Maria welcome back. Good wednesday morning, everybody. Thanks very much for being here this morning. Im Maria Bartiromo. It is wednesday, september 27. It is 7 00 a. M. On the east coast. Time for the hot topic of the hour. Seven candidates squaring off tonight in the second gop president ial debate. Madison alworth is live from the reagan president ial library in california. Reporter good morning. It is debate day in simi valley at the Ronald Reagan president ial library, in just 14 hours, seven gop candidates will take the stage and a make their pitch to the American Public why they should be the next republican nominee for president. Lets take a look at the lineup. Were looking at seven candidates on that stage. One less than the debate a month ago. Asa hutchinson, not qualifying, doug bergham the last to qualify the last week. Desantis is in the center of the stage, polling the highest. Ram. When you look at the indivil candidates, ron desantis like i said in the center because he still is polling the highest out of this group. His numbers have been sliding since the last time we saw him on the debate stage. His campaign looking to regain momentum here tonight. Nikki haley, she is moving closer to the center of the stage compared to one month ago a. That was following a very strong debate where she saw poll numbers increase. That could put a target on her back. All of these candidates on stage tonight will be set beneath Ronald Reagans air force one plane, that plane belonging to seven different president s under Ronald Reagan, it flew 661,000 miles to 26 different Foreign Countries and 46 states. A historic plane that really symbolizes the presidency, especially the presidency of one Ronald Reagan, one of the most prominent conservative figures in u. S. Political history. Having the plane over the candidates tonight will serve as a physical reminder of their dream to follow in 40s foot steps as a strong conservative member and potentially the next leader of the Republican Party p. Maria. Maria oh, great, madison thanks so much. It looks so beautiful there. Your thoughts . I hope the candidates actually are not tempted to attack trump and one another and vivek and they get to talk about the issues that really are representative of the reagan presidency. He was very strong on the economy. One of the other things he was strong on were our communist enemies. Theres a piece at the berlin wall, just being able to go tough on china, talking about things like freedom and liberty and whats at stake here, having some of those really more esoteric conversations is something i hope to see. Maria i would like to hear a conversation about policy. Yes. And desantis has a great record to run on with regard to Economic Policy and how he dealt with covid. He turned tout be right. These were issues that governors mostly controlled, not the president. Although he had certain issues he can differ with trump on there but thats the problem is trumps not on the stage and these governors, a lot of them werent in office at the time. Maybe he could take mike pence to task over that. But if he could just steer the conversation to these issues hes very strong on, he might be able to draw a contrast a. But on most of these things, the candidates agree and thats why its so hard to division yourself. Ma. Maria why do think Desanti Campaign seemed to have stalled out. He had so much support early on. A lot of people are saying its a personality thing like adam said earlier. I tend to think its not because of that. I think trump is at a level as a former president and recognized person thats hard to hit. What whaps the heat of what happens with the heat of the president ial spotlight candidates get scrutinized. I think the battle with disney is contentious. Those are openings for other candidates to attack. Maria hes been talking about fringe issues. I mean, the wokeism nears the base. Its not the number one issue. I think that ron desantis overstayed the antiwoke welcome. By the time he sort of got over it, started focusing on his record in florida it was kind of too late. He had to cut, what, his Campaign Staff by almost 50 and cut the budget out. I think the window has probably passed for him to take the mantel. He does have a great ground game staff in iowa, the same people as ted cruz had. If he can win there maybe but iowa hasnt determined the president ial election for a while now. Only for obama and jimmy carter basically. I would like to scenic ky hailey distinguish herself see nikki haley distinguish herself again now. Maria she would take on what charisse was talking about the Foreign Policy issues quite well, taking on china, taking a look at the money to ukraine which is the bulk of the fight right now had in washington, how much money should we send to ukraine, thats why they cannot agree on a continuing resolution so far. We have much more ahead. Oil prices are rebounding on tight supply worries. Weve got the word on wall street coming up. Tonight, the second gop president ial debate on fox business, seven candidates with their take on the economy, border, inflation and more. Dont miss that. Well be right back. Maria welcome back im time for the word on wall street, top investors watching your money. Joining me is Payne Capital management president and host of payne points of wealth podcast, ryan payne. Also with us all morning is adam johnson, adam i, i want to kick things off with you. We have a market that is up pretty nicely after that big selloff yesterday. The markets down better than 1 yesterday, the dow industrials down almost 400 because yields, Interest Rates are going higher, yields pulling back this morning but the 10 year hit the highest level in nearly 20 years yesterday, were sitting at 4. 