Plus this, the coronavirus in the United States, 6 people dead in washington state. We are taking a look, g7 vice ministers as economies hit around the world. President trump cutting for the Federal Reserve to cut Interest Rates as the virus spreads and slows down the economic story. First, focus on retail, target and kohls reporting this morning. Watch any impact on coronavirus. Mornings with maria is right now. Maria we will start with markets. We are hitting rock bottom levels after a 52week low yesterday, check out the yield at 1. 159 . This is extraordinary numbers here and probably will lead to an increase in lending and borrowing. We will take a look at the impact there in europe this morning, stocks following the u. S. On a rally this morning and hopes that Central Bank Action, the markets are reacting to the idea that we will see a global central move in terms of global Central Banks getting together in tandem lowering Interest Rates. Cac quarante in paris up 128 and in asia overnight, weakness in japan. The others mixed fractionally moving. Today japan confirmed new coronavirus in tokyo. Some of the stories that we are watching this morning at least 2 people are dead this morning in nashville after tornado roared through city in nearby communities. The powerful twister bringing down multiple buildings severely damaging several others in eastern and downtown areas, all nashville metro schools are closed today as crews clean up after the storm. Pope francis reportedly testing negative for coronavirus after a cold forced him to cancel Public Events and there were a lot of questions about that over the weekend as the virus is being blamed for 6 deaths in the seattle area as the United States is urging more testing for the highly contagious illness. Four of the victims are reportedly elderly or had preexisting Health Conditions or both. President trump met can pharmaceuticals in washington to help how to curve the coronavirus deadly path. There are now 3,000 deaths and more than 8 t thousand coronavirus 8,000 coronaviruses and the company says the growth could be 2 and a half to 3 and a half Percentage Points lower than predicted. The company will cast until april. Social media giant sitting this year south by southwest conference in austin, again, because of coronavirus. Googles cloud next in San Francisco and microsoft mvp summit are being canceled. Both being turned into Digital Events and looks like Benjamin Netanyahu will appear his job, it appears that netanyahu has been challenger bennie gantz. 90 of the votes have been tallied this morning. Within 2 seats of winning fifth. Markets this morning are rallying once again. Positive tone s p right now up 24. Investors betting that Central Banks can stabilize the markets or certainly stabilize the economy as it slows down as a result of coronavirus. All major indices with best 1day point record at yesterdays close. Payne Capital Management ryan payne, fox business Dagen Mcdowell and media reporter for the hill joe concha. Good morning. Maria hills of such weakness, are you buying it . Dagen i think its choppy days ahead because businesses literally are stopping all investment in hires plants. Boom, it happened in a matter of days where they cant see the future. This isnt your typical demand shock where lower Interest Rates and more money being pumped into global will spur and manufacturers across the globe cant get even parts. Not just finished goods but parts coming out of china. Yesterday what triggered the rally was the bank of japan jumped in and bought a record amount of exchangetraded funds, equity etfs, 940 billion, so these are extraordinary moves that these Central Banks are making, but i will point out today there was no follow through in the japanese market, still down 1. 2 in overnight trading, so, again, theyre going to be some choppy days ahead. Maria a move that a lot of people were speculating that the ecb would be making one kristin lagard came in. Maybe she will start coming and buying equities. We have been waiting in europe. Is that a real stimulus long term . I dont think. I think the fact that they are not doing that, we dont really need much more stimulus, what else are we going to do here . Maria dont forget the Federal Reserve was first, jay powell comes out and says that im open to making a move, markets will be focused on that meeting now until march 17th, until we get more clarity in terms of what happened next, of course, it is super tuesday in america today, 14 states are headed to the polls to pick a democrat nominee for president. Former Vice President receives a ton of endorsement. Griff. Griff hey, maria, here in colorado theres 67 delegates up for grabs of 1,357, the first time in 20 years colorado has had a primary instead a caucus. Sanders won here in 2016 by 59 and it is a imagine that hes bringing again this time, young people are picking up and supporting him. Listen to this. It is no surprise, they do not want me to become president because our administration will transform this country to create an economy griff but it is clear that Many Democrats are rallying around biden making his candidate to stop sanders. Twoterm mayor gave this endorsement. Its clear that the one person who will build a coalition has a long chance that deceiting a president that has brought chaos and dysfunction to this nation and right now its joe biden. Griff now biden has not spent time or money here in colorado very much. That, of course, will be against him. Although when we hit the streets we did find not everyone is feeling the bern. Im going to vote for Mike Bloomberg, mainly just because i dont like Bernie Sanders and i feel like hes the most qualified candidate to defeat him. Im voting for bernie because hes the leading candidate in my opinion on Climate Change and medicare for all. I dont like how essentialistic views are. Its between him and trump, im voting trump. Griff bloomberg spent time here and Warren Holding on. Its unclear whether its a twoperson race or 2person race in colorado. Maria. Maria Griff Jenkins on the ground this morning, lets get your reaction joe concha. Is it a night to feel the burn . Yes, it is. Right now i look at the polls, indexes polling averages, california, texas, all the big states Bernie Sanders is very well positioned particularly in california he will win very big, i dont care about endorsements. I remember 2016, Hillary Clinton out of 59 newspapers got 57 endorsements to Donald Trumps 2. That got her a concession speech and set of steak knives. I dont care that other establishment likes joe biden, Bernie Sanders will have a big day tonight. Maria what happens to joe biden if he doesnt take tonight . He stays in the race because hes the only alternative but hes the key to get Michael Bloomberg out of the race for joe biden. Dagen he raised 10 million in 2 days, joe biden. It goes away if he loses. Dagen secondly, bloomberg to your point does hurt joe biden in these primary races because he is more of a moderate, if you will, democrat now, was independent. He pulled votes away from joe biden when you need you need two choices, not four. Maria i like all the dealmaking that obviously is going on and the way social media has reacted, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar stepping down before super tuesday. Somebody wrote, they must have read the art of the deal because do you think they agreed, look, i will get out of the way and maybe you will give me a job in your cabinet . Quid pro joe. Maria hold the thought. We have to talk about Mike Bloomberg, hes the big unknown, we will talk about that come up. We are just getting started. Remembering a legend, we are looking at former chairman ceo jack welch, a dear friend of mine, the friendships hes forged throughout his career coming up. Maria welcome back, markets are extending yesterdays big rally driven by hopes of Central Bank Action, australia cut Interest Rates overnight. President trump tweeted this in reaction. Australia Central Bank Cut Interest Rates and stated it would more likely further ease in order to make up for chinas coronavirus situation and slow down. They reduced record low, other countries are doing the same thing if not more so. Our Federal Reserve has to pay higher rates has us paying higher rates than many others when we should be paying less writes the president. Tough on borders and must be the other way around, should ease and cut rate big. Jarome powell, led Federal Reserve has called it wrong from day one. Sad, writes the president this morning. Joining us ubs private wealth adviser allie mccartney. If we were to see a cut in Interest Rates, what is that really going to do and do you want to see negative rates in the u. S. Because the president talking about negative rates but we know it hasnt gone well to other places . I think you articulated the biggest fear in the market is im not sure what further easing from the Federal Reserve does to dagensen point a supply problem and will continue to create volatility but blunts our tool set for when we do actually get to the end of what has been the longest bull market and gdp expansion we have seen. Dagen with the 10year yield, 1. 03 overnight. Closed at 1. 