Theres plenty more on our website thats bbc. Co. Uk news and on the bbc news app. Now its live to singapore for Asia Business report. Gubera disappointing. Shares are down after the latest earnings fell short of expectations. The us commerce secretary visits indonesia with a delegation of senior us business executives. Hello, and welcome to Asia Business report. Im sharanjit leyl. Welcome to Asia Business report. Im shara njit leyl. We welcome to Asia Business report. Im sharanjit leyl. We begin with uber because the rolled hailing doesnt ride hailing firm missed its expectations for monthly active users. While Street Investors are pleased with the numbers with shares following 5 in extended trading. This mirror has seen has more from new york. Does make filing. I think the biggest headline now is over 1 billion in losses for the quarter. That is a huge amount of money that the company has lost in the last three months. And if you look at the same time last year, we saw that that number is coming in at less than 1 billion was pretty staggering. So this is eye watering. And at losses actually despite the fa ct and at losses actually despite the fact that we see that people are using uber, there are 30 more people using the site, which is really pretty significant. And we arejust really pretty significant. And we are just talking the ride really pretty significant. And we arejust talking the ride hailing up which we all know about, but some of the other Services Like uber its, the other Services Like uber its, the Restaurant Delivery service. So it isa the Restaurant Delivery service. So it is a bit ofa the Restaurant Delivery service. So it is a bit of a mixed bag. We arent seeing any profitability from this company uber eats. Arent seeing any profitability from this company uber eats. And under armours shares fell over 20 after announcing it was being investigated for its accounting practices. It also cut its forecast for its four year sales growth. Well, talking trade now, us commerce secretary wilbur ross is visiting South East Asia this week, with a delegation of senior us business executives. One of those stops is indonesia, which is keen to retain its preferential trading status with the us. I was joined by lynn newman, the managing director for the American Chamber of commerce in jakarta earlier, director for the American Chamber of commerce injakarta earlier, and i asked what we could expect from the visit. I think the visit is significant in that we havent had a visit from an american commerce secretary to jakarta in many, many yea rs. Secretary to jakarta in many, many years. And the fact that the us has put this on his agenda, and hes coming with a delegation and Business Leaders the right message to the market and investors in ja ka rta to the market and investors in jakarta that the us is paying attention. We may see some progress on some of the issues that have held investment back from time to time in indonesia. You mentioned the senior delegation of business executives, his travelling with, of course. Will be from boeing. How do you think the trouble will play out for that Firm Considering all the backlash it has faced over the crushes over its 737 max aircraft, one on an indonesian carrier . The tragedy of the lion air plan because with the boeing 737 max lingers on here. We had the anniversary of that tragedy just last week. I know the company is doing its best to make amends, apologise and fix the relationship. Indonesias an enormously important country for boeing, one of the companys biggest customers. Im not involved with any of what they are doing but i think they are making the right moves by coming here with secretary ross, thats the right things to do, and boeing needs to show its presence to the market and continue to engage with the indonesian public and regulators. Bowing aside, how do you think this visit will come across against the backdrop of the trade rail between china and the us trade road. Secretary ross said they were going to get a phase i deal, which sounds like a bit of a pullback from the maximum that either country wanted. The china trade war is the £400 gorilla in the room, right . Everybody in indonesia would have markets impacted, exported to china and we expect to see discussion of it but i would like to see the result Going Forward on the indonesia agenda and the need for us businesses to get the right Regulatory Environment to invest more in indonesia and watch indonesia grow. I hope that china is a secondary topic while secretary rossis a secondary topic while secretary ross is here injakarta. A secondary topic while secretary ross is here in jakarta. That was lin neumann. As he mentioned, wilbur ross visit comes at a time when the fallout between the trade war in america and china has been felt in many countries in this region. Two economic giants are working towards finding some middle ground in their trade dispute, but not everyones happy about it. Many American Companies which manufacture clothing and china have been hit by the us tariffs, and the association that represents them says the current deal under negotiation doesnt help them at all. I asked rick alvin vine from the American Apparel and Footwear Association on why they cant move reduction away from china. We can build production so easily, thats a myth. These supply chains take 3 5 years to move. We cant move them in 3 5 months. We are stuck with what we have. China has been a great partner and we just cant vacate that quickly. Consequently we have to eat tariffs. What resolution would you like to see to benefit your side . Immediate relief from these september one, 15 tariff on notaro on december 15. No tariffs. I would call that a really good deal. The farmers would get a break and the retailers would suffer. Staying with trade, india has dealt a blow to the chinese by deciding not tojoin has dealt a blow to the chinese by deciding not to join the regional comprehensive economic partnership, otherwise known as rcep. I am joined by my Business Reporter colleague here, monica miller. Monica, why did they pull out of this . In the end, Prime Minister and arranger moody decided this wasnt going to be a good dealforfarmers, Business Owners and indian consumers. He really dug his heels in not signing onto this out of concern of cheap chinese goods that would infiltrate the market and similar products that india produces. And indias economy is really showing signs of slowing down. How this gone through, it would have meant 30 of global gdp, and it would have lived in half of the worlds population. Just remember india is 1. 