TAZEWELL COUNTY (HOI) - An audit of the Illinois Housing Authority shows hundreds of thousands of dollars missing from several counties.
A group of 10 Central Illinois clerks including Tazewell County's John Ackerman are expressing concerns with the state's financial reporting.
The auditor general confirms county governments gave more to the state's "Rental Housing Support Program" than the housing authority reported receiving.
In McLean and Sangamon Counties, the difference totaled more than $400,000.
"Currently, Downstate Illinois receives nothing from this program, virtually nothing. For example, Tazewell County received no grants for this program," said Ackerman.
He says a bill in the legislature asks counties to double their contributions to the housing program, which he says would be more than $300,000 a year.