08. Its up this morning. But because the fud fund rate is so much higher, its 1 and a half, to 1 and 3 quarters percent. The fed does need to cut, maybe its caking a waitandsee approach as the 10year picks up. Yeah, i think that probably what the Federal Reserve is doing and all doing is trying to watch the movement in the 10year as a guadalajara of fear and decision for Institutional Investors to get into something thats basically one, i dont know that we can go there given the regulations and the rules that existed. Maria good point. So i really think that we have to be cognizant about the tools that we have. China is a great example. They have come in not only physical stimulus but with monetary on the other. I think its some combination at some point. Maria yeah. G7 countries working on statement for financial lenders but does not include call for new government spending, does not include coordinated Interest Rate cut, the statement is expected today and tomorrow. As we have been reported Steven Mnuchin and g7 leaders to try to come up with a response, economic response of coronavirus. How closely are you watching that, what comes out of this call . I think the markets are watch ing it and i think the results are largely priced in, every economic power, g7 and beyond has made it really clear that they are going to be supportive of continuing this expansion and to taking this shock and trying to minimize it. So i dont think its probably largely priced into the market. Again, i dont know what else can be done and i dont know that that gets anybody on a bus to a conference in an airplane, hiring to dagens point, i think its almost its a show of faith but i dont know that it ultimately changes the gate that we are in. Maria i hear plans of Corporate America to move supply chains thank america. That will be a calming effect but that doesnt happen overnight. No. Maria you know, we we are expecting thats going to be more expensive for the companies by the way, before you go, your tshirt, i fund women, whats that about . Maria welcome back, it is super tuesday in america, that means 14 states heading to the polls today to pick a democratic nominee. First time Mike Bloomberg will be on the ballot. Mark, good morning to you. Maria, good morning to you. The polls open here in virginia about 25 minutes ago, we will be looking to see what turnout is like and what that means enthusiasm among voters but also interesting for former new york mayor Michael Bloomberg who has invested a lot of time doing well in virginia. He even launched campaign not too far from where we are in rv beach back in november. Hes been pitching himself as a moderate, alternative of people of Bernie Sanders and talking about issues like infrastructure, something that we heard a lot four years ago, here is what he had to say on fox news last night. Next time youre standing waiting in the runway for half an hour to take off youll see how bad we are. Next time you drive a car down the road and you bumping on every pothole, roads are falling apart and we are not investing in infrastructure. Now bloomberg is jumping on the same band wagon is sanders is as trying to raise taxes on the wealthy. He will stay in this race no matter what happens today in virginia when it comes to Bernie Sanders or joe biden. Hes also made it clear hes eager to take on President Trump this fall, in fact, hes attacking a company that President Trump often talks about. This is what he had to say last night. I think the economy is stranging changing dramatically. Amazon is paying low taxes, i dont know why that is, maybe because they get Big Investments an get tax credits for that. Amazon should be paying their taxes. Now, theres 99 delegates up for grabs here in virginia. Maria, open primary, we will be looking to see what the results will be when polls close several hours from now. Looking at turnout right now. We have seen 20 to 30 people make their ways as they get ready to go to work, strong turnout here at the precinct. Maria mark meredith, thank you so much, sir. We will check in later. Mark meredith joining us there. Be sure to watch fox business super tuesday coverage tonight at 8 00 p. M. Eastern. I will be there looking forward to navigating the amazing races tonight. Join us live tonight on fox business. First, though, the coronavirus in the United States. President trump is calling for the Federal Reserve to cut Interest Rates as the virus spreads and hits the economy hard this as we are watching markets this morning, futures indicating another gain this morning as the dow snaps a 7day losing streak yesterday and continues the momentum this morning with another gain of 138 points right now. Plus gaming on the silver screen, find out which video games are most wanted for the movies. Back in a minute. And. The road beside. Did we mention the road ahead. With an available best in class. Epa estimated combined fuel economy and the technology to practically park itself. This is the reimagined 2020 ford escape. Maria welcome back, good tuesday morning, thank you so much for joining us. Im maria bartiromo, it is tuesday march third, top stories right now 6 31 a. M. On the east coast. Markets are higher, the momentum continues with the gain of 160 points on the dow industrials right now. This on top of the dow, nasdaq and the s p 500 yesterday, scoring their largest oneday point gain ever. Record performance up 1,293 points on the dow industrials. The momentum continues, a base of oversold condition last week and you also have this idea that global Central Banks will move in tandem lowering Interest Rates. European stocks higher across the the board on the hope that the rally means that the Central Banks are going to start moving. Cac quarante in paris is up 91 points and dax index in germany up by 248 points, right now better than 2 in asia overnight, markets more of a mixed story, japan was lower down one and a quarter percent. The others fractionally moving, target reporting quarterly earnings. Ashley, over to you. Ashley all right, maria, good morning to you, okay, we have for target, let get right to it on earnings per share coming at 16 on 169 on adjusted basis, revenue coming auto23. 4 billion, just a hair shy, we are looking for 23. 5 billion, but digging into the numbers, we have the gross margin coming in for target at 26. 3. That is down slightly from the last quarter where we saw just over 30 on the margins. The margins are critical right now. Comp sales 1 and a half percent. Thats about in line of what was expected. The comp Digital Sales up 20 and target is saying that Sameday Services accounted for 80 of its Digital Sales growth. That is the area that has seen the biggest growth. So they are still looking for the fouryear guidance, 670 to, okay, that is say that again, charlie . 670 to 7 a share, about in line, so the estimate was 6. 87. Right in line i would say, maria, so overall target coming in, this was one of the few stocks in the last Earnings Period to have stiller performance, stronger performance, i think, overall here in line with what was expected but the growth is coming from the digital side and, of course, would be interest asking the commentary on what they said about the coronavirus and how that could hurt Consumer Confidence and ultimately the amount of sales that could be hurt because simply are not going to be shopping during this spell. Maria thats the issue. I think thats why we are so focused on the guidance here. Firstquarter guidance. Low single signatures is the company saying versus estimate of up 2. 7 and then you the whole year guidance between 155 and 175. The stock is lower in premarket but the Comp Store Sales needed to be better in order to get some better reaction rather than just flat on compstore sales as well. Theres that as well. Ashley exactly right. I mean, overall not bad. We have kohls coming up at the top of the hour. I think we will see a very different picture, much more challenging environment for kohls, target has a ton of cash on hand and digital growth is very encouraging, but, yeah, these numbers i would say flat. Maria in loin with estimates at 1 and a half percent there. Ashley, we will get back to you when we get the kohls numbers. Ashley very good. Maria ashley, thank you. Meanwhile this is u. S. Is taking action after china puts restrictions on american journalists, Cheryl Casone with the details there. This story just gets worse, cheryl. Cheryl it is something else, maria, good morning to you. State department will begin limiting the number of journalists from chinesestate run media that would be allowed in the United States. The state Department Says its in retaliation for how beijing treats foreign journalists. Earlier this month 3 wall street journal reporters were thrown out of china for their reporting on xi jinpings handling of the coronavirus. Well, back here at home msnbc host Chris Matthews abruptly retired last night of two decades on television, made final appearance on his show hardball after finding himself in center of Sexual Harassment accusations. Complements on a womens appearance that some men including me might have once thought were incorrectly okay and were not okay, for making such comments in the past, im sorry. Cheryl matthews came under comments comparing Bernie Sanders campaign to nazi germany as well. His show hardball will have rotating hosts until a replacement can be named. Apple paying to settle lawsuit. Twentyfive dollars per phone. Apple has denied any wrongdoing in the lawsuit. In the hills of sonic, hedgehog success, what video games fans want to see turned into movies. Get this super mario brothers and pacman, honky congress, grand theft auto and call of duty. Recall the 80s when there was super mario brothers movie and it wasnt very good. [laughter] maria i would like to see more pacman around. I happen to love pacman. Cheryl i loved pacman in the 80s. [laughter] maria im with you, i love pacman. After pacman invent ms. Pacman. [laughter] maria thats right. How do you make a movie, by the way. Maria girl power, thats right. Super tuesday has arrived. Third of pledged delegates are up for grabs as voters head to the polls in 14 states today, joe biden gaining key endorse meants yesterday from Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar as they both dropped out of the race for the white house. Beto orourke also endorsed biden, so youve got 3 of his former competitors. Candidates needs to secure 1,990 delegates. Pete buttigieg dropping out of the race and endorsing joe biden. I dont think that their supporters are going to flock to the former Vice President. Hes still going to have to compete for their votes, but this did two things which were very critical ahead of super tuesday. One it gave joe biden some free media that he really needed and kept him in the spotlight and 2, what it does is it goes to Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchars donors and says, hey, the embargo on joe biden is over, feel free to donate to him to keep him alive past super tuesday. What he needs to do is actually get a win tonight somewhere. Maria its hard to see Amy Klobuchar do a 180 on us. Come out and say, vote for joe, just last week shes