the release of more israeli hostages by hamas. that we're live? the fate of an israeli mother and her two young boys in gaza remains unclear. hamas says they were killed by an israeli airstrike. the cnn newsroom with john velazquez. >> hello breaking news this hour israel and hamas have both announced a temporary truce will continue for at least another day. the news came minutes after the pause in fighting was set to expire just over an hour ago. israel says it has agreed to extend the deal in light of efforts by mediators to continue the process of negotiating for the release of hostages. we have now learned that israel has received a list of ten people, ten names to be released in the day ahead by hamas. officials with hamas says they initially refused for a pause, -- three others who they say were killed by israeli airstrikes. earlier i spoke with mark regan a senior adviser to the prime minister, i asked him about the terms of the current extension. >> israel has expressed a willingness to continue the pause on the assumption that hostages are released, so our position is clear the question is will hamas continue to release hostages ten for every day for a continued pause? the israeli position is crystal clear on this if hamas continues to release hostages, ten a day we will extend the pause. >> he was adamant, ten alive hostages. on wednesday, ten alive israeli hostages were released. for ty nationals into russian israeli women were also released under two separate agreements with hamas. another 30 palestinian women and children have been released to from israeli prisons as part of the agreement. many of them have been detained under administrative detention and had not been charged. in tel aviv, a journalist with the wilson center has released a program, thank you for being with us, we appreciate it. >> thank you. >> the question is how much longer can these 24 hour pauses continue? ten hostages for 24 hours, we're looking at another few days before they get into men and israeli soldiers they will be under negotiation at any point? >> hamas leadership is very clear. they need more time for cease fire and we are asking ourselves why there is no truth of releasing all the hostages, it's clear he needs the cease-fire because they believe after days and days they can get the permanent cease-fire, it's important for him to declare the winning of the war. this is the problem, the dilemma of the prime minister, netanyahu. getting the cease-fire declared, permanency's fire. it means this will be the end of his political career because the israelis especially the base, right-wing base encourage him to fulfill his promise to eliminate hamas regime in gaza. >> we're looking at lots more hostages -- the numbers creeping up as part of this one deal among the israelis and hamas. others have been released in separate agreements. it does then get to a point that netanyahu has to decide when the deals just cannot be made any further. and the military operation will resume. what will that point be? how will the israeli public accept that? >> they won't accept it. because netanyahu's promise and his government promised to eliminate the hamas regime in gaza straight. they won't accept it. another way i can see netanyahu restart the war because even if hamas release the hostages the citizens want, we have a problem they are holding about 80 soldiers and i don't see them releasing the soldiers so easily. soldiers will be kept by hamas till the end of the war, that is my opinion i'm following hamas for over 30 years i've research now and i think we can understand the game, he is playing with the israelis. these requests will be releasing all the prisoners, the palestinian prisoners from the israeli prisons and declare a permanent cease-fire. i can see netanyahu accept this offer, i don't think the israeli public opinion accepts this week for the time. especially as i mentioned before this will be the end of netanyahu's career. >> i guess the question is is netanyahu willing to sacrifice the lives of soldier to continue with his military operation? that's where it gets down to? only he is the man who knows what decisions he will make, cnn is reporting that privately once the fighting resumes, if it does, and the assumption is that it does the biden administration officials including the president himself are telling the israeli counterpart they do not want to see the idf resume the kind of air strikes from earlier in the war, that led to massive casualties and widespread destruction. one senior official telling cnn there is an understanding that a different type of campaign has to be conducted in the self that was conducted in the north. the question here is can there be a different type of operation being conducted in the south, they're about 2 million people grounded into a very small part of the gaza strip. are the israelis going to listen to that? is there an understanding, what do you know about this? >> i don't see netanyahu or the idf now after seven weeks of war moving the palestinians back to the north we are talking about 1.2 million palestinian refugees. i really don't see it, i don't know how we can restart the war again but this is the dilemma. i think netanyahu and the war cabinet are considering their next step. the next step is how to release the hostages. the war is complicated we have to fight in the south. it's not simple. it is only the beginning of the war to start in the south. so i really don't know how netanyahu and the whole cabinet believe that they can restart the war. >> i guess this is one of the things which we will find out in the coming days as you say it is complicated, it's difficult. hamas knew exactly what they were doing when they took 240 hostages on october 7th. thank you, we appreciate your time and your insights. israeli american dual citizen was among the hostages released wednesday. u.s. president joe biden says he is quote deeply gratified, she will soon be reunited with her family. details now from cnn's mj lee. >> reporter: very welcome news for the white house on wednesday, a dual israeli