502 on the 10 year and two year at 5. 095 . Your thoughts. Its been grating on me, maria. Ive been in a foul mood over the past week. Clients have been calling, saying whats going on with the market. Its all about Interest Rates. When borrowing costs go up, stocks go down. As you point out, the 10 year yield yesterday above 45 of, the highest in 16 years. That is why stocks are at six month lows. Its upsetting. The irony of this whole thing, maria, as we know, inflation is way down from where it was and ppi was 11 , now its twoish, cpi was 9 and now its 3ish. Inflation is coming down. The fed is effectively pausing. They didnt raise rates last week. They said they may not the rest of the year. Maria they said rates will stay elevated next year. Yes, thats right. Whats interesting is that the market doesnt necessarily believe that. Because if you look at the fed funds futures market, with a 91 of probability were predicting a rate cut sometime in may, april, may, june. You add that up and say why are rates still so high and why are stocks getting cashwere just in this mindset right now. Theres a negativity gripping the market and i feel it, my clients feel it. Were going to get through it. We can look into the futures and see there are rate cuts out there and we still have very strong employment. Well get jobs data this week. But its grating on everybody right now. Maria lets break that down and the reason that its grating on people is because when have you a yield thats giving you 5 or close to it, thats a reason to move money out of the stock market. Thats look, am i going to go with government bonds, with the support and the promise of the u. S. Government or am i going to go in stocks where its a lot riskier. Look, im a longterm investor, i want to be invested for sure in stocks but if you have a yield that youre getting and you get a better return than in the stock market, you know, the risk of the stock market, then why not move money over to fixed income . I think the bigger mistake is most people are sitting in cash. Its like hey, ive got my 5 , why would i move it anywherewithal the uncertainty in the world. And that comes on the installment plan. The bad news comes at once. I think the big mistake is you want to have both. You lock into a longterm bond portfolio right now, if you buy a tax rate portfolio right now you get the equivalent of 5. 8 . Why wouldnt you lock into that for a couple years. Maria or even a portion of your you money. So youre saying im on edge. Thats the reason, because you know that there are now alternatives to stocks. There are. Literally, true story, yesterday some new client capital came into the business and we put some of that to work in stocks and we put some of that to work in three month t bills. Maria there you go. And over 5 . 5 and a quarter. You say, well, i think were going to get through this chop and well be fine out next year but you know what, so were only going to put a third of the money into the Growth Stocks now and the r rest into three montht bills. We get clarity in december, well allocate back to stocks. Dont wait. I respect the fact youre waiting. Here ts other side of the coin here. Earnings estimates are going up, the first time in seven quarters analysts raised estimates. Maria i dont know why. Were about to have an Earnings Period in a week andahalf where were going to hear ceos likely say we dont know, we dont have visibility on 24. I think the visibility is there. I think if you see supply chains are easing, actually margins are actually starting to go up. If youre going to have double digit Earnings Growth the next two years, thats the forecast now, and thats actually being raised. Theyre not negative anymore. If i just do simple on the napkin back of the napkin math, that means the s p 500 at the valuation today will be 5,000 in the next 24 months, dow will be at 40,000, 50 return, better than sitting if cash, better than bonds. Maria i want to ask you about oil. Oil prices are higher again. Concerns of tighter supply. Oil and oil related assets have been the place to be for a couple years as this Administration Pushes the Green Climate change agenda, fossil fuels are doing quite well for investors. Thats a core point of our portfolio. I feel grateful that its there. I think the bottom line is youre getting to a point where youre going to get demand disruption. Every marginal producer can make money at 90 a barrel. Everyone is starting to produce. That will bring supply and demand into ebbing ebbing willi. Maria i thought we were going into a time that oil demand goes up with the weather turning, youre needing eating oil. Not until the winter. The summer driving season is over. Seasonally it starts to taper off a little bit and Global Growth is anemic. We know china is barely moving. Theres a lot of catalysts that could Push Oil Prices down and core pc, that comes out on friday, the feds favorite inflation gauge, that actually should come down as well so i think overall inflations moderating, wages are staying strong, and earnings are going up. Time to be in the market. Maria