telling us why shes the best candidate. Was there a deal here . Did they basically say, look, i will step away and i agree to step down if im a member of your cabinet . Well, the whiplash here we are all feeling it because it happened so suddenly. Obviously politics is something that is transactional. We will be learning more about that later, but certainly, you know, i think that a lot of these a lot of the candidates are motivated by two things. First they dont think that Bernie Sanders can actually beat donald trump and second, they are selfinterested politicians. I wouldnt be surprised that there was dealmaking going on. Maria thats what President Trump thinks as well and i just you have to love this strategy of right before people go to voting booth, hes there giving a rally. The president took aim at Democratic Candidates last night at Campaign Rally in charlotte, North Carolina, listen to what he said about what we are talk about right here, watch. Mayor pete, he quit out last night and i hear senator from state we are going to win, we are going to win that state but she dropped out, sounds like they made a deal, you know, they both supported sleepy joe. You know why . They made a deal. You know why quid pro quo, thats why. For sleepy joe, he doesnt know where he is or what hes doing or what office hes running for. Maybe he gets in because hes more moderate. Hes not going to be running, they will put him into a home and other people will be running the country. [laughter] they are going to be super left radical crazy. Maria wow. I will say the president just says throws it out there. I mean, look, lets not forget joe biden, what did he say yesterday, tomorrow is super thursday . Yeah, joe biden is a big target and the president certainly has a lot of jokes. I was in charleston in South Carolina and i was talking to some of the president supporters ahead of final rally there and they told me one of the things they were looking for is hearing him give new nicknames to the candidates. They wanted to hear him mock debate performance and one of them told me its better than snl. I dont think that we can discount the entertainment value here that trump brings because, you know, you dont know what hes going say. Maria right. He has been going to iowa ahead of their caucuses, to South Carolina, now following the democrats around, so that there is that contrast and while while they havent solidified around one candidate, hes free to take shots. Hey, philip, its joe concha with the hill. You have been covering joe bidens campaign for months and we were talking on the panel before, can you after all the months define what joe bidens Bumper Sticker message is because i still cant. [laughter] no. Thats incredible by important here because think about what happens when he leaves new hampshire, he gets on a plane and he flies down to South Carolina before results are even reported and he says, the early states, the other early states dont matter because they dont look like real america. Im here in South Carolina and we need to hear from latino voters and africanamerican voters, and thats true but what joe biden didnt follow up with inspirational speech. Im joe biden and not Bernie Sanders and i was best friends with barack obama. Maria thats every debate, philip. What a waste of time to not hear any policy proposals or talk about the actual substantive issues and instead just have everybody on the debate just say this is why im the one to beat donald trump. America needs more than that. Yeah, now that the field has we will see substantive argument there, but i was talking to former democratic in North Carolina, the question is he can turn momentum today and stay relevant by finishing above 15 . Maria we will know tonight. Thank you, sir. Coming up we are keeping an eye on coronavirus. We are introducing you to one Company Working on a vaccine this morning. That is coming up and then we are watching markets, of course, futures indicating another rally at start of trading. Day 2 of gain after the market snapped 7day losing streak with huge rally, better than 1200 points on the dow. Then ladys night, how much women make compared to their partners . We are checking that out when we come back. 1 in 3 deaths is caused by cardiovascular disease. Millions of patients are treated with statinsbut up to 75 persistent cardiovascular risk still remains. Many have turned to fish oil supplements. Others, fenofibrates or niacin. Its likely that therapies will be available vaccine is actually ready and will seek to bring all effective treatments to market as soon as possible. Some very good work has been done on the vaccine. Maria that was President Trump yesterday speaking with top pharmaceutical executives weighing in on the race to prevent and treat coronavirus. Biotech company giovaxx is working with wuhanbase, david, great to have you this morning. Thank you very much for being here. Thank you, youre welcome. Maria walk us through the realities of a timeline. Yesterday in the meeting the president was optimistic that we could see therapeutic, some kind of therapies on the market, perhaps as soon as april, but that a vaccine would be a year or more down the road. Whats your sense, where are you with your efforts right now . Thank you. I believe the president is correct that therapeutics will be introduced and begin to assist those people infected with coronavirus much sooner than a vaccine and all. We are actively working on a Coronavirus Vaccine and as you indicate, we are working with bravovax, in late january we had established agreement, collaboration, so to speak with bravovax recognizing that our capabilities with the unique platform that we have with developing and designing vaccines and their capabilities of being able to manufacture and more importantly perhaps proximity to chinese cdc, fda and regularular authorities can accelerate the process of moving the vaccine forward. Maria why is this strain of this virus so deadly . Well, first of all, we are just learning a lot about this particular virus and thats always aage. Whenever we are confronted with such a what is referred to our industry a disease x type of virus, there was limited most understanding, its a major challenge. Sars was that way, that was in 2003 and it came and it went and we never had a successful vaccine completed. Maria yeah. Or introduced and it eliminated and right now we and other companies, coronavirus fits right into it, working on demonstrating that our platforms for those of us who have such platforms are applicable to infectious decided such as covid19, we are working on that also. Maria let me squeeze in the question, go ahead, ryan. This is ryan pence from pence capital. Well, it works for us it works very well. We are working with a partner that was introduced late last year. Began the discussions of a general collaboration in january. Immediately focused on coronavirus as the outbreak occurred. We are speaking with them or communicating with them on a daily basis as one might imagine. Maria okay. They are quarantined and so we have them 24 7 essentially. Thats why we are working together and they share with us and we share with them. Maria good to know. We, of course, wish you the best of luck on this. Stay with us. [ fastpaced drumming ] [ fastpaced drumming ] its our most dangerous addiction. And to get the whole world clean . That takes a lot more than an alternative. So we took our worst vice, and turned it into the dna for a better system. Materials made from recycled plastic woven and molded into all the things we consume. We created bionic and put the word out with godaddy. What will you change . Make the world you want. Maria welcome back, time for the morning buzz. First off, ladies night. Half of the women make the same or more than partners. Women make up half of the workforce. Still huge departure from 1960s when only 3. 8 of women were considered the breadwinners. They are the breadwinners today. Whats wrong with that, by the way . Maria, i got married 10 years ago and my wife is making more than i was. Maria 10 years ago . About even now quite frankly. Were looking at another rally in the stock market, the dow industrials right now up 158 points, these twothirds of 1 . Nasdaq up 67, s p 500 higher by 13, on top of a big rally yesterday, all three major indices up big, all posting their largest oneday point gain ever on record. That was 1,293 points higher for the dow industrials, 5 rally yesterday on the heels of that drumming the markets took last week. Voters are hitting the polls in 14 states, a third of pledged delegates up for grabs today. This as former Vice President joe biden gets the backing of former owe pon opponents and mie bloomberg appears on the ballot for the first time. The coronavirus in the United States, six people are dead in washington state. G7 finance ministers are meeting today as the virus hits economies across the world. President trump is calling for the Federal Reserve to cut Interest Rates as the virus spreads and also slows down the economy. Focus on retail this morning, target beat profit and same store sales expectations. However, the numbers are shy on revenue estimates as a result of that, that stock is lower on the heels of its Fourth Quarter reporting this morning. Target shares down 1. 06, almost 1 . Were waiting on kohls coming out in just a moment here. We will bring you those numbers, watch for any comment on the impact from coronavirus. Starbucks adding new drinks to its menu. We will have those numbers and those drinks coming up. Mornings with maria is live right now. And we want to get a check on Global Markets this morning. European indices following the u. S. Rally on hopes that we will see global coordination on rate cuts across the world. The fq100 is up 113 points, one and three quarters percent. Cac in paris is up 88, dax index higher by 240 points this morning in germany. Again, better than 2 in germany. Overnight in asia, markets were more of a mixed story, japan was lower by 1 and a quarter percent, japan has confirmed today a new coronavirus case in tokyo. Lets get to ashley webster. The kohls numbers are out. Ashley, over to you. They are indeed. For kohls were expecting earnings per share of 1. 