american citizen released from hamas captivity in gaza. she is the second american citizen after four year old abigail was released on sunday. president biden celebrating the news of her release after learning that she had arrived in egypt. >> i talked with her mother and father, they are very appreciative and things are moving well, she will soon be home with her three children. >> there is one additional american women that the white house has talked about that they believe is also being held hostage but no word from the white house tonight on her condition or potentially the prospects of her being released as well, there are also seven other unaccounted americans that the white house spoke enough, they said that they were all men but of course no word on their condition either. this is one of the biggest reasons that u.s. officials are currently pushing for an extension of the current truce. they say the longer the truce, more time for more hostages to get out. officials that we are speaking to really emphasizing that this is a one day at a time situation, they are very focused on getting all the women and children hostage's first, and then the attention will turn to men and soldiers as well as remains. the bodies of those that were killed in gaza, but we are having reporting that discussions have been done about what israel's military operations will look like once the truth is overt with the u.s. officials and the sizing that the military operations do need to be more deliberate, more precise and more careful once the truce is over. mj lee, cnn, white house. in the occupied west bank, they say confrontations have been escalating there. they've been escalating for years. frequent israeli incursions have caused palestinian lives according to the palestinian ministry of health. cnn's ben wedeman takes us inside one of the flash points, the refugee camp and a warning, the images in his report are graphic. >> reporter: israeli forces with bulldozers and jeeps and turn the camp under the cover of darkness, this has become a routine. and this is the usual aftermath of, wreckage and rubble asphalt roads plowed down to the ground. once the damage is repaired, there's another raid, and it is the same thing. all over again. for almost two years alone density war has been raging in the occupied west bank, residents here in jenin refugee camp say that there have been more than 30 israeli military incursions since august of this year. the camp is home to militants who israel has accused of involvement of attacks on israelis, but here those whom israelis call terrorists are seen as fighters against a decades-long military occupation. he is not a fighter, he works for the local government. but last week, israeli soldiers took over his home during yet another raid. as he shows me around, the remains of what was his family's life crunched under our shoes. brutal, is how he sums up the behavior. scars of battles past are on the wall. debris on almost every corner. she shows me spent cartridges on the floor of her house. saying israeli troops use this room to fire down into the street. they took my husband, bound his hands and pushed him outside the cold she says. they kept him there from six in the evening until five in the morning. eventually, the soldiers let him go but took away her recently married son. after raransacking his bededroom sesearching for r weapons. 18-year-old was shot last thursday evening, shot through his bedroom window. his mother holding a bloodstain towel recounts how israeli soldiers wouldn't allow medics to taken to hospital. i was sure we were going to the hospital, she says, we went downstairs a second officer was there and made the medics put the stretcher down. he bled to death in front of his home. tuesday night israeli forces raided the camp again, sparking gun battles with militants. and then the process israeli troops killed at least four people including this a prosecutors have charged an indian nationals what they say was a murder for hire plot to assassinate an american citizen. it is steeped in international political intrigue extending well beyond political purpose. cnn's brian todd explains. >> reporter: for the second time in six months, we are learning of an alleged assassination attempt by the indian government on north american soil. according to an indictment unsealed on wednesday, u.s. prosecutors have charged an indian national in an alleged murder for hire plot against a sikh activist in new york city. the indictment doesn't name the man who was targeted, but u.s. officials familiar with the case tell cnn he is gurpatwant singh pannun, an activist pushing for a separate sikh state in india. acaccording to u.s. . prosecuto, the e man charged and the latest case, nikhil gupta, agreed to pay an undercover officers who he believed to be a hit man $100,000 to target the victim, and did so at the direction of an activist, which succeeded. hardeep singh nijjar was gunned down near vancouver, british columbia, an attack which prompted canadian prime minister justin trudeau to point the finger at the indian government. >> canadian security agencies have been actively pursuing credible allegations of a potential link between agents of the government of india and the killing of a canadian citizen. >> why would the government of nationalist indian prime minister narenda modi try to kill sikh activists who are thousands of miles away? analysts say while some sikhs are pushing for an independent state in india, they are not considered a major threat to mohdi's power. still-- >> the indian government, led by prime minister modi, always wants to project strength. it wants to show they are willing and able to go after any type of potential threat to the indian state. >> reporter: the washington post reports that president biden and his security team complained to modi's government about the alleged plot and the u.s. and urged modi to hold people accountable, but as for long term consequences for modi -- >> i would argue that the u.s. is willing to give some free passes to india that it wouldn't