Devery Jacobs, championing Jonny Appleseed by Joshua Whitehead, wins Canada Reads 2021

"I felt a lot of pressure. I feel like I'm representing so much more than myself in this competition. I'm representing communities. I'm Mohawk. I'm also queer...it's also representing two-spirit and Indigiqueer communities in this. So it's so much bigger than myself and I just feel so humbled and so honoured to have been a part of this and now to call
Jonny Appleseed the winner of Canada Reads."
The runner-up was 
 which tells the interwoven stories of three Nigerian women, Kambirinachi and her twin daughters Taiye and Kehinde, who are torn apart by a traumatic experience. 
Jacobs won in a 3-2 vote on the final day.