3 billion people. It is a huge blow to beijing officials. They have been working on this Free Trade Agreement since 2012 and it was, after United States it isa and it was, after United States it is a big part of their one. One road initiative, but another 16 members and the pool is getting smaller and smaller in terms of what it is worth and how many people have signed on for all of this one belt one road initiative. Moran remotely says it would hurt the indian people. Monica miller, thank you for bringing us up to date on that. Lets talk about tourism now. No renderer moody. There are concerns that about environmental footprints as middle classes around the world from emerging economies seek a break. Laying out the new big picture when it comes to travel. It is one of the largest travel markets in the world, and why you are here . I hear you ask. This is big business. The Global Tourism industry generates 9 trillion of economic activity. This industry supports 320 million jobs on the planet. In fact if you look atjobs, for every five new on the planet. In fact if you look at jobs, for every five new jobs created, one of them goes into tourism. The big business. 10. 5 of Global Economic activity. And despite the concerns of a global slowdown, of course climate change, theissue slowdown, of course climate change, the issue being talked about here, how sustainable is Global Tourism . But despite those headwinds, this industry is still only going in one direction, and thats up last year Global Tourism grew by 4 , and many are predicting that will continue as we see more middle classes around the world coming out of those developing economies. Yeah. So the travel market, 50,000 people will be passing through these doors over the next three days and it is estimated they are going to generate about 4. 5 million worth of business. 180 countries and regions are represented. It is big business and it is all in the name of Global Tourism. The irrepressible Aaron Hassell has to there. Lets take a look at the markets now before we go. We know of course we are seeing some strong gains here in asia, particularly the negated 25 which is close by Public Holiday on monday which has reopened. And the hang seng is up slightly higher, the all ordinaries of that, flat, taking cues from weil street on hopes that talks between the us and china may be resolved. That is all for the show. Taking its cue from wall street. Lets bring you up to date with our main story this hour. Indias top court accuses state governments of failing to take real action to tackle delhis toxic smog. Turkey says its captured the elder sister of Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi leader of the Islamic State group killed in a us raid. The house of commons has elected sir Lindsay Hoyle as its new speaker, succeeding john bercow. Sir lindsay, originally a labour mp, was formerly Deputy Speaker and he secured a significant majority in the final round of voting. Our chief Political Correspondent vicki young reports. Were going to be hearing a lot more of this mans voice in the coming months as he oversees the next chapter in these tumultuous political times. According to parliamentary tradition, sir Lindsay Hoyle had to be dragged to the speakers chair where he made this promise. I will be neutral, i will be transparent, i think this house, we can do more to ensure that that transparency continues. His family were watching from the Public Gallery and he spoke of their heartache over the death of his 28 year old daughter. My daughter natalie, i wish she could have been here. We all miss her as a family, none more so than her mum. Ive got to say, she was everything to all of us, she will always be missed but will always be in our thoughts. Lindsay hoyle was elected the labour mp for chorley in 1997 and hes been Deputy Speaker for nine years. Hes steeped in politics his dad was also an mp. His pets are named after famous politicians, a dog called gordon, a tortoise named maggie, a parrot named boris. Im now going to call, for the first time, the Prime Minister. The kindliness of the speaker is absolutely critical to our confidence and the way we behave, and mr speaker, over the years i have observed that you have many good qualities. People are put under enormous stress, both staff and members of this house. I know you take your responsibilities in that area very, very seriously. The speakers appearance might have changed over the years but their role in keeping order in the commons is as crucial as ever. They can influence what gets debated, and some thought john bercow went too far, bending the rules to side with anti brexit mps. Sir Lindsay Hoyles supporters say he will adopt a down to earth, calm approach when he swaps his lancastrian home for the grand speakers residence in the palace of westminster. This speaker is unlikely to be as controversial as the last. Vicki young, bbc news. More on our website. Im on social media. Mike will be here at 2 00. Now on bbc news sport today.
