a roadmap continues with the retail wreck continuing, gap, foot locker and ross stores all on the move after earnings. and more on the latest on the disappearance of egyptair flight. first up, stocks are poised to open higher a day after the s&p touched a two-month low on concerns the fed might hike rates next month, or in july. the dow and the s&p on track for its fourth consecutive weekly loss, that s the first such streak since october of 14. the nasdaq on pace for its first five-week streak in the red since 2012. yeah. interesting to put in perspective the month we ve had. money pouring out of the market worse actually, these guys talking on squawk box worse than 2008 and 2009. people concerned it s not just one hike, it s multiple hikes. i don t know how that conversation comes back on. that s scaring people. earnings just so-so. geez, it s just kind of a subpar picture, i think. really? even with the economy essentially the fed saying it s essenti ....
were in their height, the number of private security contractors outnumbered the us troops. how did that come to be? again, i think we are like that one of the unintended consequences of relying on the all volunteer force and allowing the country to slide into a condition of permanent war. we ended up with too much work, too few warriors and so policymakers and the pentagon turned to the notion of defense contractors to try to fill the gap. at a very high cost. at a very high cost and i would argue with little evidence that they that they were worth the money. i know you re going to stay around and sign some books i want to thank you, colonel, professor,. you know, we barely scratched the surface of this book, so i really encourage you to pick up a copy and you will have a very in-depth although somewhat pessimistic understanding of the wars of the middle east. thanks again. wondered what would happen, was a very positive experience. what about boston at that sometime. yes. boston was mixed. by and large, going to boston i had read about paul revere and his ride some lexington and the concord battles and the boston tea party and also crispus attus was the first black to die in the revolutionary war. so i went to see the memorial for hem on the boston common. so i soaked up the hoyt the history of boston, so very positive. so my experience in boston really was very positive, but later in the late 50s the year i entered medical school was the year brown versus board of occasion, the supreme court decision, and so as this was implemented around the country, problems of not only in the south but in the north as well. and boston was one of those areas. so, my experience in boston was somewhat different from blacks who went to boston in the late 50s. they found with the political shenanigans of hicks i still remember him from south ....
to say since i m not a can you synopsize your life in two sentences? i wanted you to just in some very brief way tell the audience what this book covers, and then i will delve in and we ll start through going into specifics, and then build from there. well, thank you very much. first of all, it s a great pleasure to be here with you, and to be here at the public library. so thank you very much. you re welcome. i guess what i would say, my autobiography is really the strand of my life story because i was born in 1933 in the depression. my father was a life insurance salesman with i was the second of two boys in atlanta, but nobody was buying life insurance. so my father left atlanta, went to southwest georgia, and established the first black funeral home in blakely, georgia. but beyond that my father was the social activist because this is during the period of legally enforced segregation. and in southwest georgia in those years for blacks was not a very happy ....
