An Australian tourist hotspot has been rocked after a Japanese woman was allegedly assaulted in a terrifying late-night attack.
The woman was walking along Bunda Street, in Cairn's CBD, about 9.30pm on Saturday when a man allegedly approached her from behind.
He then allegedly grabbed her face and neck before forcing her into a garden bed, the Cairns Post reports.

A security officer patrolling the area saw the alleged attack and called out to the man, who then ran from the scene.
