Showers on tuesday. We however stay on the mild side of things, 11 12 degrees. Beyond that, we have to ta ke degrees. Beyond that, we have to take a look at what is going on in the atlantic. The atlantic Hurricane Season the atlantic. The atlantic Hurricane Seasonis the atlantic. The atlantic Hurricane Season is drawing to a close but here is sebastian and during the course of friday this will become a hurricane and it will be instead in towards the mid and it is possible that the remnants of this system could enter southern england and northern france as we head into wednesday. We are keeping a close eye on that. Next week, further spells of rain stop quite windy as well and although the week starts off on well and although the week starts offona well and although the week starts off on a mild note, later in the week it could turn colder across northern areas. That is your weather. Hello. This is bbc news, with lu kwesa burak. Well be taking a look at tomorrow mornings papers in a moment. First, the headlines. Jeremy corbyn launches labours election manifesto, calling it the most ambitious plan in decades to transform britain. Alex salmond appears in court accused of Sexual Offences while he was first minister of scotland. He denies the charges. A number of orphaned british children caught up in the war in syria are to be brought home to the uk, according to the foreign secretary. Prince andrew is seen for First Time Since stepping back from royal duties over the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. Firefighters in South Australia have been battling flames near adelaide that have been creating a smoky haze in the region. And two metal detectorists have been found guilty of stealing and concealing a viking hoard of coins and jewellery worth millions of pounds, much of which is still missing. Hello and welcome to our look ahead to what the papers will be bringing us tomorrow. With me are me are nicola bartlett, Political Correspondent from the daily mirror, and olivia utley, deputy leader writer from the sun. Many of tomorrows front pages are already in with labours election manifesto launch leading a number of them. The daily mirror welcome todays announcement, calling it the most radical labour manifesto in decades, which includes the promise of a 5 pay rise for Public Sector workers. The guardian says that experts were taken aback by the scale of labours spending plans, with party strategists hoping that the manifesto will tempt wavering voters. While the daily mail calls it a socialist spending splurge which it calls a triple whammy of tax rises for families. The times quotes the independent institute for fiscal studies, who called plans to raise £83 billion in taxes simply not credible. Tomorrows Daily Telegraph leads on the news that a number of orphaned british children caught up in the war in syria are to be brought home to the uk. The paper says the children were found in a camp last month and are due to return to the uk in the coming days. Prince andrew is still making some of the front pages, including the the metro which has a picture of the duke looking cheerful as he travelled to see the queen today. And the sun leads on the same story, reporting that the prince has been forced to cancel a planned trip to bahrain this week. That start off our chart with the general election. The mirror this time, and it is the labour manifesto our chat. Time, and it is the labour manifesto our chat. I think you could say the mirror likes the labour ma nifesto. The mirror likes the labour manifesto. Radical, as we have been talking about, it is a plan to change the entire way that britain is run. There is talk, someone was framing it as jeremy is run. There is talk, someone was framing it asJeremy Corbyn undoing the industrialisation that Margaret Thatcher did and wants to start up a new Industrial Revolution sort of thing, but this green industry is obviously incredibly expensive. So we come into questions about whether this is credible at all. Industrialisation, some people we would argue we are out of that phrase and over into the third or Fourth Digital age. Phase. Its not the same sort of Industrial Revolution, but is that the future . It has support from the paper. We are very much pro the manifesto. I think the point we have made is that there have been huge cards since the tories came into power in 2010 huge. Pay freezes and so on, and a lot of this is about undoing guard. So the tories have pledged to have 20,000 Police Officers undoing that, labour is only offering 22,000, slightly more, that replaces only the ones that were recently axed. So before you think you are the way things are run and changing the way things are run and changing the state, you are actuallyjust trying to get back to a certain level, and that is what this pay rise is getting out. Which, i think was actually quite a big policy to announce was actually quite a big policy to announce is getting at. Its a 5 pay rise for Public Sector workers who had the pay freeze, then they had 1 now 2 , its basically been below inflation for a long time. This is quite a big deal for