12 hours from now, a long hope for a truce will take effect in the israel-hamas war. it is scheduled to last for only four days, but in that time, hamas has promised to release 50 hostages and israel is going to release 150 palestinian prisoners and allow more aid into gaza. the deal was negotiated by the kingdom of qatar, and the spokesman is hopeful that with this deal hostilities will stop. >> we are hoping that we don't see any delays, and we have reached a point now where everything is in place, and we are ready to go on the ground, so we are hopeful that as i told you by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow, everything will stop. >> the first hostages are set to go free 4:00 p.m. local time tomorrow, and that is 9:00 a.m. eastern, and that is going to include 13 women and children. and the government has notified their families. becky anderson is in doha, and can you walk us through the outlines of the deal? >> yeah. here is what we do know. at midnight eastern time, which is 7:00 in the morning gaza time, there going to be a pause. qatar who have been mediating the negotiation, and they have gotten them over the line, announced today that they have a specific time for a pause. the guns, as it were, will stop at 7:00 a.m. local time, midnight eastern time. so then there is a period of time before we see the certainly the scheduled release of these first hostages, and this is the first day of a four-day pause in the fighting. on that first day at some point after 9:00 a.m. in the morning, and 4:00 p.m. gaza time, we will see the release of the first 13 hostages. as you are rightly point out, the list has been provided by hamas of who those hostages are to the israelis, and so the names are now available to the israelis and the families of those who have been told. at that point, it is clear that those hostages at some point after 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon, and 9:00 a.m. local time, those hostages are going to be taken to the red cross, and the red cross will then take those hostages to one of the borders, and it is not clear which border. it is not clear how this is operationalized, because mjeri, the spokesman for the qatari ministry was not prepared to reveal those details which is understandable, but those hostages will be taken by the red cross to a border, and then taken by the idf and looked after. anybody, any of the women and children, sorry, any of the children under the age of 12 will have their families there, and those families have been notified. anybody over the age of 12 will go with the idf and looked after, and if they need hospital treatment, and then they will be reunited with their families. let me just give you a sense of what we know about who those people will be. we don't. at the moment, we know they are women and children, and we know they are 13 of the 50 being held by hamas. i put this following question, and have a listen, to the spokesman for the ministry of foreign affairs earlier. have a listen. >> the criteria on which to prioritize the hostages was purely humanitarian, as you know, and the focus of getting the women and children out of harm's way as soon as possible which is what we are doing within this agreement. we will be going through hopefully the momentum carried by this deal would help to get everybody out of time, and in the same time, the people who are to ensure that the humanitarian aid is taking place. >> that is in answer to my question of the you are running a separate track in negotiation of the foreign nationals and their release. so that is what you have to surmise from that, there is a possibility of foreign nationals, and not just israeli nationals on the list of those who will be released tomorrow. we do know at least four women and children who are american citizens, and one of whom we know is a 3-year-old. so the hope is going to be from the family members, they are on the that list of the first to be released, but it is not clear for sure that is the case at this point. >> becky anderson in doha. thank you for the reporting. now, part of the deal would include 200 trucks carrying aid and fuel that could cross into gaza each day. new video is showing a convoy of trucks filled with food and water and other supplies crossing the border into egypt. eleni giokos is joining us from the border, and tell us what the situation is like there as we wait for the pause in fighting? >> well, it is a flurry of activity, and basically, around rafah, they have been seeing dozens of trucks lining up in anticipation for the truce to kick in. the fact that they have agreed now to 200 trucks of aid to enter gaza daily while this truce is on the go is really big news. we have heard from the international organizations that have been saying that they are in desperate need of all resources from food and water, federal supplies, and we have to remind the audience just what it means to be somebody injured in gaza right now, the chances are that you are getting surgery without anesthesia or an amputation without anesthesia, and these are the horror stories that we are hearing. we have bumped into a group of people who had just come into egypt from gaza, and saying for days, no access to food or water, and that is how dire the situation is. so get the aid to hold up as much as possible. >> that is becky anderson with a view from cairo, and now, there are some who are waiting to hear if their loved ones will be released. one of those is edo. and his family was involved in the brutal attack on october 7th, and we have learned that two of his cousins have died. three more relatives, two cousins age 12 and 16 along with