The Dallas Mavericks released the first public details on Wednesday about a January crash that left former NBA player Shawn Bradley paralyzed.
Bradley, a 7-foot-6 center who played for the Philadelphia 76ers, the New Jersey Nets and the Mavericks, was struck from behind by an automobile as he rode his bicycle a block from his home in St. George, Utah, on Jan. 20, he said through a statement released by the Mavericks.
The crash caused a traumatic spinal cord injury that left Bradley paralyzed and in need of neck fusion surgery, which he has spent the past eight weeks rehabilitating from in a hospital. Bradley is "in good spirits," according to the release, and plans to help bring greater public awareness to the importance of bicycle safety.
