Amritsar: BJP leader Harjit Singh Grewal has objected to the facilities and financial assistance provided by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to the agitating farmers and alleged that Sikh’s single largest representative body was trying to give farmers agitation a religious colour. The main role of SGPC is to manage the affairs of gurdwaras, since it was a religious body, he said while speaking to TOI on Wednesday.
In a letter to SGPC president Jagir Kaur, Grewal wrote that providing shades, fans, langar service, moveable toilets and Rs 1 lakh each to the kin of deceased farmers were some of the activities which were against the “mandate given to it under ‘The Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925’ and ‘Punjab Act 8 of 1925’.