their father are still missing. i want to thank you for joining me today on what is a very difficult day. >> yeah, hello, audi. we are very nervous to be honest. >> what are your concerns? what are you nervous about as you are waiting for this call or to wait to get information from the government? >> well, the truth is that we don't know exactly who will be released and how many of these kids will be released in the months, but we know that the basic deal involves only 75%-ish about of that group. so, it is a toss up. >> so you are saying 75% of -- so you are saying 75% of the women and children? >> exactly. because the deal is about 50, which are, you know, 38 children and then it is not really clear, what will be the rest to get to 50. but there is an incentive in the deal for every additional 10 hostages, hamas will basically get another day of cease-fire. so, question be hopeful they will be included, but to be honest -- >> you were using term hamas and isis, but do you have any clarity of who are the militants in particular holding your loved one? >> no, we don't. no, we don't. but assumption is that hamas, hamas has basically, you know, they are going to have the ability to get all of the hostages, even though vi heard some reports that they claim they aren't, because there are fractions there, but since hamas, isis launched this massacre on october 7th, so, they are, you know, progress to get our loved ones back. but since october 7th, we are all family, the hostage families and right now, 236, because three of the hostages that were grabbed alive actually came back in coffins which is very, very scary for us. and right now we are one family. so whoever is managed to be released tomorrow is going to be just an enormous achievement in and happiness for them, but now we -- >> i want to make sure that i get to ask you this question in particular about whether or not you have heard from the government itself at this point. are you waiting for a phone call or have you had a phone call? >> we had a phone call. >> has this shifted your mood, because you describe nervous, and it does not sound like you are hopeful? >> we are nervous, because we want to be and we cannot celebrate until the military, you know, checks them out, and verify that the list that was communicated to us for tomorrow, and by the way, only the list for tomorrow was communicated and not the rest of the deal, because it is like the deal should be, the 50 should be released of course, across the four days burk until we get them verified, and actually, until we get them home to hug them and smell them and feel them, we cannot celebrate yet. so this is the reason that we are hopeful, but very nervous at the same time, and this what has been our state for the past six weeks. but, i must tell you that, you know, throughout the last six weeks, the type, if you can call it, the releasing of hostages and prisoners on both sides was very dry. nothing was moving there. no liquid. right now, we are really, really, really hoping that the first aid assuming it is going to happen, because it was delayed 24 hours, so just, you know, just assuming it happens, we are hoping this is going to be the beginning of a set of releases that eventually gets all of the hostages back alive in israel, and all of the missing citizens back in israel. this is something, and even if, and it is hard for us to say, but i truly mean it, even if other kids would arrive in this, tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, and not ours, we will be extremely happy. >> ido, do you think that is a shift for the government? is there some criticism that the government is not prioritizing getting the hostages back over the plan to eradicate hamas, and maybe this is showing that things are changing? >> i hope so. i hope so. because, and also by the way, the kidnapper has a vote. assuming that the other side will that they will see the fruits of the negotiation, because they will get prisoners back home, too, and i hope they will celebrate the prisoners and get more motivated to keep doing that until all of the hostages are released. and then this would mean eventually what you are asking. >> and ido dan, we want to thank you and thinking of you as you are waiting for the phone to ring again. >> i would like to cross my fingers, and just to know that even if our family will be able to sit with us around the thanksgiving table. i nope that the over 200 empty chairs will be filled again. >> thank you, again. >> thank you, audi. israel and hamas are hours away from what they hope is a pause in the fighting. hamas and idf continue to exchange attacks in the northern region. we will go there next. and now as the air strikes are continuing to bombard gaza today, they say that more idf strikes are continuing to bombard gaza. jeremy diamond is in sderot, and can you give us an update of what is going on? >> yes, the fighting is continuing here as we are continuing less than 12 hours away from the truce beginning, but the israeli military sis making it clear here they will continue to operate inside of gaza and strike targets inside of gaza until they get the order to stop before that truce goes into effect. the idf spokesman is saying it is quote business as usual inside of the gaza strip. here today from the vantage into northern gaza, we have watched as the israeli military has continued to bombard the gaza strip. we have heard a small arms fire indicating small arms battle of the israeli mir litary and hama targets. and as for the 13 hostages to be released tomorrow, that not going to happen until 4:00 p.m. local time. they will be handed over to the red cross