. Were at the praecipes. We have to fund the government and we either do it through a cr or shut down. Im cautiously optimistic well get a cr, not shut down. Maria you passed three out of the four that you were working on. Thats a big deal, three out of the four seems to me to be a victory. You only had a couple days and you did that. But i want to get your take on how long you think it will take to get the rest of the work done. Lets say we get that continuing resolution. Is that the cr that Byron Donalds and scott perry worked on where its an 8 cut in spending but it makes the border policy changes the key centerpiece . Well, i think so. Theres several different iterations, maria, that still are flexible to this day. Theres thought to be a discharge petition by one of the members from new york to get the whole thing done cleanly. Im not in favor of that. But the whole fact is that were thinking about it and moving it forward. I want to get your take on the other big piece of business, that is the householding the first impeachment inquiry, the hearing yesterday. Congresswoman nancy mace joined me to talk about this. Who is helping donald trump win the election most is joe biden by his disastrous policies, the absolute majority of americans right now see his immigration policy as antiamerican and destroying the country. But what do you deem as the most important evidence against joe biden for potential bribery . Well, its a web. Its a web, maria. The more we hear out of what took place, whether its about joe biden and these bribery situations or covid and the censorship that we all faced during covid, the more that we do not trust this government, whats the sorry with Anthony Fauci and the cia . Well, Anthony Fauci in my opinion was an arrogant despicable leader of medicine at that time but instead of doing it objectively, he did it with 100 political science. And what were finding now is joe has to go to any length to protect himself from looking like hes attacking china because they have so much evidence on joe for being actually corrupt. And so fauci, whether its related to joe biden or not, knew that if people knew that the virus came out of china, that his political career, his medical career would be over because he was funding this research. So it initially you came out that the virus came out from this lab but then it was a quick switcharoo, they changed all the evidence, they made people who were putting out the theory and the knowledge i absolutely 100 believe it came out of that lab, not on purpose but it came out of that lab so fauci has lied upon lied upon lied, i saw you brads letter alleging this access to the cia. But its part of an Agency Scheme to protect the president and deflect the fact that biden doesnt want anything coming out of china that looks like theyre atacking china. Heres Oversight Committee chairman james comer laying things out for us this week. Watch. He lied by telling the American People there was an absolute wall between his official government duties and his personal life. Lets be clear. There was no wall. Thank you for joining us this morning. What is your assessment of that hearing and where we are right now in terms of this impeachment p inquiry. Give us your be opinion. Well, you know, maria. , ithought there were a lot of people yesterday who said they were disa a disappointed because there didnt seem to be a smoking gun that came out of the hearing and i think thats a testament to the success of the Committee Process going up into the impeachment inquiry because if you knew nothing at all about any of this going into yesterday and they told you the biden family between 2014 and 2019 raked in 24 million from corrupt and antiamerican regimes or at least people connected to them, that would be jawdropping. So part of the reason i think people came away from yesterdays hearing a little bit disappointed is because weve heard all this stuff before because of the tremendous progress that the other committees made and yesterday was just a pretty standard hearing that you would do at the beginning of anything as important as an impeachment inquiry, to explain what is required for impeachment and give a general outline of what you think youre going to prove in the coming hearings and i think thats what they did yesterday and their process is a little bit unwieldy. They had 47 different members asking five minute rounds of questions so its hard to its hard to stay with one thread for any sustained threngt of time but you know, this is going to be a long process. Maria well, lets talk about some of the potential evidence that the House Republicans have talked about. This 260,000 in wire payments, there was one check for 250,000 and another check for 10,000 from Hunter Bidens Chinese Business partners, labeled as a personal investment. Despite hunters legal team claiming the money was part of a loan, the beneficiary address for that wire was listed as joe bidens delaware home. And i find this really striking because at the time, hunter was living in california. So hunters living in california but his chinese partners decide to send 250,000 to joe bidens home . And by the way, this is not a long time ago. This is 2019. So you know, in 2019 as joe biden is getting ready to run, in the my you del of his campaign for middle of his campaign for president , he received a quarter Million Dollars at his home from Chinese Business partners. I asked house Oversight Committee chairman james comer about the white houses excuse on this and heres what he told me. Hunter biden was living with his dad during covid. Theres two problems with that lie that he and sam said. Number one, covid hadnt happened yet. We were six months away from covid happening, and number two, hunter lived in california, according to his own book. T at that time he lived in california. The wire was sent to joe bidens house in delaware while he was a candidate for president. Maria at the same time andy, the house ways and Means Committee released an email from an irs agent writing about a cnn producer who claims to have a hunter biden email where hunter expected his legal stuff, quote, unquote, to go aaway when his father became president , andy. How is the white house going to wash away these things and what is your assessment of those two things in terms of evidence . Well, first, maria, didnt you and i also expect the case to go away when joe biden became president . I mean, who in america didnt expect the case to go away on hunter when joe became president. I think if theres an error here, its that we indulged or the committees have indulged too much this idea that theres Hunter Bidens business dealings and we have to figure out what if anything joe biden knew about them, what connection he may have had to them and i think thats just the wrong way to look at it. The right way to look at this is that joe biden was the business. Theres no business without joe biden. He could have shut this down in 10 seconds if he objected to it and yet it went on for years and years. Without him theres no business. Access to him is the business. And as you mentioned with our friend john turley before, and we also got this yesterday from the witness, the woman who was a top official in the tax division at the justice department. If you make payments to somebody by paying somebody close to them like a close family maam member,thats a constructive pao the person, thats the way the irs looks at it, thats the way the government looks at it. You cant get a security clearance in the United States unless you fill out a book length application where you have to lay out not only your own transactions and your own connections with people overseas, but all of your close family members because thats the way the government has always looked atist. Thats the way people get blackmailed. Thats the way that benefits get conferred from foreign powers to government officials. Its what the Intelligence Community worries about. I dont see why were continuing to talk about this as if it were Hunter Bidens business when you see 25 million going one way and no value coming back the other way. The only thing that is valuable is access to joe biden. Maria exactly. Yeah. And thats why from the beginning i said this is a joe biden investigation. Not a hunter biden investigation only. And the fact is, its laughable when the democrats say that joe biden doesnt have you any fingerprints on this because the whole business was joe biden. And were also seeing evidence of a coverup that the doj knew all of this and yet they still turned a blind eye but instead theyre doubling down on trump. One of your latest opeds asks the question did a judge go too nature new yorks civil case against trump. Tell me more about that. This is a family that built their empire in new york who were told they could no longer do business in new york because of that judges ruling. You know this, maria. Its a corporate Death Penalty which is very rare in the new york jus Justice System if you t to call it a Justice System but it you was just dropped on trump. But to put somebody out of business under circumstances where you cant even charge them with a crime in that connection and you havent proved that theres a single victim or business or Financial Institution that got swindled out of this, i just think thats so draconian.
