ELLWOOD CITY – With a turbulent start to the second semester, education and support staff at the Ellwood City Area School District are ready for some shots — of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, of course.
Gov. Tom Wolf announced last Wednesday that the state will prioritize Pre-K-12 public and non-public school staff to receive the newly approved Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, and some faculty and staff at ECASD will be among the first to get it.
"I'm just happy that our staff can get these shots," said Superintendent Wes Shipley.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the state has been slotted to receive 94,600 doses of the vaccine. Those doses will be distributed to state intermediate units based on the proportion of Pre-K to 12 school employees in each IU's region, and site operations will be overseen by the Pennsylvania National Guard and AMI Expeditionary Healthcare LLC.
