Knox County residents will get a chance to see and hear candidates for county office at a candidate's forum from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, on the second floor of the Galesburg Public Library, 40 E Simmons St. The Galesburg NAACP is organizing the forum, which will include candidates for sheriff, clerk, treasurer in Knox County, along with candidates for 9th Judicial Circuit Judge. The candidates will be asked a series of questions and will be given a chance to give an opening statement about their candidacy for office. Brittany Grimes, president of the Galesburg NAACP, is coordinating the forum in collaboration with United Against Hate, PFLAG, Galesburg Public Library, The Register-Mail and WGIL, who will broadcast the event live. The following candidates have been invited: • Knox County Clerk: incumbent Scott Erickson, Republican, and challenger Tracy Thierry-Robertson, Democrat • Knox County Treasurer: incumbent Robin Davis, Democrat, and challenger Janet Windish, Republican • Knox County Sheriff: Republican Jack Harlan and Democrat James Robertson (Incumbent is not running) • 9th Circuit Judge: Democrat David Hansen and Republican Ken Hogan (Incumbent is not running) Register-Mail Editor Tom Martin will be the moderator. The questions were devised by the collaborating groups in advance of the forum and have not been shown to the candidates. The same groups are also planning a forum for candidates in state and congressional races. That forum is from 7-9 Tuesday, Oct. 18, on the second floor of the Galesburg Public Library. Candidates invited include Republican Esther Joy King (R) and Eric Sorensen (D) for U.S. Representative 17th District; Michael Halpin (D) and Mike Thoms (R) for State Senate 36th District; and Dan Swanson (R) and Christopher Demink (D) for State Representative 71st District.