this is a journal story, talking 100 oil aint what it used to be, will surging prices affect the soft landing. Its complicated. It is. Oil on the one hand is an indicator of demand, higher the oil, it suggests that theres a lot of demand out there. On the other hand, it can be a negative because higher oil can suck up spending power. I know. By the way, that wall street journal article is kind of inside baseball right. Theyre trying to say on an inflation add a justed basis adjusted basis, 100 oil is expensive. Tell that to everyone thats going to the pump and spending 70 or 80 bucks. Maria would you buy oil stocks or oil related assets. Interesting you should ask. Im long one oil equity right now, Energy Transfer partners, pays a 9 dividend yield. I bought this at 3 bucks a couple years ago and now its up to the target, 14 and im selling it. Ill tell you why. Oil right now looks like its breaking out. Maria 91 a barrel this morning. When you have a stock thats gone from 3 to 14, it hit my target so im selling it. Maria thats a nice move. Youre exposed to oil assets. We have an energy component, a commodity component. I think the Inflationary Pressure is not going to go away for the long term. I think the oil story is a longterm story. Maria great to talk with you. Thanks so much. When we come back, lawmakers are racing towards a package to fund the government with three working days left for lawmakers to come up with a continuing resolution that members will actually vote for or face a Government Shutdown next week, 12 01 sun day morning is when the government could shut down. Georgia congressman andrew clyde is here when we come back. Well be right back. Nice footwork. Man, youre lucky, watching live sports never used to be this easy. Now you can stream all your games like its nothing. Yes [ cheers ] yeah woho running up and down that field looks tough. Its a pitch. Get way more into what youre into when you stream on the xfinity 10g network. I dont want you to move. Im gonna miss you so much. Get connected on the day of your move with the xfinity app. Can i sleep over at your new place . Can katie sleep over tonight . Sure, honey this generation is so dramatic move with the xfinity 10g network. Every day, businesses everywhere are asking is it possible . With comcast business. It is. Is it possible to help keep our Online Platform safe from cyberthreats . Absolutely. Can we provide health care virtually anywhere . We can help with that. Is it possible to use predictive monitoring to address operations issues . We can help with that, too. With the advanced connectivity and intelligence of global secure networking from comcast business. Its not just possible. Its happening. I urge strongly reasonal members of both chambers to come together to pass this bridge cr and move forward, freed from the hard right extremists who are hellbent on destroying trust in government. The clearest path forward is a standard shortterm continuing resolution. Maria that was Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer and Mitch Mcconnell speaking yesterday after the chamber vote todded to advance a shortterm funding bill. Florida congressman cory mills said he will vote no on the continuing resolution as did Marjorie Taylor greene. Joining me is georgia congressman, andrew clyde. Good to see you. How will you vote on that 1234. Good morning, maria. I would be a hard no. A continuing resolution that comes across from the senate thats dead on arrival. Anything that continues speaker pelosis funding levels and policy priorities is a nonstarter here. Maria tell me how you get to the other side because i understand the reckless spending weve seen in the last couple years has led to 40 year high inflation and its hurting americans and you want an end to these policies but weve got three days left. Theyve got youve got four bills youre trying to advance in the house. Obviously that is a tall task. And so what about agreeing to a shortterm continuing resolution just to give yourself and your colleagues the time to work on those ayou pro presentations bills . Appropriations bills in. Well, if we had a plan which would show where the appropriations bills, a timeline for all 12 appropriation bills, then i think a shortterm reduction in spending resolution would be an option that includes Border Security as well. I think that would have a chance to pass the house and i think were certainly working on that right now. But our focus primarily is the a appropriations to get the 12 appropriations done. Weve got two left in the committee, cjs and labor hhs to get out and were focused on that in committee but on the house floor were focused on getting the appropriations across the finish line. Maria whats the sentiment about money to ukraine. I know theres been outrage that weve sent 113 billion to ukraine to protect the border in ukraine but we havent focused at all on the border in the United States where youre seeing an overrun situation in texas. Well, i tell you, any supplemental funding for ukraine i would not be in favor of. I would not vote for supplemental for ukraine. We have to look at our southern border and close our southern border. If we dont have secure southern border, we dont have national security, maria, and thats what our focus needs to be right now. Maria it sounds like we will likely see a Government Shutdown on saturday night going into sunday. We might. We might not. I