LUSAKA, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Cooperating partners on Wednesday welcomed the Zambian government's commitment to holding democratic and credible elections.
In a joint statement, the governments of Australia, Canada, Japan, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States hoped that the August 12 polls will be conducted in accordance with the country's constitution and in line with international standards such as the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections.
"We look to all Zambians to commit themselves to the principles of democracy, good governance, rule of law, and the respect for human rights, as enshrined in the Zambian constitution," the statement said.