who will transfer them to the israeli forces at three different crossing points into israel. the children under 12 are expected to meet their parents or family members at a designated points. and the families hoefr 12 are expected to go across to the hospitals to get medical evaluations and meet their family members there. all of this, of course, it is a delicate situation still as we have seen of the timing, and this is supposed to have happened today, and delayed by 24 hours, to show you how fraught and delicate this situation is and the potential for things to go wrong before this actually happens. >> that is jeremy diamond, thank you so much. and now, joinining us is the former head of the israeli national foreign coukcouncil. >> thank you, audi. >> our previous guest said the kidnappers get a vote, too. so what do you see being negotiated here? >> hamas clearly negotiated strongly over this, which is one of the kidnapping of those families, children, mothers, fathers, elderly, and this is the most painful of things that happened on october 7th, and the fact that hamas is playing hardball for so long says a lot about the character of the organization. in the last three weeks or so, hamas has tried to squeeze what they can, and israel is trying to get the largest amount of the families to come out and not separate their mothers and siblings, and hopefully this is what we will see playing out in the next 24 hours to see it today and what happens. >> and there are fault lines here within the israeli government. i want to show you a quote from the "times of israel" with a member of the parliament jewish party said this is setting a dangerous precedent, and branding it as immoral, illogical and far from enough. what are we seeing in the fault lines? >> well, first of all, the minister was saying this is that he is the most extreme member of the israeli government which is in itself a right wing government, and very different from the one that ti served as national security adviser, and it must be told. i will not defend what he says. >> this is the levers of the power, and that is why i brought it up. >> this is approved through the large majority of the cabinet, but this is the sent of the israeli populations. we want to see the families back home, and there is a saying in hebrew, who has saved a single life will have saved the entirety. after tomorrow, there are 190 more hostages there, and the proportions, as we get 50 hostages abducted, but we are releasing 150 terrorists, female terrorists and teenager terrorists. >> people detained for a variety of reasons. >> they were detained for attempting to murder jews and israelis over the years. this is not a hostage swap. >> so, is this a good deal? >> well, at this point, we have to bring them back, the hostages have been in the tunnels for 47, and tomorrow 48 days. >> and negotiate with the people that you want to eradicate is untenable position. >> that is true. >> and att the end, a tenable position to see more hostages released, and is that a position that people are okay given if they want to eradicate this? >> it is for it to extend a few more days and get ten more hos hostages, and then israel will continue to attack hamas. if hamas was willing to release all of the hostages in a deal, this would have happened. that would have changed the calculus of the war, but hamas is being squeezed in the agreement to release those, and as long as they do not feel that the throat is close to his neck, he will not release all of them. it is difficult for him to release solders, men, because this is the ethos, and what hamas has been doing over the years. i expect it to continue, and the firing and the fighting to continue until hamas is at this point. >> does that change the calculus at all? >> well, if there was an effort for him to release all of them at one time, it would have been differently, but hamas wants to continue to bargain on this, and that is why we have to continue to put pressure on them, and eventually, and this is a point that you said that is very, very important. there is no hope for gaza as long as hamas controls gaza. so this is going to end in a way that we can build a new future in gaza, and hamas has to end their rule. >> and we thank you so much, hulata. and a look at how this deal could play out on capitol hill. will a big military aid package to israel be a big party breakdown in congress. efforts to help israel in congress alongside key ally ukraine have been caught up in the squabbles within and between the two major parties. for more on the dynamics here in washington, we are going to bring in great panel of reporters. cnn's m.j. lee and melanie zanona and aylayna treene. and so starting with you, melanie, and so, they wanted a big package, and what can we see? >> well, the democrats wanted one package, but the republicans want different packages, and the reason is that with ukraine, they want border policy changes, and they want stricter asylum laws, and so it is a complex issue to try to get the policy changes. >> and we see the border security tacked on, because it is a republican priority in so many ways. we are reading that senator chris murphy is saying that there could be shortages for ukraine and soldiers getting all of the way to 2024. i wanted to open it up to the table, because it feels like a fundamental, it seems minor, but it is a big fundamental question. is the u.s. a place that is intervening, supporting in various places all at once where they can be looped together or a different approach? >> i saw the first big test of johnson and i was thinking about it this morning that we have a new dance partner here