There are so many different forms of education in America but one unique experience that Black college students opt for is that of attending an HBCU.
An HBCU is a historically Black college or university. Any college that isn't an HBCU is considered a PWI, or predominantly white institution.
There are major differences between the two types of schools that account for why some young Black students would rather attend an HBCU. Fayetteville State University is a public HBCU that was founded more than 150 years ago.
Fayetteville State University senior Ashley Stewart originally attended a PWI, where she says she felt less significant.