88 on adjusted basis, coming in at 1. 99, so a nice beat there. Revenue a beat, the estimate was for 6. 52 billion. This is interesting because kohls Third Quarter Earnings Report was frankly dismal. What we can tell you, though, is their same store sales were flat which is what was expected. In fact, the estimate was for down a tenth of a percent. The full year outlook on comp sales or same store sales they say up 1 . Down 1 . I would call that flat as well. They called 2019 a disappointing year, saying the Financial Results did not meet our expectations. Gross margin they expect for the rest of the year is going to be down 10 to 20 basis points. But again, overall on the headline numbers doing very nicely but the outlook looks rather flat to slightly lower. Maria. Maria this is what we keep seeing. It really is the outlook that is unnerving investors, the stock is down 3 and a third percent as we await this g7 call where we will have the finance leaders from across the world get on the phone together to try to figure out what to do about an economy that is expected to slow and thats what were hearing from all of these retailers this morning. Target, kohls, basically looking ahead and saying, well, we are expecting the consumer to pull in. Even though you had good numbers on kohls, stock is down better than 2 right now, ashley. Yeah. Theyre all saying its all a similar story, head winds, and in particular the unknown of the coronavirus, what it does for the consumer and how long is it going to be around and affect their bottom line. Maria well keep watching that. Stock down 2 as we await any details coming out of that g7 call and some solutions from the finance executives across the world. Some of the other top stories were watching this morning, at least two people are dead in nashville this morning after a tornado roared through the city and nearby communities. Pope francis reportedly testing negative for coronavirus after a cold forced him to cancel several Public Events and had many people across the world speculating about what is going on with the pope. Ithe virus is blamed for six deaths in the seattle area as the u. S. Is urging more testing for the highly contagious illness. Four of the victims were elderly or had preexisting Health Conditions or both. President trump met with pharmaceutical executives yesterday at the white house to discuss how to curb the virus deadly path. Fda commissioners said we could see up to 1 million completed coronavirus tests by the end of the week, so expect the numbers of people infected to start climbing in a big way. Federal officials are reportedly careless with initial diagnostic tests, possibly putting americans at risk and of course thats why we didnt know who had it and who doesnt have it. The tests are now effective and we will start hearing the numbers confirmed. There are now 3,100 deaths and more than 90,000 corona cases across the world, 67 countries have been affected so far. Thrill seekers are under the impression theyre going to watch a cartoon when things really get going and they get going fast. The official ride opens tomorrow. And it is a high stakes super tuesday today, more than 1300 delegates are up for grabs tonight. The prospective nominee needs nearly 2,000 to clench the democratic nomination and take on President Trump come november. The commander in chief says he is staying confident, blasting the democrats march left policies last night at a rally. Watch. Theyve embraced an extreme left wing agenda. Their plans would massively raise your taxes, destroy our liberty, muzzle our faith and erase our sovereignity. You know that. The Democrat Party has gone crazy. The insanity of washington democrats is why millions of registered democrat voters are joining our movement. They are joining our great Republican Party. The Democrat Party is a party of high taxes, high crime, unlimited regulations, open borders, late term abortions, socialism, blatant corruption, and the total obliteration of your second amendment. The Republican Party is the party of the american worker, the american family, the american dream, and the late, great abraham lincoln. Maria joining me right now is aarizona senator, also a retired u. S. Air force colonel, martha mcsally. Thank you so much for being here. Good to see you. Maria lets assess the field here with super tuesday. What are you expecting tonight . How important are these races tonight to indicate who will be up against President Trump come november . Well, let me first say i totally agree with President Trump in what he just said, that was a great summary of whats going on. While we are united as a Republican Party, with President Trump on the ballot, the democrats appear to still be in chaos and panic mode as they lurch to the left with the extreme policies that are out of the mainstream. Im not going to predict what will happen tonight but there certainly is a scramble here. Either way, whoever emerges tonight and potentially in their convention, i think theyre going to have a real problem in 245 days, the most consequential election in our lifetime. Because what is at stake around the country and what direction we want the country to go in. Even if its joe biden, their policies remember when they raised their hands saying free healthcare for all illegals, thats out of touch with arizona and america. Maria let me ask you about arizona, your state not part of super tuesday tonight. Whats going on in arizona, is it turning purple . It is not. We are right of center, we are independent. We have california refugees leaving because of failed policy. We believe in equal opportunity, lower taxes, strong border, strong military. Its an honor to represent arizona. Were ground zero to make sure the Senate Majority does not flip. Thats why its consequential that we are united. Our first vote will be for chuck schumer. We need to make sure we stop the agenda from happening. Maria thats a good point. People are thinking more and more about that. Let me ask you this. You are a veteran. Thank you for your service to our great Country First of all. Pentagon chief mark esper giving the green light to withdraw troops from afghanistan, after the United States signed a peace deal with the taliban, ending a nearly two decade long war in afghanistan. Are you buying this, that the talibans going to be honest with us and actually keep promises in this peace deal . And i say that in quotes. And whats your take on mark espers decisions here . Well, maria, i deployed to the middle east and afghanistan six times. I was in saudi arabia on 9 11 and part of the team to plan the initial operation in afghanistan. Here we are 20 years later, so a few principles. We have to protect our Vital National interest and ensure we never allow terrorists organizations a safe haven like they did before 9 11 to come attack america. Number two, we cant keep our troops there forever. My fellow service men and women have shed a lot of blood in afghanistan. Its time for the Afghan People to stand up and to protect themselves, to govern themselves, provide opportunity. But im deeply concerned. I dont trust the tall want theres 12 taliban. Theres 12 other terrorist organizations in the region there and safe havens in pakistan. Lets see how this goes. It should be conditioned based. Im concerned about enforcement and verification. But weve got to protect americans first, needs be our main principle. Maria what you just said is so incredible to me, that 9 11 is 20 years ago. Youre right. Next year, 2021, its going to be 20 years since 9 11. Thats incredible, senator. Do you think that there are the right preconditions in place for this peace deal with the taliban . I mean, what are going to be the metrics that youre watching to see if theyre on track to keeping their words about things. Im very concerned about it, like i said. I think weve had Mission Creep over the 20 years, i think we lost our eye on the ball, trying to bring afghanistan into a 21st century republic or democracy as opposed to protecting americans. In this case, ensuring that its not continuing to be a safe haven for alqaida, isis, that would then be able to grow and threaten americans is the key. But how were going to verify that is vital here. Who is going to verify and how are we going to identify those conditions as they negotiate with the afghan government, with a safe haven in pakistan still. Maria thats the word, vair fishings right there. Senator verify, right there. Good to see you this morning. Markets are rebounding today once again, stocks are moving and moving big after all three major indices reached their highest point gains ever yesterday and today were looking at the momentum continuing, up 269 points on the dow industrials, nasdaq up 93 right now. Then this, starbucks rols starbt new beverages, well take a look at whats blooming this spring. Spring is three wakes away. Well be right back. Thats how i want it. A little less conversation and a little more touch my body. Because im so into you, into you, into you, when i lost my sight, my biggest fear was losing my independence. Mmm. Good. So ive spent my life developing technology to help the visually impaired. We are so good. We built a guide that uses ibm watson. To help the blind. It is already working in cities like tokyo. My dream is to help millions more people like me. Maria welcome back. Coronavirus still making a big global impact. Six people are dead in washington state. More than 100 cases in the United States. Vice president mike pence calling for all hands on deck. Joining me right now is the ceo and president of the Cleveland Clinic, dr. Tom mahalivich. Thanks very much for being here. Thank you very much. Maria lets assess the situation. You say this disease is not as deadly as some of the News Headlines are suggesting. Tell me how you see it. Well, the way we see based on what we know so far is that in most people who get affected by virus have very mild or no symptoms. However, there are people who can develop a serious condition and those are typically elderly people or people who have underlying medical issues. Maria let me ask you about the people who have been affected. Its