The Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families will host a dedication ceremony on July 9 for a new mural to be unveiled on its building at the DMACC Urban Campus in Des Moines. The bigger-than-life mural, created by local artist Jill Wells, honors the legacy of the late J. Barry Griswell, former chairman and CEO of Principal Financial Group and retired CEO of the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines. The Davis Center, a workforce training and financial literacy resource center, moved into the 23,000-square-foot building at 1171 7th St. in the fall of 2019 after DMACC purchased and renovated the facility. Ahmed Agyeman, formerly director of community and global engagement for DMACC, recently began his new role as director of the Evelyn K. Davis Center, which is a partnership of DMACC, the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines and the Directors Council. The dedication ceremony, scheduled for 10 a.m. on the building’s north side, is open to the public but pre-registration is requested and can be completed at this link.
