Lt. Col. Tina Madovoy, assumed command of 1st Battalion, 265th Air Defense Artillery Regiment,164th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, from outgoing commander, Lt. Col. Robert C. Bellomo, during a Change of Command Ceremony at Camp Blanding Joint Training Center, Fla., Friday April 30, 2021.
The 1-265th is “a cohesive and combat-ready battalion of air defenders,” said Col. Sean T. Boyette, commander of the 164th ADA BDE, while commending Bellomo for his leadership. “Your leadership has provided them with the experience required to protect our State and Nation.”
It is no doubt Madovoy is assuming command of a truly experienced battalion. Soldiers with 1-265th ADA BN have honed their air defense skills through extensive training and an arduous operational schedule. In 2015-2016, they were the first National Guard unit mobilized to Afghanistan responsible for operating the Counter-Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar (C-RAM) system. In 2019-2020, Bravo battery deployed in support of the European Deterrence Initiative (EDI), providing short range air defense for maneuver elements in Germany and Poland. In addition to multiple mobilizations in defense of the National Capitol Region (NCR), they have mobilized for numerous State Active Duty missions over the last 40 years; most recently in 2016 for Hurricane Matthew, in 2017 for Hurricane Irma and in 2018 for Hurricane Michael. Currently, Soldiers with 1-265th are serving across Florida in support of COVID-19 response efforts.