very interesting to me to see that no one under the age of 14 has contracted this. Whats the story in terms of who is most susceptible and are children actually not getting it here . What can you tell us . Maria, youre absolutely right. Were very fortunate about the fact that this particular virus does not seem to affect children. Certainly, children could get infected but they do not get seriously ill. Most deaths have been reported in elderly people, over the age of 70, and people who have a serious underlying medical condition and chronic disease, such as diabetes, lung disease, and so on. Maria give me the tips to make sure that we all need to understand in terms of preventing this. What can be done to lower the chances of the virus spreading. Because we know were on the doorstep right now of a lot of new cases being reported in the u. S. These numbers are going to go up and theyre going to go up big. I completely agree with you. The numbers are going to go up and the best thing that we can do to prevent the spread of the disease is the things that we do to prevent the spread of flu. Cough while covering your mouth and nose when the person sneezes, avoid touching your face and nose. Be very judicious about your hand hygiene and stay at home if youre ill. It is really important for people if they were to feel an onset of symptoms to stay at home so they can minimize the risk of spreading the disease to others. Maria what are you doing at the Cleveland Clinic this morning and these days about the supplies of medical supplies and drugs that are produced in china that now were not getting . I reported this weeks ago on this program that one of the hospital officials that i speak with often told me they were waiting on plastic gloves, masks. They were supposed to come from china. Theyre not coming. China says it needs the product, theyre going to keep them there. And then its incredibly stunning and really disappointing to see that 80 of the active ingredients of our prescription drugs, things like antibiotics, are made in china. Fortunately, so far we have not experienced any delay in or shortage of medication or protective equipment. So here at the Cleveland Clinic, we have been very judicious in preparation for this upcoming outbreak. So we have sufficient supply of gauze, gloves, masks, as well as medicines and we have not experienced any shortage. Maria is that on the hou horin at all or go i it might be. Depends on the extent of the disease outbreak. One good thing about the medical community, we all Work Together. So theres a very good communication among Healthcare Provider as well as suppliers across the country. Maria i interviewed Vice President pence on sunday and he said, look, expect more cases. Should we start getting worried when we see perhaps cases in the thousands in the United States in the next couple weeks, now that the testing is underway . I dont believe that there is any doubt that were going to see more cases. Maria okay. Yet, i do not think that we should be terribly worried because we have really, really good and mature Healthcare System in the United States and we should feel very fortunate about it. The capacity of our Health System is large. We have a large and qualified and coordinated Healthcare Workforce and i have every confidence we will be able to act appropriately. Maria we will leave it there. Doctor, its good to see you this morning, sir. Thanks very much. Thank you very much. Maria tom is the ceo of the Cleveland Clinic. Super tuesday, voters headed to the polls with a critical vote upon us. What is at stake coming up. And we had two major reterrells reporting this morning, targets Fourth Quarter earnings the stock is down one andahalf percent and kohls quarter better than expected, up almost 10 on kohls. Stay with us. Back in a minute. I was waiting for an indication. It was hard to find. No matter what i say, only what i do. Never mean to do bad things to you. E 448,134 to be exact. It is super tuesday today, that means a third of pledged delegates are up for grabs as voters head to the polls in 14 states. Its a big night. Joe biden gaining keye endorsements from Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg. They dropped their own bids for the white house and endorsed biden. Beto orourke also endorsed the former Vice President yesterday. To endorsement yet from president obama. A candidate needs 1991 delegates to secure the delegation. Joining us now, the author of persuasion, lee carter. What are you seeing tonight . Everything we thought was going to happen, all bets are off right now. I think we thought that sanders would have a good night tonight. Im not so sure. The big question is where are klobuchar and mayor petes votes going to go. A lot of people are saying theyre going to go straight to biden. I dont think thats necessarily true. Because if they were going to go to biden, they already would. A lot of people felt like he was past his prime and he had lost it, he wasnt the candidate they thought he was going to be. All those votes are going to stay home . Are they going to go to bloomberg . Are they going to go somewhere else . Certain states will be at play that werent at play before. Im looking at texas in particular where 11 points or 13 points depending on the polls youre looking at are now at play that werent at play before. So it used to think that sanders had a Comfortable Lead with five to seven points. Now i think thats at play. Look at colorado, massachusettes, utah, all of those were squarely for sanders, now i think theyre at play. Do you find it ironic that the woke party, the Democratic Party of 2020, its remaining its remaining candidates, the ones that have a shot, are three old white guys with biden being the youngest of the three. It is ironic. [ laughter ] when you put it that way, joe, yes, i think its a little ironic. I do also think its sofas nateing, though so fascinate, though, Bernie Sanders has got a huge amount of momentum by people saying hes antiestablishment, this system is rigged against him. The move thats happened over the last few days where everybody is coalescing around biden, bernies base could get energized by this, they could say enough is enough and were going to go out there in droves. If he gets the intensity of support, he could win beyond what we expect to see. Its going to be a very close night, some interesting races to watch. I think texas will be one of the most fascinating races to watch. Maria texas is red or dagen its more southern than western. Is how i would describe texas. Its magenta. Dagen it has a large percentage of latino votes and sanders has the latino vote wrapped up. Its impossible to force feed a candidate if the candidate is completely unappetizing to voters. When you talk to voters, when you talk to folks who said i wanted to like biden, on paper, before i saw him on the debate stage, before i saw him make his case, i thought he was a different candidate than he is today. Right now he seems to yell, he gets frustrated, cant make his case. They want someone who they think is able to win. I think a lot of people hoped that bloomberg would come up and be the one that can make the case and he could be the one that could win. Theyre seeing him and thinking wow, he doesnt seem very energetic or exciting. Maria its all about who they think can take down donald trump. Thats exactly right. Maria not about the policies, not about this is why this person wants to be president , this is what hes going to bring to the table. Were going to be talking with you a lot, lee carter. Thank so much. Watch fox business live super tuesday coverage starting tonight at 8 00 p. M. Eastern. I will be there, im looking forward to this. Do join us. First, retail in focus this morning, we break down target and kohls Fourth Quarter earnings, the stocks are certainly telling a different story this morning. Plus, starbucks rolls out spring beverages. See whats blooming next on set. Back in a minute. howling wind howling wind howling wind howling wind maria welcome back. Good tuesday morning, everybody. Thanks so much for joining us. Im maria bartiromo. It is tuesday, march 3rd. Super tuesday. Your top stories right now, 7 3. Markets are bouncing this morning, take a look. We are looking at a strong showing at the start of trading this morning, adding on to yesterdays historic rally, dow industrials set to open up about 300 points this morning, nasdaq up 111, s p 500 currently up 27. This on top of the dow, nasdaq and s p 500 yesterday with their largest oneday point gain ever. Dow industrials were up 1293 points yesterday, the nasdaq was up 384 points, on average 5 rally across the board for all the major indices yesterday after the drumming the markets took the week before. Global markets, european stocks higher on the hopes that a Central Bank Action will be coming. In other words, the global coordinated move by several Central Banks to lower Interest Rates. Fq100 up 153, cac in paris up 124, dax in germany up 347 right now. Asian markets were mixed overnight, worst performer was gentlemajapan. Death toll from tornadoes in tennessee is rising. Cheryl casone with details now. Cheryl thats right, maria. Seven people confirmed dead from powerful twisters overnight, dozens of buildings damaged in nashville, power lines are down and schools are closed. A tornado watch has just been lifted in the state where voters are heading to the polls for super tuesday. All voting locations in Davidson County will open an hour late now at 8 00 a. M. Central time. President trump is set to meet with a group of republicans today ahead of a congressional vote on expiring surveillance authorities. The gop now split on whether to pass an extension with some looking to use the opportunity to overhaul the system. The meeting is going to include rand paul and mike lee as well as attorney general william barr. The current Surveillance Authority expires march 15. In an effort to keep employees safe during the coronavirus outbreak, twitter is telling thousands of them to work from home. Company says its operating out of an abundance of caution. They employ about thousand 9,. It still may be winter in most of the country but for starbucks