East Lansing seeks muralist to fill 'blank, gray' wall downtown
An unloved wall in downtown East Lansing could soon be no more. 
The city's arts commission last week issued a request for qualifications for a mural to fill the southern facade of the Albert Avenue parking garage, a 53-by-23-foot space towering over M.A.C. Avenue.. 
Residents and students hope for something that represents all members of the sometimes transient community, home at various points to college students and workers in the nearby state Capitol. 
"(It should have) something to do with the people and incorporate the Spartan colors — green and white — (but) make it more abstract and on the artistic side," said Gabrielle Tirey, who attends the neighboring Douglas J. Aveda Institute. "There’s already artwork of Spartans everywhere."
