The Chesnee community is mourning the passing of a teen, who died from injuries received two days after a car crash.
Toby Brooks Cantrell, 16, was injured in a single-vehicle crash on Dec. 21 when his car overturned on McSwain Road near Secondary 186, about 5 miles north of Chesnee. There were no other passengers. South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
Cantrell died at Spartanburg Medical Center at 4:37 p.m. on Dec. 23, according to the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office. An autopsy is pending.
Cantrell, of Parris Bridge Road, was a junior at Chesnee High School. He was a member of the school's baseball and football teams, an honor student in the National Beta Club, and attended classes at the Swofford Career Center.
