VIROQUA –McIntosh Memorial Library of Viroqua will be hosting the third annual adult winter reading program in 2021. Adults are encouraged to stop by the library lobby beginning Monday, Jan. 4 to pick up a participation bookmark. Through Friday, Feb. 26 participants are asked to read or listen to three books and to record that information onto the bookmark. The completed bookmark should be returned to the library in exchange for a winter related prize. Everyone returning a completed bookmark will be eligible to win the grand prize. The grand prize drawing will be held Monday, March 1. The program is supported by the Friends of the McIntosh Memorial Library. For more information about this program, contact the library at 608-637-7151, like the ‘Viroqua library’ Facebook page or visit www.mcintoshmemoriallibrary.org… Santa will visit the children in Coon Valley on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. Due to the coronavirus and the need for social distancing, Santa will have a drive-thru visit with the children at the Coon Valley Legion Hall, 105 Park Street. The youngsters will receive a treat bag sponsored by the Coon Valley American Legion, the Coon Valley Lions Club, and the Coon Valley Conservation Club…At their December meeting, the Vernon County Buildings and Facilities Committee discussed furnishings for the office of the new county administrator, when hired. Building supervisor Phil Hewitt announced at the beginning of the discussion that he had found everything that was needed in going through surplus equipment except a desk chair. The committee approved purchase of a chair… Vernon County was chosen to receive $9,893 to supplement Emergency Food and Shelter programs in the area. The award was granted by the FEMA Wisconsin State Set Aside Committee. The board was charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the country.
