BYGONES: Turnaround for ‘jinxed’ ice rink in 1987
SLOUGH’S £3 million Ice Arena, which had previously been branded as “jinxed”, was starting to make a healthy £10,000 a week profit by the spring of 1987.
A council spokesman told the Observer that during the period of six weeks to the end of March the complex had made £65,058 and was a “very good performance.”

One of Slough’s most famous landmarks, The Bestobell Man, was restored to its original site on the Farnham Road 33 years ago.
The sculpture, part of the town since the 1930’s, was due to be moved to Dorset along with the Bestobell company’s new headquarters, but due to a public outcry the company decided to leave it where it was.