its time for spring. The coffee chain rolling out new flavors starting today. They are iced pine apple macha, featuring green tea, ginger and pine apple. The beverages have coconut milk and you have got them onset. Let me know how they are. Maria i chose the ginger one to try because i like the ginger shots at another retailer. Who has the ginger shot . Theyre really good. Thats just pure ginger. You can taste the ginger. Pineapple. Dagen thats super sweet. Maria too sweet. Dagen thats even sweeter. Maria very sweet. There must be sugar in this. Dagen i think theres a little bit of sugar in this. But also pineapple is a pineapple gives it sweetness too. You could do gin here also. Dagen that would cut the sugar down. Macha should taste like freshly mown grass and that does not. Maria spring is three weeks away. Its coming. We are focused on retail earnings and certainly thats going to be a positive. We are waiting on breaking news right now. Were waiting on the g7 statement. Well see what the g7 leadership on the finance side say about the economy and whether or not were going to see new stimulus coming into the economy, an economy that is clearly showing us that we are expecting slowdown. Target missed on revenue this morning. Same day Digital Services accounted for most of the recent growth at target. Kohls beat on revenue and earnings per share but it is bracing for potential negative impact due to the consumer coronavirus worry. It lowered expectations for 2020 and that is why basically were waiting on the g7 call. As soon as we get headlines on the g7 statement that is about to come out well bring that to our viewers. Lets bring in to the conversation right now, burt flickiflickinger. How would you say todays retail environment is faring . The winners are the ones who invest strategically the most in inventory, selfdistribution, own warehouses and trucking and continuous replenishment. Thats why target missed because it outsources distribution. The flicks picks for winners, walmart self distribution, lowes, bjs wholesale club, perfect in terms of replenishment. If you look at the stores being wiped out, its also noticeable today the best suppliers are helping the best retailers. Color rocks, fan clorox fantastic numbers you reported earlier. Whether its them or their competitors, disinfectant wipes, bleach, everything maria its a good point, yeah. C George Gordon taught Us Public School students back in buffalo, everybody should wash his or her hands, 30 of people arent washing hands. Theres great conge consumer aws from Vice President pence, the president , dr. Fauci so clorox will win. Lowes will get there. Kohls, michelles Great Partnership not only with Planet Fitness but with aldi is getting people in to buy bleach and consumables along with clothes. So thats one of the reasons kohls is accelerating too. Maria let me ask you, burt, were waiting on statements out of the g7 leaders and what were hearing from the g7 leaders is that they are reaffirming this pledge that theyve got all tools necessary at their fingertips, that they are ready to put whatever is needed into this economy. So lets hypothetically say we get a rate cut from the Federal Reserve in two weeks, march 17th. Lets say hypothetical we also see similar moves in europe, in asia, we already had australia cut rates overnight by the way. Does that give a boost to the economy . How does that change your outlook . Rate cut will help. People are still a little bit scared but coming back from the Memorial Service of the vfw for late, great Vietnam Combat vet bill winslow, he was fantastic on retail detail, ikea was packed, walmart was packed, the supermarkets were packed, chain drug was packeted. So retail for people who want products, they have to have, that those five sectors from category dominant from lowes to price impact, bjs, costco, walmart, those will do well. The nondiscretionary, the department stores, specialty stores, theyll struggle. But also, maria, as you reference, spring is coming. With recall wasser weather, it will be with warmer weather, it will be tougher for the disease to spresme spread. Its already in arizona. As the warm weather comes from the south to the north, that will help Consumer Confidence as the disease spreading slows down. Maria im questioning the weather thing. Singapore is on the equator and youre still seeing cases there. Im not buying this whole idea that just because spring is coming, coronavirus cases start lessening. From my work in singapore, as you know well, people are closely congested. Easier for crosscontamination. Here, people are sensible, using purell disinfectant products responsibly, not traveling, slow in the u. S. Consumer confidence as bob mead said in kiplinger it will slow the economys growth by half but it will still be positive across the u. S. Maria we have a statement out from the g7 and theyre reaffirming that theyve got all the tools in the toolbox, but theyre not offering any specific action. I want to look at the markets because just a minute ago markets went down on this g7 statement. Were looking at a gain of 132 points a minute ago it was up 85. Im wondering if theres something in the statement that is actually turning investors off. Im not so sure. I think as we talked about earlier, i think the stimulus is already priced into the market. We already know that governments are going to stimulate. I dont think thats a big deal. I think what were starting to realize is the economys strong. And it may be a little bit of an overreaction. The fundamentals of the economy didnt change on a dime in seven days. Theres a lot of reality coming back that were in a really good place and i think the market is starting to reflect that. I can see a vshaped recovery here. Maria you do . Absolutely. Dagen with the supply shock and the demand shock, that traditional stimulus probably wont be able to fix this and i mean monetary stimulus. Listen for growing talk of fiscal stimulus from these governments. Jonas mack ferris talked about this yesterday. Particularly countries take that have a lost room that havent been spending, like germany for example, where they would have money available to step in with some sort of fiscal program. Because the United States, this will illustrate the danger of running pushing our deficits up to 1 trillion a year and borrowing money hand over fist to spend it when times are good. Because then what powder have you left dry when times are tough . Maria you have ecb chief Christine Lagarde yesterday saying that shes ready to support the eurozone economy against the virus impact. You had fed chairman jay powell said the same thing. Yet this phone call today with these finance leaders across the world is offering no specific action in terms of how to deal with this. So its where we were. I mean, yeah, sure, you could cut rates but is that going to do anything, as dagen has to dagen no. Maria thats why the markets going down. Were up. Dont get me wrong but were well off of the highs. Dagen i do think the Federal Reserve will have to cut Interest Rates. You have yesterday of course the yield is up a little bit so a little bit of selling in 10years. It closed at 1. 085 . 1. 08 , the fed funds rate, the overnight lending rate is at 1 andahalf to 1 and three quarters. So that number absolutely must come down. I think the Federal Reserve is taking a wait and see approach to see if some of the volatility washes out of not just the fixed income and treasury markets, but also stocks. The sentiment on the ground from last week to now is palpable, maria. In other words, seems like more facts are replacing fear and the panic for profit model that was employed by many in the media last week, suddenly the impact isnt what it used to b i think people see this isnt the global killer that we think it is, when you compare it to the flu, 80,000 People Killed in the winter of 2018 in this country alone and then they see the death toll here and they dont see it rising exponentially, people are saying you know what, maybe this is just another version of the flu, its bad, we should Pay Attention to it but its not what we thought it was when it first started. Maria the key finance ministers are promising theyre going to Work Together to provide stimulus. However, in this call this morning, no specific action, markets losing some momentum right here. Pete, how you doing this morning . Good morning to you. Reporter maria, im doing great. Its awesome to bon you be on y. Minnesota is an epicenter for super tuesday. Amy klobuchar dropped out and endorsed joe biden. Bernie sanders had a big rally last night. The question is where do Amy Klobuchars voters go . A lot of klobuchar voters have already voted because of early voting. Im here with siri andly ya. Who are you supporting this morning. Im supporting elizabeth warren. You are, why . Shes a special ed teacher, she cares, shes a tremendous fighter. I think thats someone we need on our side. Reporter who do you of Amy Klobuchars voters, she had almost 30 in the last poll. Where do they go . I think they get split between biden and warren. I see a lot of people that are just ready for something new and so that would be more of a warren. But then i see people that want someone steady and thats also maybe biden. Reporter i know youre supporting warren. What issue animates that support the most . Why . Number one has to be about economic justice, income inequality is out of control and thats a lot of the reason why democrats and republicans ultimately are dissatisfied because their pocketbooks arent reflective of the growth were seeing in the stock market. Reporter there you go. You heard stock market invoked there. I know youre talking about that all morning with the big gain yesterday but what siri said to me, expect surprises in minnesota. I think thats the way a lot of us feel. Thanks for having us, maria. Maria thank you so much, pete. Great reporting as always. Petwe are remembering a business titan, ill share my memories with jack welch, thats next. Stay with us. Theres a company thats talked to even more real people than me jd power. 