Commissioners Approve Plan To Regulate Game Rooms In Hill Co.
The Hill County Commissioners Court held a public hearing Tuesday, May 11, before approving a game room order that will give the county the ability to regulate the facilities beginning this summer.
While gambling is illegal in Texas, game rooms can operate under some exceptions if the machines are for entertainment purposes and give out winnings in prizes other than cash.
During the public hearing, a patron of local game rooms and a game room operator both referenced cash prizes, leading County Judge Justin Lewis to warn them that they were making self-incriminating statements in the public forum.