quite a lot of people. I feel that has been buried a little bit. I read an interesting article by a former blair advisor. She liked most of the things in the manifesto, she did interpret it as undoing a lot of the stuff the tories did, but then there isa stuff the tories did, but then there is a lot more radical components on top of it. And social care, today, interestingly enough there has been a push for Cross Party Consensus to fix the social care crisis. Definitely. This is an issue that has dogged successive governments. They kept putting it off. And to give theresa may the benefit of the doubt, she was trying to do something about that. It was quickly dubbed the demands of tax because she was looking at people to pay for certain amounts of care through their own property. Previous labour attem pts their own property. Previous labour attempts were called the death tax. So is easy to nitpick and tear down. Actually, there was stuff about free homecare in visits, but there wasnt much about the whole system of care in the manifesto. The problem is what happens is parties come in, or successive governments come in on this issue and then as soon as it starts to get criticised they backtrack. They know old people actually voted. Lets turn to the guardian. This is their lead story. Its a time for real change, but realistic . Not if you listen to paul johnson of the ifs who says that if you are going to be spending £400 billion, then it cantjust be the people who are paying more than £80,000 or big operations that foot the bill, it will be all the way down the tax back to stop and as pauljohnson and many others have said, if you are attacking big business, you are attacking entrepreneurs, rich people leave the country, those people havejobs and investment tides of them and you run the risk of making britain borer. Tied to them, making britain poorer. A lot of those policies were surprisingly very popular. It was really clear cut, and talking to people who had been campaigning for the party, they saw it as a popular step on the doorstep because that would be quite easy to explain. People knew what they meant when they said we want to nationalise the rail, rather than previous attempts of tinkering around the edges. The worries this might be too much. And the real concern that labour has now isnt the message, but the messenger, it is jeremy isnt the message, but the messenger, it isJeremy Corbyns own popularity ratings. We are going to turn to the mail, they are also covering the story. Do you think it was the right time to pack so much into a manifesto . Yes, many people would be and will be attracted to some of those policies, but when you look at the numbers, almost double what they were looking to spend for 2017, is it too much at one time . On the one hand, as weve talked about before, its a sort of winner takes all situation. Jeremy corbyn is deeply unpopular. If he loses badly in this election, you have a lot of centrist mps in the labour party who have never really trusted corban or the father and the party will probably be taken by the centre centrists or moderates. However, this could be really popular among a lot of swing voters, labour moderates and things on top of that that mightjust moderates and things on top of that that might just alienate. Moderates and things on top of that that mightjust alienate. So it is attention grabbing, but it will no doubt hit hard. Nikolai, like you said, this was leaked to you, the details nicola. Did you get a feel of how the public were reacting to this . I think in terms of this ma nifesto . To this . I think in terms of this manifesto . I think that is the problem. Is this too much . Other sums problem. Is this too much . Other sums are the sums too big . A lot of people would like his policies but they dont trustJeremy Corbyn. What are they saying to you . They dont like him as a person, and they dont like him as a person, and they dont think hes patriotic enough. They have a lot of those traditional concerns. On the other problem is, you know, the massive brexit question which didnt feature a lot today because labour dont really wa nt to today because labour dont really want to talk about brexit. This is the other thing. The huge manifesto isa the other thing. The huge manifesto is a big distraction. There is very little about brexit in the ma nifesto. Little about brexit in the manifesto. Some people i spoke in the future. But they see this as their chance to get it done. I spoke to people who wanted to vote for boris because they think he will get brexit done, and then they will go back to labour in the future. There was an optimistic feeling, i think to the launch, which is that politics has been quite negative recently, so this has been refreshing. Yes, i agree, but the thing about that is in 2017 that was true as well. You had theresa may on the other side, there was never anything optimistic orjoyous about her, but borisjohnson has a sunny personality. Despite the gaffes . Yes, but he is not depressing, hes uplifting. If we are saying that Jeremy Corbyn was optimistic and there was hope about him, then i think