448,134 to be exact. Remembering a business icon, former General Electric chairman and ceo, jack welch, died yesterday at the age of 84 years old. Joining me on the telephone is bob wright, former ge vice chairman, one of the men who worked closely with jack welch, probably the closest for literally 20 years. Thank you so much for calling in this morning. Its good to have you. Maria, thank you for having me. Maria condolences to you. You and i worked with jack for a long time. You were right there, his righthand man. What was it that made jack welch as successful as he was in terms of two decades of unparalleled growth for ge . Well, he was he had incredible stamina, enormous. I dont think i ever saw him sleep. When we would travel, when he would travel, he could get off a plane and he had every second marked out to do something, some activity. He was tiresome. People would when we traveled with him, we got exhausted. We couldnt take it. Maria yeah, i mean very intelligent. Maria the way he was in terms of gettingtraveling all over and getting the team motivated, he actually got other people to work hard as well. I have with me, bob, a couple of notes that i received from jack. Jack, i have a lot of notes. And we all know that when you got a letter or a note card from jack welch, like i did several times, i brought two of them in, it made your day. Talk to me about this, bob. Because i know that early in your career you got notes as well. But this one note, this was in may of 1997 and he wrote, dear maria, congratulations on the wonderful newsweek story. I know the new show will be a great success. Nice going. Jack. I mean, when i got this in the mail, all it did for me, bob, was say oh, my god, my boss boss boss just sent me a note, i want to work even harder for this company. I want to work really hard and do even better. Thats what these notes did. He loved loyalty and he when he saw people that were really good and they really acted good, he was the happiest person in town and he would send you a note. Now, he would also send you a note if it was negative. But maria i never got any negative notes. I only got you didnt deserve any negative notes. Maria heres another note. He wrote me a note just to tell me he read an article about me in swing magazine, again. So he was among the people who sent me down to the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, bob. Remember those days, those early days of cnbc when i became the first person to broadcast from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Jack felt like there was ownership there. He loved it. You had to climb up the stairs, remember . Maria yes, exactly. Climb up the stairs to the New York Stock Exchange. Go ahead, sir. When he sees somebody that has talent, thats really doing he gets so proud of having people like that around him and he certainly he was a great supporter of cnbc and he was a great supporter of nbc. But that was he had to be careful with that one because of a lot of the shareholders didnt like it. He loved it. Maria thats right. He just urged my on and urged other people on. It was the ability to have that much energy. Maria i brought in my book, the ten laws ofe of enduring success. He didnt want you to see the world as half m he said i want optimism. Right. If people didnt have that ability, he would find some kind of nice way to suggest that maybe they should do something else. Maria youre right. Great to hear from you this morning. Thank you so much. Sending you my best regards. We probably will never see anybody with this much energy. Reminds me a little bit of donald trump. Doesnt sleep either. Maria thank you. Well be right back. Thank you. Maria welcome back good tuesday morning, everybody. Thanks for joining us. Im maria bartiromo. Tuesday, march your top stories right now 8 00 a. M. On the east coast, on the button. I think admission that at least in terms of strof Central Banks monetary stimulus wont do a heck of a lot to solve the problem at root as supply shock about factories throughout china being shut down, because you have longer term Interest Rates 10year treasury so low so much below the overnight lending rate the frl funds rate set by central bank you will still probably see the, a cut by the Central Banks a lot of this falls on government, not just in terms of signal stimulus but how quickly can all nations get their hands around this virus he we aassure public that it is not as not as deadly as say a sars but it is not ebola people certainly in new york city acting like ebola. One of the things that is really detrimental to economy global are corporations literally slammed brakes on hiring and spending plans, until they get some clarity certainty they are not doing anything, that is a shock no central bank can quite frankly fix. Asset allocator i look at a it gift from gods at the end of the day we know economy strong. He do we . We dont know that market last week told you it is not strong, i mean. A practice what i preach g7 statement you said no specific action, what does that mean. Q. That is ambiguity, leads to uncertainty uncertainty means you have been doing this a couple days now, street doesnt like that seeing reaction that we are without a specific plan, this is why they are these are not stupidest stupid people Steven Mnuchin may paul with a statement hits market immediately reaction negative, because this statement doesnt tell me anything. Dagen not their job to do the market that is one of the we kind of gotten into this world where the president United States likes to tweet about the market. Of them particularly when it is record highs when it is going up. It is really about trying to fix a shock thought economy supply side on demand side as well i think i point toip bank of japan intervention it intervened in a record amount of money, spent almost 940 billion dollars almost a trillion dollars buying stock funds on monday gave futures the stock market a lift here yesterday. But what happened was, that that euphoria wore off in a day, the nikkei in japan fell more than 1 1. 2 today i think it goes to not a whole lot Central Banks can do even governments can do right now, to wipe away the uncertainty in the worry. I think really important to remember what ceo Cleveland Clinic told us earlier in the program yes, we are going to see a big increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the United States. But no, it doesnt necessarily mean that we should be worried that we are going to see a significant number of people die, because they have about about therapies coming we are hoping for vaccine could take more than a year markets backandforth no certainty infers market on heels of g7 statement you have to believe g7 statement did not do the what it was intended to do by Steven Mnuchin and jay you powell it is super tuesday in america 14 States Holding primaries voters picking a democratic nominee joe biden former restrictively lastminute boost chris in denver. Good to be with you. What do you think you have steep politics, for a long time, and have been a student of these elections for a long time do you think there was a deal in place would Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg accept down say we will step down, but we will endorse you if you know part of your cabinet . Seems very clear there was a deal you had South Carolina on saturday, and you already have been in race months and months what is another three days you know you you take chances super tuesday as joe called them super thursday at the end dropped out i think because you are seeing the antibernie winl wing doing everything to stop bernies momentum you want to see, these candidates probably taking votes from the joe biden than anyone else drop out to endorse him maybe trying out for joes v. P. Nod bernie has momentum momentum does mean a let in primaries. Maria o congressman i want to ask you about the economy, right now. And we are i will get back to super tuesday in a second the g7 out with a statement this morning, you know you know that market rallied 1200 points yesterday on dow, this morning we were looking at sizable gain as well. Until the g7 statement came out year looking at gain start of trading this morning the markets but well off the highs, basically because they all came out, and they reaffirmed commitment to use all appropriate policy tools to achieve Sustainable Growth didnt have action, they didnt say that they did not see that they would actually do anything, about it, so a it looks like more pr than anything else i think that is the way the market is seeing it will. As someone as yourself who really was involved in tax cut legislation that moved the needle on Economic Growth you and your he colleagues with that tax cut rollback in deregulation the president led what do you want to see . The president calling for rate cut from jpmorgan chief commitment lower xpgdz for growth in 2020 coronavirus having impact on economy as well as healthy do you want g7 ministers to boost Economic Growth what are you going to do about it. You know market react to uncertainty clearly he what coronavirus still a lot of uncertainty, because there is not a known vaccine we still findings out more information how it is coming into our country like so many other countries are seeing. But at the end of the day, President Trump has taken it very seriously put Vice President pence in charge of coordinating all federal agencies to make sure doing what they can getting together yesterday with pharmaceutical companies today the president is going to meet over at nih to talk to people that are involved in trying to find a cure and working with companies so look, there is uncertainty with this but like everything markets ultimately the individual stocks crisis should be based on fundamentals the economy very strong, are there is a lot of Growth Opportunities but right now country is facing the uncertainty of this virus that other countries are experiencing as well in the end, i think we are going to get through this, the economy is going to continue to grow Even Stronger than it is right now. I know you are involved in the fisa move at hearing today we will talk with you about that as well, good to see you this morning sir thanks so much. Always good seeing you well be right back. Thanks very