mean, i think theres still time to get something together after we pass these appropriations where we can get that shortterm reduction in spending resolution across the finish line, as long as it includes Border Security. Maria are you talking about the four bills that could advance this week, homeland security, department of defense, agriculture and foreign operations state department embassies . That is exactly correct. Im talking about those four bills right there and then continuing on working through the weekend. I was here last weekend working. Ill be here this weekend working. We are going to get those appropriations across the finish line. Maria what about some members demands that there will be no money sent to people like jack smith, no money sent to persecute your political enemy . Well, that was actually my apledgedment. Thats going amendment. Thats going to be part of the cjs appropriation bill, if we end up with a shortterm reduction in spending resolution, then i will advance those amendment as well in that. I think its critical that we have Election Security and allow the American People to make that decision and not some federal prosecutor, prosecuting a president ial candidate between now and the 2024 election. I mean, they can investigate all they want. They just cant prosecute. That would be the amendment. Maria let me ask you about that. Because weve got blockbuster news yesterday, 260,000 going to hunter biden from chinese partners and the address was the joe biden home on the same day we find a new york judge ruling that former President Trump committed fraud, revoking his business license. It happened on the same day that we learned about that wire of 260,000 from chinese nationals after joe biden launched his 2020 campaign and the beneficiary was joe bidens delaware home on those transactions, congressman. What do you make of it . You cant make that stuff up, maria. I mean maria its true. We have facts and the democrats terrified of this im impeachment inquiry. They should be. Its based on real facts not made up stuff like the pelosi ones were for President Trump. Maria is the investigation into all of this going to stop if you have a Government Shutdown . No, i dont think it will. Congress will still operate. I think well still do these investigations. I dont think thats an option right there either. Maria lauren, jump in. Hey, congressman, Lauren Wright here. Just a question tying immigration and t shutdown. Republicans are holding firm on funding for Border Security which is understandable given the Current Crisis but wouldnt a shutdown be dangerous for Border Patrol agents . A congressional report back in 2019 showed that the last Government Shutdown resulted in less safe conditions for them, 60,000 hearings for Illegal Immigrants were canceled because of that. So how are you balancing those two things . Well, you know, if President Joe Biden would rather have an open border than an open government, thats on him. You know, i think we will deliver here in the house but if he wants to maintain that position that he has of no Border Security, then hes not going to get funding. Maria well, its interesting, elon musk announced his plans to visit the bore doctor in eagle shall border in eagle pass texas this week. You r reacted, elon musk is thee to visit the border before joe biden. Why wont they go to the bore zephyr they want to ignore the number one crisis in the country and that is an open border, an invasion of illegal aliens coming across the border. They want to ignore it. Elon musk isnt and im thankful for that but we have to close the border, close the border. Maria yeah. I mean, one of the first policy changes that this president made was to overturn President Trumps executive orders on the border. Why do you think it is at such a heightened stage right now . Congressman, just the other day 11,000 people came through the border, into texas in a 24hour period. When i went to the border and ive been there five times, plus, i mean, it was 6,000, 7,000, 8,000 a day, 11,000 the other day, according to Border Patrol. We are being overrun, absolutely overrun by illegal aliens coming across our border and the disastrous effect that its having, not just on border communities but all throughout the United States as well. Youre seeing it in new york and chicago where the mayors are complaining about just 100 and few thousand in their cities a ayou loan but yet youve got 12 days of that on the southern border equals what the cities of new york and chicago are dealing with. This is a massive crisis on the southern border and we have got to deal with this. Maria and the cost for that . I know these folks are getting a cell phone, money for nooned schooling and some areas they want to give them drivers license. What is the overall cost to be funding the migrants coming in . It is massive. Its in the hundreds of billions of dollars. It is costing us that these illegals coming across the border. And thats just insane. We need to be spending that money on maintaining a secure border, not an open border. President biden p needs to hear that message loud and clear. Maria and just did a story about how some of our troops are living in squallor. The environment and the conditions that they have to face maybe they need some support as well. Congressman, thank you so much for being here. Well be watching your work. Thank you very much, maria. Great to be