at the white house, but it is the same tune and same orchestra with unlikely outcome to be much different which is a lot of squabbling, and another c.r., though we are being told, and melanie is told that they won't be likely to go for that, and little indication of a understanding of the broader stakes. you cited politico and chris murphy saying they could be running out of ammo, and if you are reading what is out there right now, the counter offensive here has all but stalled, and they may not be able to wait until next february. >> and it is a post america first coming out of the trump year, and this is a new approach, is that how the white house sees it. >> the fact that israel and ukraine aid both, the prospects of getting more aid is so grim right now speaks volumes of how much a distance we have traveled both in terms of the ukraine conflict being so protracted within the republican conference. we are in a political world where even the prospect of keeping the government funded is so incredibly divisive and challenging, and everything is coming down to the wire, i think that the white house feels no sense of confidence right now that it is a situation where they can trust that the house and the senate can get this kind of the funding passed when not that long ago, it was sort of accepted reality that members of congress would be okay with that. >> so they have the pressure of the front and the head winds within the democratic party, and whether or not saying cease-fire works for democrats. give us some democratic context here. >> the divide won the democratic party, and in congress and beyond is also complicating this, and the divide when it is coming to israel. >> and example, rashida tlaib is continuing to push for the cease-fire as this kind of conversation of a halt in hostilities is on the way where she says that when the short term agreement ends, the bombing of civilians is going to continue, and we need a permanent cease-fire to end, and bring all of the hostages home, and bring a end to this violence. i don't know how welcomed this is in the white house >> it is not welcomed, and biden has been trying to walk this line, and like, he is very pro israel, and he has been making it clear that he wants to aid israel, and help israel right now, but he recognizes that there are a lot of the people in the party like congressman tlaib, and people on the hard left sympathizing a lot more with what is happening in palestinian, and other people sympathizing with hamas to an extent. so the politics around this are very difficult. >> even if there is aid, there is strings attached, and conditions are attached? >> that is a split in the democratic party. there should be conditions upon the human rights and the military strategy, and others say, no conditions attached and we have done it for other countries, and never that to israel, and you are seeing a split on the left that has become so complicated in the normal times when it would be so easy to do. >> and it can reverberate in this politico headline when a donor tried to recruit more donations. >> this is not a divide within the biden campaign, but it is among voters, too, and the biden campaign looks to see that the israel issue has the potential to erode the support among the younger voters and support among voters of color, and so when you start to take away the slivers of support that is supposed to be key to the democratic phases. >> supporting biden, and how do you make up that difference. >> yes. stay with us, and we will talk about the turmoil of the desantis campaign and whether or not that is good news for the nikki haley campaign, but there is time to catch the gop frontrunner. stay with us. we are now less than two months of the iowa caucuses, and ron desantis who was once seen as the most viable alternative of the gop to donald trump is floundering. yesterday the chief executive of his super pac quit. and a shuffle of the inner circle, and we want to talk about the polls, because they are tracking in the wrong direction for desantis. now nikki haley is topping him for second place in new hampshire and south carolina and the two are tied in iowa. they are both pretty far behind donald trump, but i am bringing back the political reporters, because it is a holiday, and if you are watching this show, you care. you know this is two months ago. >> the only place that we are allowed to talk politics. >> yes, the only thanksgiving table you can talk politics. i looked at the math, and it is 20%, 30% of the electorate is looking for someone else, and is that what you are hearing? >> it is. and what is interesting about the polls, is that nikki haley and desantis are head-to-head in iowa, and that is because desantis has been operating this all-in strategy, and put all of the eggs in the iowa basket, and counting on succeeding in iowa in order to help him to 3wi8d momentum for the other -- build momentum for other primaries, and yet -- >> but yet more money may be and the way. >> other than this super pac drama where the head of the never back down chris janikowski resigned, he has had a few week, and we saw bob vander plats who is a very big power broker, and christian evangelical leader gave him the endorsement, and getting moreheidi, you can jump because i am looking at your face. >> i am thinking of the campaigns they have covered and this is what you do when you are a struggling campaign, rearrange the deck chairs, and it is never the candidate's fault, but get new help. we saw it when he got a new campaign manager, and previous campaigns when he gave brad parscale the boot. he was supposed to have a break out here in iowa, and seven