We come here today with an we come here today with an opportunity to say to america we see you and hear you. I experience your pain. And one year, seven times as an elected position and this body trying to get into the Chamber Office building on the congressional side, i understand some part of what too many have experienced. This Police Reform legislation does that and provides clear opportunities for us to say not only do we hear you, not only do we see you we are responding to your pain. Because we in america believe that justice should be applied equally to all citizens with no exception. And when we see exceptions it is our responsibility to do something about those and this legislation helps us get there. We received the letter from senator schumer on the other side saying there were five things about the d justice act my response is simple lets have the amendments if we can get on these two sides of the chamber and we should do that in the legislation i met with other senators. On the other side who said there are more than five things that we need to have a conversation about. I said lets include an amendment for every single issue you have. They did not stick around for that meeting so mr. President. My concern is that 80 percent just wont do and that friends on the other side will not take advantage of this opportunity to say to those that are sufferin suffering, we see you, we hear you, we are willing to respond as one body. Mr. President , i am for all of us to vote for the motion to proceed so if there are recommendations coming in the form of the amendment i offer as many as necessary and to be seen by the public in consultation with the other side let it be there bill not tim scottsville not the republican bill. Not the democrat bill. And the bill that starts to address that plagued the nation for decades i started five years ago to find those that would push forward reforms brought to attention by the Walter Scott Shooting in 2015 i respect people that i disagree with they have a right to disagree was told i have the right to be wrong. But on this one, if you dont think we are right vote for the notion to proceed so we have the opportunity to deal with this very real threat for the america with its balance.