necessarily give many, if not most, other countries. it views india as a critical partner to help the u.s. counter china. >> the indian government vehemently denied any involvement in the assassination in canada, regarding the alleged assassination plot in the u.s., the indian foreign ministry issued a statement saying that the indian government takes the information seriously and is investigating. but the statement didn't confirm or deny the existence of a plot or any indian government involvement in it. brian todd, cnn, washington. >> we have this footnote. he faces multiple briefing notes were not used in meetings and they are saying it's trying to get away from the real climate meetings which as you say were 28 times of tried to solve the climate crisis. but the fact that it's being held in the uae john is always going to be sean as an ironic moment to say the least by activists and others. because the whole point of climate change mitigation is to primarily ease off our addiction to fossil fuel. here's a bit of a cheat sheet that gives a sense of the main thing that they hope to achieve here. and the world as wildly off track and reducing emissions to get to a point of warming that will be bearable for the planet in the coming years. this means that countries need to pledge to deeply cut their emissions at the very least to try and avoid the worst impacts of climate princess. a impacted we've obviously seen this year in stark relief. this is a current issue. so to do that, even officials in particular hope there will be concrete pledges to phase out fossil fuel uses. now that will be a hard ask potentially when this climate change conference is happening here in a major oil producer. they are hoping for timelines and concrete pledges, not just vague assertions that we have to transition to renewable energy away from coal and oil, otherwise this plan will be reaching a boiling point as the u.n. secretary general says. finally, it's really about our we going to pay for all of this? this is often been the sticking point in these climate conferences john. if you are going to transition away from fossil fuels, you need money to do that. and the developing countries are hoping for concrete pledges again for how the rich world will pay for the damage that they will face in mostly the global south in areas where they didn't even contribute to largely to the crisis that we face. these are very delicate, very difficult conversations and frankly the times already ran out to see whether they can in fact make the damage less than it's certainly going to be at this point. john? >> here's the thing about climate change. those least responsible for the crisis of the ones who will pay the highest price and that's where this is so temporary truce between israel and hamas has been extended to a seventh day. it came to the deal just moments before the deal was set to expire. israel as it is received a list of hostage names of those will be released by hamas on thursday. this is the second extension of initial foray truth began last friday. these are live images of gaza right now. it's 30 past eight on a thursday morning. meanwhile on wednesday, ten religious hostages released and taken to hospital. they were released outside the framework of the initial agreement. israel believes dozens of hostages, 140 or so are still being held in gaza. 30 palestinians, 16 minors and 14 women were released from israeli jails wednesday, including a pro palestinian activist, who vowed to promised in 2017 showing her slapping a story. >> reporter: and the stairwell of a public hospital in central ukraine, serhii draws back on a cigarette. the 36-year-old soldier of picked up the habit during the war, but after what he's endured these past two weeks, it is the only thing that comes him down. last month, he and his unit were in -- on the outskirts of bakhmut trying to hold trenches. after a few days, their dugout was shelled by russian mortars and serhii was hit. >> translator: i was wounded in both legs. i immediately touch them to see if they were still there. >> but they were far worse injuries amongst the other soldiers. broken legs and jaws. when the evacuation team arrived under heavy shelling, serhii insisted that they take the others first. he would wait for the next team. another unit arrived, but were pinned down because of constant russian bombardment, and so supplies were sent in by drones. >> translator: our commander dropped snacks, painkillers, water from drones, and even cigarettes and a lighter. we wanted to smoke. >> as another soldier scrambled out to collect the supplies, water have become an issue, as almost every bottle burst on impact and so their problems were about to get a lot worse when an enemy drone dropped a grenade into their small dugout, landing on the soldier next to serhii. >> translator: i was wounded again, but he was in really bad shape. two people from his per grade came away, and i realized that i was alone. >> reporter: for the next three days, serhii hid in his dugout alone surrounded by the enemy we can hear just meters away. whispering on the radio, he gave his commander there coordinates, basically calling in artillery on his very own position. he says multiple evacuation teams had tried to reach him over those two weeks, but some of those soldiers were killed. in the end, his commander said that the only way out was to pray and crawl, which he finally did. with a radio in one hand and his unit's drone overhead, he called back to safety, dragging his legs that were now beginning to rot. >> only one way to escape and i could only hope that i would survive. >> reporter: as serhii recovers in this hospital in central ukraine, eager to go home, he maintains his story is nothing special, and that it is the soldiers now fighting on the battlefield that deserve the world's attention. >> translator: what i've seen can not be expressed in words. every guy in this war has gone through something like this. our guys are taking a very high price. >> reporter: a price ukrainian soldiers are continuing to pay. as this war
