weather in the west, ten in glasgow and highs up to around 13 in plymouth this afternoon. overnight, a few more showers coming and going across the north of the uk. further southwards, we had some clearer spells developing. that is where we will see some of the lower temperatures. holding up in the countryside to see the odd nip of frost. a cold start tomorrow but an area of high pressure is moving in. despite that, i suspect it will be quite cloudy in wales and southern counties of england. the best of the sunshine to the east of the pennines, for a time in eastern scotland but then rain arriving across the north west in the afternoon. the highest temperatures across western areas, still a little on the cold side in eastern england, just seven for parts of east anglia. into the weekend, we get a weather front stuck across the north—west of scotland. this will be bringing some very large falls of rain, particular focused in on the highlands, where over the high ground we could look at as much as 175 millimetres of rain, enough to cause flooding issues here and that is a landslip over higher ground. away from that feature, south—westerly winds will be bringing most areas of the uk some mild weather. but i reckon across western areas it will be quite cloudy again, they can offer the odd patch of drizzle, some mist and fog patches. the best of any breaks in the cloud to the east of the pennines and perhaps in eastern areas of scotland, although any sunshine breaking through here will be likely hazy. temperatures around 12 or 13 quite widely, so it will be turning noticeably milder. probably a bit more in the way of sunshine to come for the second half at the weekend in england and wales but rain looks be a bit more extensive across scotland and probably a bit of rain for a time at least getting into northern ireland as well. those south—westerly winds dragging up mild air, temperatures could reach as high as 1a. but the mild weather conditions will not last next week. the week before christmas, set to become colder as we get north—westerly winds. with these, there will be plenty of shells, particularly across northern and western areas. as the temperatures start to dip, some of those showers turning increasingly wintry for some. thanks, chris. and that's bbc news at one. you can keep up with all the latest developments on the bbc website. hello and welcome to sportsday. heartbreak at st james*s park castles european hopes the season come to an end but pure joy for aldershot town who pull off an fa cup upset into the third round. and a difficult day with the ball for england's women, as india bat their way to a commanding position in their one—off test match in mumbai. welcome along to the programme. so, after 20 years away from champions league football, newcastle united's european dream is now over for this season at the group stage. they were beaten by ac milan at st james park to finish bottom of their group. in front of a vocal home crowd, they had got off to the perfect start, whenjoelinton*s emphatic strike, nearly took the net off. at this point, with them winning and dortmund one—up in germany, they were on course to keep their champions league dream alive but they ran out of steam and former chelsea player christian pulisic equalised for milan, in the second half, and then geordie hearts were broken as substitute samuel chukwueze put the visitors 2—1 up with six minutes of normal time remaining. you see the game on the pitch and i see what goes on behind the scenes and the players and i can't fault them at all. i don't think we were at our absolute best tonight. i think if we had have been, we would have won the game. but i can't fault the commitment and what they're giving me, especially under the circumstances we're playing in. so that's why it's painful for me and for them, because i know how professional they are, and i know how much they want to achieve success. so from the premier league it's just arsenal and title holders manchester city who remain in the competition. city fielded a team of youngsters, one who used to be a ball boy at the etihad, in their final group game. micah hamilton, who's been the club since he was nine, scored on his debut last night, what a goal from the 20—year—old as the european champions beat red star belgrade 3—2. city becoming just the second english side to win all their champions league group games. elsewhere, celtic were already out of europe but ended their campaign with a 2—1 win over feyenoord. gustaf lagerbielke with the second goal. huge joy for the home fans as, incredibly, that was celtic*s first home win in the champions league for a decade. later tonight, the europa league group stages draw to a close and there's a reunion with an old friend for liverpool boss, jurgen klopp. his team are in brussels to play union saint gilloise. liverpool have already won their group, so the pressure is off, and both he and his opposing manager were born and in stuttgart, and so a chance for a catch up over a belgian beer, maybe. i'm really happy for him that it's going that well. it looks obviously really good in the table and really cool. and if he has a beer, we will drink it together. but our plane goes after the game. so i will not miss the plane for the beer. that's clear. brighton are in action against marseille tonight. if they win, they will top the group and so avoid the knockout phase before the last 16. west ham are also through, a draw at home to freiburg would also see them directly into the last 16. rangers must equal sparta prague's result against aris limassol to reach the knockout stages, otherwise they'll into the europa conference league. aston villa manager unai emery wants his side to top their europa conference league group at zrinjski mostar. villa need a draw in bosnia—herzegovina to seal top spot, miss the play—offs and move straight into the last 16. aberdeen can't go through to the knockout stages, they've taken three points from their five games so far. what a night for non—league club aldershot town in