with you. Maria andrew clyde is in d. C. Quick break and and bidens borr crisis spirals out of control. Congresswoman mayra flores is here to tell us more. We take you to uaw picket line. Jeff flock is in belleville, michigan this morning with an upt date. Jeff. Reporter im at the gm parts facility where President Biden was yesterday. Take a look at the picketers out here this morning, not quite as many as there were yesterday. Ill tell what you the president said when we come back. Hi, im jason. Ive lost 228 pounds on golo. Changing your habits is the only way that gets you to lose the weight. And golo is the plan thats going to help you do that. Just take the first step, go to golo. Com. Maria welcome back. President biden hitting the picket lines yesterday with United Auto Workers as the strike enters day 13. The president telling workers they, quote, deserve a lot more. Fox business jeff flock is live in belleville, michigan this morning with more. Jeff. Reporter from that g parts facility where the president yesterday visited, maria, this is whats called the old willow run plant, it famously made bombers for world war ii and President Biden heard the uaw president likeen this current struggle to a war like world war ii, only he called it a war on corporate greed. President biden did not, yesterday, say what he supports in terms of what the ua a w is asking for. But he did say that he supports the fight. Youve heard me say many times, wall street didnt build the country, the middle class built the country. Lets keep going. You deserve what you earn and you earned a hell of a lot more than youre getting paid now. Reporter President Trump, former President Trump will be following President Biden to michigan today. He will also be trying to make a pitch to the Union Auto Workers on strike, although he will be speaking from a nonunion parts facility, just north of here in macomb county. Uaw president shawn fain has said he will not be meeting with the former President Trump, will not be attending his event and fain says over the years President Trump has not been a supporter of the uaw and not a supporter of the unions in general. Heres how he put it. And the ultimate show of his how much he cares about our workers was in 2019 when he was the president of the United States. Where was he then . Gm, our workers at gm were on strike for 60 days. I didnt see him hold a rally. I didnt see him stand up at the pickets line and i sure as hell didnt hear him comment about it. Reporter as for the latest on the strike talks, maria, a source familiar with the negotiations tells fox business that ford still remains most active partner in the strike talks, making the most progress there. But no end at this point is in sight. , maria. Maria theyre sticking with their demands of 42 plus percent raise, 32 hour workweek, getting paid for 40 hours and they want money for inflation and the cost of living. Reporter thats what they put out there originally. We havent heard anything lately in terms of where each side is on those demands and the president as i pointed out did not say specifically if he supports those specific demands. Maria jeff, thanks very much. Scan says senator Roger Marshall preparing to introduce a resolution to declare a former invasion at the southern border as illegal migrant crossings are surging. Elon musk announced plans to visit eagle pass, texas this week. He said he spoke to texas congressman Tony Gonzales about the crisis and a he will visit to see whats going on for himself. Joining me is former texas congresswoman and congressional candidate, maya flores. Thank you for being here. Give us your take on the latest state of affairs, just mentioned to another one of our guests that 11,000 people came over in a 24 hour period one day this week. What can you tell us about your region right now . Exactly. We have seen as well over 11,000 people cross illegally into our country in the last 24 hours and its not going to stop. The numbers are going to continue to increase because the Biden Administration along with the house and Senate Democrats are encouraging illegal immigration with their policies and theyre also rewarding them with a status and work visas, why would they not come here to the United States when theyre getting an automatic status and work visa when they get here illegally. The Biden Administration has made it easier for come here illegally than legally. Maria why do you think that is . Why do you think they ignore whats taking place at the border . Were all watching it. Border patrol chief chavez posez posted this picture on x. A 2monthold child was rescued after being abandoned. She writes this is a chilling reminder how children are exploited by smugglers and criminal organizations every day. You posted this picture over the weekend, we blurred it out because its too graphic to show. It shows a border be patrol agent who was reportedly attacked by a migrant cartel informer and the word rat was carved into his forehead. Tell us about these stunning pictures. Our Border Patrol agents are getting brutally attacked because we have less agents in the field and more agents processing and this is going to continue to happen because of the amount of people that are crossing illegally into our country and criminals like this gang member, snitch, will the take advantage of the Current Situation to cross illegally into our country. Its not the first and