much for joining us your members want a portfolio can w looking to make nearterm kneejerk reactions, how do they see things. Our members, went into this with about 12 cash all entrepreneurs built businesses over long periods of time you cant build a business without weathering storms like this being prepared. Only 23 exposure to the market to begin with, last year was the best year that theyve had, we had 18 returns across the board less than market case we only have 23 market exposure. As far as yesterday deadcat bounce what people are talking about deadcat bounce when markets were negative you said you bet they end positive so far you are right they turned around. Contrarian i think more vshaped bounce why do you think deadcat bounce. One day reaction, our all members not traders a few in groups meet around the globe had idea to short the market a month ago ago great trade up 400 on puts but what they are looking for if longterm betts if you look at business like delta as an example a disastrous quarter, but longterm hold if you take the best businesses any industry, rather than trading around this this is an opportunity for buying, on the dip. Back in a minute. To lean on all you need is a body to lean on. Maria welcome back markets back up you take a look we are expecting a tripledigit gain start of trading, it has been a volatility morning earlier, the markets started the day very strong, momentum continuing from yesterdays rally, but then went negative as soon as the g7 posted a statement on the coronavirus crisis, offering no concrete action, markets went negative then turned around again and now are showing a gain start of trading this morning, Kristina Partsinevelos on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange looking at volatility today. Maria on nose no concrete action i read one analysis note saying that this g7 statement adds little to the statement that came out from the Federal Reserve last week, the statement from International Monetary fund, the statement from world bank and statement from European Central bank, there has been words i quote reaffirming continuing to support standing ready but little in terms of actual commitment nonetheless like you mentioned seeing a little bit of a rebound focus on two stocks earnings came out retailers we know retailers have been hit hard kohls, kohls did have earnings and profit beat sales beat the probe with kohls weaker holiday sales despite launching several new lines the company did announce an increase of dividend by 5 , then we switch over to target you are seeing shares, eh tad higher 109, and 50 cents target did beat earnings but revenue fell short that is because of weaker sales of Toys Electronics home goods over holds one area doing really well may not bode well for amazon target same day services picking up in store have increased and that accounts for quite a bit of revenue so we are going to start to see more and o more push from all the players out there, samestore sales, pick up store or delivered to your house. Maria all right Kristina Partsinevelos, on wall street with dow up 130 points, elon musk comes to the defense of jack dorsey Cheryl Casone with details. Cheryl we have to have it now i know i need that he is a problem. Thank you looks really beautiful, those, turn to 2020 voters headed to the polls we are more than 1300 delegates up for grabs democratic candidate field narrowing mayor Pete Buttigieg senator Amy Klobuchar endorsing former Vice President joe biden, after each dropped out of the race, biden joins former new york city mayor bloomberg in a matchup trying to prove they can beat frontrunner senator Bernie Sanders, bloomberg joined fox news for town whal here who is a he said about sanders. I do not think Bernie Sanders has the right ideas for this country. I dont think that he can beat donald trump because i dont think the country wants revolutionary i think country wants ev illusionary sanders is a revolution kind of guy. What is your path . Joining me right now House Armed Services Budget Committee member Bernie Sanders president ial national cochairman california congressman ro khanna always a pleasure thanks so much for being here. Always great to be on. Maria i want to ask you about the happenings, in congress, in a moment the policy decisions that are going to be coming out of this week, i know youve got important meetings but what do you make of the treatment of Bernie Sanders . Look at the cover New York Post today, stop him joe. Basically saying look, you got to stop Bernie Sanders from moving forward, Amy Klobuchar endorsed him Pete Buttigieg endorsed him, you know youve got the party Hillary Clinton saying nobody likes Bernie Sanders he is hard to work with, in the 2016 there was collusion do you think they are colluding against bernie. Only helps the more they attack him more organize against him more voters actually say we want change Bernie Sanders is just playing to common sense making sure everyone gets education, health care, you know Student Loans so we are going to have a great night today i am confident Bernie Sanders is going to be in the lead and dcoe dont pick president s voters do this is where he is doing well. Maria congressman let me push back on that because you said Bernie Sanders policies are common sense. Common sense . To come up with medicare for all going to cost 30 plus trillion dollars, common sense that you are going to wipe away, the Health Insurance from 170 Million People who currently use it . Common sense that you want to raise taxes . And take the corporate rate much higher . Of course, one of the reasons that it moved the needle on Economic Growth . Let me just say this, i mean it has the party lat form since 1945 single payer until 1980 a lot of people supporting from harry truman fdc john f. Kennedy jimmy carter won on it countries like taiwan has more Economic Freedom signing other payer systems that work i believe i believe that it will reduce cost unleash Economic Growth if you have everyone with health care more entrepreneurs but these are ideas we can debate, the point is the polling with overwhelmingly shows democratic a electorate supports medicare for all. You have this idea of Big Government, i i mean Big Government programs mow you going to pay for all you this . Has bernie come out with a plan in terms of paying for medicare for all other than raising taxes on top 1 . That is not you know that is not going to cut it. He has. He acknowledges it. Raising prices on everybody. No raising taxes on he having corporations paying less under a payroll tax than they currently pay you know about a third of the payroll for verizon at t on Health Care Costs these are not Health Care Companies they would pay less if a payroll tax the current cost they are paying in premiums. And reality is that Bernie Sanders actually if you go, has outlined how he is going to raise revenue in every single case talked about wall street tax talked about certain cuts in this overseas, so not that he doesnt have pay for he has specific payfors we debate whether they make sense or not but recall there. I want to move on in a second i want to guess at business at hand you are doing in congress, but when you say is a he wants to tax wrote aers top 1 tax corporations these are not in a vacuum when you tax corporations something has to give Companies Paying more taxes hiring fewer workers when you tax wall street people something has to give not spending the money they were spending, rich people spend money. Rich people hire people. So there is you cant look at tax increases as a oneoff there is all implications to all of this as you know, congressman. I agree very quickly, the if you talk to a lot of ceos they will tell you, the single payer will help them talk to at t, ask how much is he paying in payroll on Health Care Costs one biggest costs of outsourcing has been health care a sangr disadvantage it would make us more academy of, 58 jobs in this country are private sector jobs only 15 Public Sector jobs Bernie Sanders isnt talking about radically changing that just saying having policies that make markets work better make fundamental investments human capital. How come the establishment is afraid to get behind him how many establishment Democratic Party doesnt like him. He is taking on a lot of interests taking on, pharmaceutical interests taking on insurance interests taking on some donor interests. All right he we will watch that tonight exciting tonight i know you are going to be right there congressman let me ask you what else you are doing the congressional leaders rushed the pass bipartisan coronavirus emergency funding package expected between 7 and 8 billion dollars the administration originally asked for 2 1 2 billion to fight outbreak both sides of the aisle pushed for more intense prevention efforts, how much should it be . What that is money going to pay for . Maria i said we should not politics i said 15 billion, 2 of defense o budget think about that for National Security pay for make sure everyone who wants testsdz can get tested just a case you look on twitter someone in seattle, called in, thinking see that has coronavirus was told she cant get tested because she hasnt traveled overseas been in tack in any case ridiculous make sure everyone can get tested Everyone Wants to get treated can get treated we need that vote. Put people like dr. Fauci in charges politicians out of the way let scientists get the program. I agree on defendanting lets not look at this in in rosecolored glasses as soon as we do testing numbers are going way up about the number of people in u. S. Who have coronavirus and what a scandal what happens with fda they sent test kits to the 50 states called them back said wait dont test them because the tests are defective . I know, it is unbelievable. It is unbelievable look one of the things that differs us from china transparency numbers go up numberss go up we are a globing we believe truly a developmental in evidence i believe we have cable people dr. Fauci others nih cdc give them resources legality them do tests numbers be what they are i am confident our system will be able to deal with it what messes it up if politicians get in the way.