the fa cup. they're now looking forward to a trip to west brom, of the championsip, in the third round after they beat the league two leaders stockport county, in their replay. and of course, we love to see celebrations afterwards. this is what it means, the team chanting about hero goal—scorer olly scott, the toast of the song, toast of the town after booking them a place in the third round. the former premier league referee mark clattenburg is concerned that referees could leave the game as players lose faith in officials because of inconsistencies around the use of var. clattenburg was a premier league refereee until 2017 before he left for saudi arabia. var of course was introduced after his time in the league. the problem we have got as players now don't trust the system and i think referees don't make the decisions on the field because they know technology should put the decision correct but then you have the argument is the var decision correct most weeks because market is sometimes another time is and it creates tension between the players and they are so highly strung because it is a result driven sport and they have anger and dissent referee and we have seen traffic situations in turkey and a lot of situations in turkey and a lot of situations around the world —— horrific situations. it is now becoming a situation where the football association have to find a way to bring back the respect that referees need. a bit like policeman in the street they need the authority to do the job in a safe environment. if not, many referees will leave the game and without a referee unfortunately we will not get a game of football and we need to work better as a group to find the captain speaks only to the referee of the trial sin bins, whatever works, you need a better solution to what is happening now stop. for decades, football fans have collected stickers of famous players and put them into albums, but now for the first time a women's league has a dedicated sticker collection of its own. the fa has joined forces with the italian sticker company panini to produce an album of nearly 350 stickers of stars from the women's super league, and it was unveiled at a special event in manchester on wednesday with some of those in the album there in person. i think for young girls to look and by the panini stickers and see each and every player. when i was growing up and every player. when i was growing up he always looked at a man and that was the role model you always had to look at but now they have access to these women players, i think it's incredible. it is special. _ think it's incredible. it is special. mumbai. lauren bell chipped in with two wickets as england limited india to 190—4 on an otherwise difficult day for the bowlers because india found their rhythm. four half—centuries later — and a 115—run partnership from harmanpreet kaur and yastika bhatia helped take the hosts to 1110—7 at the close of play. i think they batted really well today and i guess it was a tough day today and i guess it was a tough day to day but we will come back again tomorrow. it is very impressive about habits as their first match and they play test match cricket like that and they batted really well and we had to work really hard for our four wickets. australia had the better of the opening day of their first test against pakistan in perth finishing on 346—5. david warner intends to retire from test cricket after this three—match series but showed he still has the appetite and skill to score runs at the highest level. it took him just 125 balls to reach his century — the 26th time he's reached threre figures in tests. warner is now fifth on australia's list of all time list of run—scorers — he finally went for 164 to aamerjamal who ended up with two wickets. andy farrell has signed a new long—term contract to remain as ireland head coach until the end of the 2027 rugby world cup. farrell's irish side lost to new zealand in the quarterfinal of this year's world cup, having gone into the tournament ranked number—one in the world. he's been in charge since 2019 and led ireland to a first—ever series win in new zealand last summer and they won a grand slam earlier this year. you can mother—of—three who disappeared from norwich almost a week ago. and now police have released cctv of her last known movements. 55—year—old gaynor lord did not return home after work. norfolk constabulary also said it was collaborating with police in lancashire because of similarities with the nicola bulley investigation. you may remember nicola bulley went missing on a dog walk. a coroner later found that her death was accidental, and that she'd drowned after falling into cold water. we are expecting a police update on the ongoing search in the next half hour, but first let's go live to our reporter maria veronese who's in norwich. thank you so much forjoining us, what is the latest on the search? this morning the police from lancashire, specialist divers resume the search looking for gaynor lord and have broken up now for lunch because that is freezing cold water in the river wensum. yesterday the released footage of gaynor lord leaving her shift which she left an hour before she was due to finish and they released cctv footage showing her running into a london street and then a part of norwich entering an area in the direction of the cathedral. she appears to be in a hurry as she crosses the road and about half an hour later is seen walking out of the cathedral grounds, putting her green coat on as she goes. the last cctv citing offer is near here, wensum park on the outskirts of norwich, about an hour from the cathedral. can you talk us through the similarities with the nicola bulley case? at the moment that is really where the similarities end, police collaborating with those in lancashire because the divers are those used in the nicola bulley case but the police are loath to draw parallels between the two searches at this stage. they don't think a third party was involved, they do think she entered the water and say