a it wont be the last, until we secure the border. When i saw this 2monthold baby, it broke my heart, made me furious. Im a mother of four. I cannot comprehend why would anyone abandon a 2monthold baby in the middle of nowhere to be left to die and t thank god r the Border Patrol agent who rescued him. This is not the first r rescue. They do it every day. Maria i know the cartel the need babies. Need kids to make it look like people are a family unit, rather than military aged men coming into the country. So could it be that they needed the baby until they didnt need the baby anymore so they just leave the baby wherever they left the baby . I mean, what do you think is going on and how much money do you believe the cartels are making in all of this . Because theyre the ones, these mexican dangerous cartels, drug cartel the, theyre the ones who adeciding who comes into the america and who doesnt. Your husband is a border agent, right . Correct, my husband has been a border agent for 15 years and maria please thank him for us. I know his work is incredibly tough. I want to get your take on the money that the cartels are making and what is going on that has caused this surge right now. Theyre making 13 billion a year. Theyre a lot better funded than our Border Patrol agents and theyre in full control of the southern border. No one can cross illegally into our country without paying them and youre right, theyre using children and theyre using children that have no parents, theres a lot of children that live in the streets of mexico and these children are being convinced to come with migrants and theyre being told stories that theyll have a better life here and they pretend to be relate offed the migrant. They claim to be related when in reality theyre not related to the children. Weve had 87,000 children that we dont know where theyre at because they came in with a little paper in their pocket, with an address and phone number and 30 days later we dont know where the children are at and that is how we lost track of 87,000 children and the United States is the number one in child trafficking and mexico is the number one supplier and weve got to put an end to that and that starts by securing the border and that is how were going to defund the Mexican Cartel by us securing the border. The state is not the same thing that i grew up in. My grandparents live over there, i have Family Living over there but i dont visit as much because im afraid and thats not just me. Thats millions of mexican americans here in the United States that dont visit their loved ones in mexico because theyre afrayed. Why would we want what were afraid to come here to the United States. Maria do you think cartels are basically running all of mexico . Where does the Mexican Government fall into all of this . Are they working with these cartels . The mexico government has lost control of this. Note going to say that theyre work im not going to say theyre working with the Mexican Cartels but they have lost control. They no longer have control of their country. Maria that makes sense. It breaks my heart, you know, for the people of mexico because theyre not getting the jusjjustice of the government tt they deserve. Maria we were looking at an ad a, i know cartels are running these ads on tiktok and a other social media, saying we need somebody that can drive an 18 wheeler right now you to drive people from the border or eagle pass to houston so youre getting teenage kids getting into massive accidents, killing people because theyre being paid 1,000 a head to become the get away driver for those ads. I want to get your take on whats being done about it. A new poll finds former President Trump is gaining momentum among hispanic voters, 50 of hispanic republicans say they would vote for him in a gop primary. Ron desantis follows in second place, 12 of those people say they would support him. Maya, i know youre running to retake your seat from congressman vincent gonzales. Give us your reaction to the poll and then about your campaign, how are you going to reclaim that seat . It doesnt surprise me at the surge, we have seen the surge here in south texas and support for President Trump and also other republicans and were going to win the seat because were focused on the Kitchen Table issues that the American People care about, Border Security, the economy, education, you know the Democrat Party is wanting to take parental rights from us. If we dont support gender ideology, they want to take away the custody of our children and this is happening in states like california but if we allow more democrats to get elected in congress and in the senate, theyre going to put in policies at the federal level where theyll have more control of our children and theyre our children, not the governments children and i believe that were going to win because, again, were focused on Kitchen Table issues and the values of the Hispanic Community along with the Republican Party of faith, family and hard work. We just have to keep on investing in the Hispanic Community to continue making the surge toward the Republican Party. Maria these are j just stunnig issues. Well be watching. Thank you for being here. God bless you. Maria quick break and then the second gop debate is on, its tonight. Brian brenberg is at a diner in iowa right now, talking to voters about the issues that are impacting them that they want to see changed. Brian.