weeks before the caucuses, and he is down 25 points to donald trump. >> and you are painting a picture that nikki haley's campaign will love. now, with this desantis camp, haley is getting more of a frontrunner, and the fives are out. >> we know her as crooked haley, but to nikki haley, she is the role model, and the reason she ran for office. >> the reason i got into politics is because of her. >> she is the reason i made the jump. >> so, this is from the far right pac, and we know there is no greater slur in the republican party than to be called hillary clinton, and so what is the aim here in terms of approaching nikki haley. >> our colleagues said that some of the ads were backfiring on desantis for going after her, and just like desantis has struggled to take on trump, he is struggling to go after nikki haley, and going after foreign policy which is her calling card, and the far right, and seeing the more isolationist party with is taking more of a hold. >> and struggling here in israel with the america first with this particular ally. >> and they are struggling with attacks on her without it also backfiring. >> i want to talk about the messaging, because this is the context of joe biden to say to ignore the data and feel like the economy is better. how are they thinking about this right now? >> we have talked about this so much, and i don't know how many times we can use the word disconnect, and this is the theme song of the campaign right now. they know that the economic data is so much stronger than before early in the administration, and they recognize that there is a disconnect and people do not feel like the economic situation is good despite the nomination. >> and there is a flurry of ads they are pushing. >> in the battleground states of the economic record of how he is trying to sell the record on the economy in particular, and when i talked to the white house officials they say and they recognize that there is a bit of a messaging problem, and is bidenomics a little bit of the problem. >> and i say that it is undefeated and tiktok is leading. >> i have looked at the data and inflation for much of biden's presidency was outpacing the wages even though the wages were rising. now, that has flipped and we have to watch and see. >> is inflation the problem or prices? >> well, it is the same thing. but the point is that this dynamic is now flipping, right. >> so you can see that inflation can go down, and you can still go to the grocery store, and find high prices, and this is one of the puzzles so far. >> well, there is also a recognition that some part of this is that time needs to pass, and there is nothing that the white house or the campaign can do about that, right? we went through two brutal years of the pandemic, historic inflation, prices of everything being so high, and so even if the economic data is strong, there is something about the human psychology that is just going to take time. >> and second thing is the social safety net programs due to expire. >> that is where the house democrats are fall. >> and that is going to hit his base very much so, the lower income individuals and single mothers. >> how does that dialogue go? >> when i talk to the voters out in the field, and the republicans, when i covered the trump campaign, which doi do a lot, and how the biden economy is, there is a hangover, and even if the economy is getting better, they believe joe biden is the one in office when the economy is bad, and think of the high gas prices and inflation and associate that with him, and so therebattle for the white house to change the messaging on economics. i appreciate you being here on a holiday and great reporting and thank you so much. >> happy thanksgiving. >> happy thanksgiving. and ahead, how the deal with the political divisions around your thanksgiving table by embracing new stories. that is next. who say they're extremely proud to be an american is actually at a record low. earlier this year, a "wall street journal" poll found just 38% of americans say patriotism is very important to them. that's down from 70% in 1998. i want to invite you to listen to a conversation i had on my podcast because we want to bring you a unifying conversation, an uplifting conversation for your thanksgiving tables. one that asks important questions like what does it mean to love this country despite its divisions, how can we come together and hold space for the good and bad of thuamerican story, and what would those conversations even sound like if we did? i spoke to an author when she says that it might mean letting go of some of the old stories about who we are as a country. >> that's part of the polarization that has spread throughout society and it's not limited to the halls of congress. it's showing up in business transactions and who you buy a chicken sandwich from and, you know, you have to pick a side in everything. that's risky. but we know in our realist relationships we're not in relationship with a totally good person or a totally bad person. we know that the children we love and the spouses we marry and the parents who brought us into this world are very imperfect, and we embrace multiplicity, duality, a full spectrum with all of those people. we make excuses, right? for ourselves, and for the people we love. and we embrace more of them. when we're doing our best. >> so if you want to listen to more, that episode of the assignment is available wherever you get your podcasts. please listen and subscribe. and thank you so much for joining us this hour. all of us here on inside politics wish you a very happy and healthy thanksgiving. cnn news central starts after the break.
