CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — Councilwoman Davida Russell offered a simple explanation for her seat at the table with the Biden transition committee overseeing housing and urban development, as well as education.
“They told me I checked all the boxes,” said the Black woman serving as an elected official in a racially diverse inner-ring suburb, as well as a longtime regional and state labor leader, school bus driver and substitute teacher.
It also doesn’t hurt that Russell lives within the district of Congresswoman Marcia Fudge, who is incoming President Joe Biden’s nominee for HUD secretary.