the same can be said about borisjohnson. He has also promised a lot of spending himself. The sun were talking maybe about a different entity but probably the lib dems other most responsible. The tories have promised a lot of money. In a way that used to be labour was maxing, properly fund nhs and services, the tories are not. You can question the tories. But they cannot have the same traditional ground they used to have. Boris johnson conservatives are Jeremy Corbyn light, some people are saying. We will turn from a proclaimed tax robbery by the daily mail to concerns were going back to the 1970s and it wasnt a very good place for business on the front of the ft. To be fair, it is a pretty measured piece from the paper which represents the business community. The prawn cocktail offensive, but i do not think he has managed to win a lot of them around. The broad band and the nationalisation of broadband came as a huge surprise and also this windfall, willing gas, which she seemed to deny. It is kind of too late now. You are getting conflicting reviews because some of the papers are saying it is a one off and give ten times the amount we currently get from those sectors and when donald was question on this, he said this would benefit scotla nd on this, he said this would benefit scotland so you are thinking, is it uk wide or the moneyjust remains in scotla nd uk wide or the moneyjust remains in scotland as well. He seems quite good at back paddling. scotland as well. He seems quite good at back paddling. I would say as well, a lot of talking about windfall on all companies, talking about these different measures, they have been good at identifying the problems. It is a document which addresses a lot of peoples concerns. Whether the diagnosis is that correct, that makes them chime a lot with people because they are looking at things like the environment, gas bills, rent. The tories also doing stuff on that as well but there is a something for everyone , well but there is a something for everyone, as it were. Lets turn to the Daily Telegraph and a story that broke this evening. Uk sassou bring back the so called Islamic State children, offers. Starts to bring back. It looks like Dominic Raabe has won a little battle, bringing back children from isis territory. He seems to have one out. We do not know if the details but it looks as though these children were in a really dire situation and was the only possible thing the government could do but now we get all sorts of questions about whether they are orphans, if they are not we bring the parents with them. They have been very categorical about not bringing back anyone who has gone to syria to be part of Islamic State, even children, which a lot of people thought was really harsh. One of the harshest policies in the world. It is not going to go away because it brings up all of these issues about what it means to be a citizen, what is the punishment for going there, and then difficulties, if you bring people back, how do you find evidence of what people have done. It is very difficult to prosecute people so it is very complex. In the sun, still under the front pages, an u nfortu nate sun, still under the front pages, an unfortunate picture. Yes. It kind of feels like his so used to smiling he cannot stop himself and it seems to get more and more humiliating. He is trying to cling on to the business initiatives but you get the feeling that might be stripped away from him soon as that might be stripped away from him soon as well. It cannot really get much worse. No. Were going to and at that. Thats it for the papers tonight. Dont forget you can see the front pages of the papers online on the bbc news website. Its all there for you, seven days a week at bbc. Co. Uk papers. And if you miss the programme any evening you can watch it later on bbc iplayer. Heres your latest sports news the new tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has said he wont make the same mistakes at spurs that hes made at previous clubs. Mourinho described himself as humble in his first News Conference as tottenham boss, saying he spent his time away from football analysing his career. He also said that theres much to admire about what pochettino achieved in his time at the club. This is not about me coming here and saying everything was wrong. Not at all. I have just saying everything was wrong. Not at all. I havejust come saying everything was wrong. Not at all. So, hes back. Heres what a few of mourinhos rival managers make of his return. Everyone has his option to play football the way they want, to talk about what they want to say, and you cannot criticise. It is not my friend but he is not my enemy. Like i say, he brings an intensity and the time i worked with him he was a big influence for me as a young coach. When you look at his record, what he has done, the achievements he has got, i have seen it yesterday, the trophies he has one. Everywhere he has gone he has won leg. He is up there with as good as it is going to get. Great britain are through to the last eight of the davis cup finals in madrid after beating kazakhstan 2 1.
