Unconventional, may be. Unpredictable, definitely. Buta meeting arranged for your president ial twitter has just ensured these two men a place in history. Donald trump didntjust ta ke history. Donald trump didntjust take one step into hostile territory, he took 20. Before returning south over the official military line which separates the two koreas. He may be a show man by nature, but alas that the last minute nature of this event meant that there was a scramble for closes. Donald trump crossed over the line which made him the first us president to visit our country. The line which made him the first us president to visit our countrylj didnt president to visit our country. didnt expect it as part of the 620. Icame overand didnt expect it as part of the 620. I came over and said, didnt expect it as part of the 620. I came overand said, im didnt expect it as part of the 620. I came over and said, im over here, i want to meet chairman kim. Stepping across that line was a great honour. A lot of progress has been made, a lot of friendships have been made, a lot of friendships have been made, a lot of friendships have been made, and this has been in particular a great friendship, so i just want to thank you. That was very quick notice, and i want to thank you. And it seems that more invitations may be forthcoming. thank you. And it seems that more invitations may be forthcoming. I am going to invite him right now to the white house. The two held talks behind closed doors. It was meant to last minutes but lasted an hour. President trump acknowledged that his twitter invitation could have gone horribly wrong. his twitter invitation could have gone horribly wrong. I want to thank chairman kim for Something Else. When i put out the social media notification, if he didnt show up, the press was going to make me look very bad, so you made us both look good, andl very bad, so you made us both look good, and i appreciate it. The drama didnt end there. The farewell wave was lost in the chaos. As President Trump leave, it has been criticised asa trump leave, it has been criticised as a photo opportunity. There has been very little mention of the word denuclearisation. But others believe that this could, after nearly 70 yea rs, that this could, after nearly 70 years, lead that this could, after nearly 70 yea rs, lead to that this could, after nearly 70 years, lead to peace on the peninsula. Are very good meeting once the meeting was over, donald trump appeared along his south korean host, president moon. He explained that sanctions would be on the agenda for any future talks. dont like sanctions being on his country. But the sanctions remain, yes. At some point during the negotiation, things can happen, and thats what well be talking about. 0nce thats what well be talking about. Once again, the us president may face criticism that this meeting was more style than substance, but it is another fresh start. The more style than substance, but it is anotherfresh start. The hope here in south korea is that this time it wont be a false one. A pregnant woman who was fatally stabbed yesterday in croydon has been named as 26 year old kelly mary fauvrelle. And, well, we look out the window, and we saw full of police and ambulances on the street. Then, um. After about ten minutes, i saw someone from the ambulance come out with a baby, and they put the baby in the ambulance. Others were distressed that Something Like this could happen on their street. I think the feeling is upset, upset for her. Hopeful for the child, but the neighbours were definitely, definitely upset. Forensic officers have been at the address today, later blocking off the street to conduct further searches. A 29 year old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder. The shadow chancellor, John Mcdonnell, says labour needs to move now towards support for another brexit referendum. Mr mcdonnell, who wants the party to adopt a remain position, said Jeremy Corbyn was still trying to build consensus with the trade unions on the issue. Heres our Political Correspondent tom barton. They are two ofJeremy Corbyns closest lieutenants, John Mcdonnell, his shadow chancellor, and len mccluskey, the leader of the unite union, labours biggest financial backer and a close ally of the pa rtys backer and a close ally of the partys leader. But over brexit they are divided. In the last few months, John Mcdonnell has become one of a number of members of the shadow cabinet to move towards supporting another referendum. And today, he admitted he was a little bit frustrated at the partys policy that the partys policy hasnt done the same. We agree we should put it back to the people. We want a general election but we have to go back to the people on any deal or no deal, or certainly a referendum. The discussion then is about what attitude labour should take, and i have said publicly that i would vote remain and campaign for remain. But that other big beast of labour politics, len mccluskey, says the party needs to look before it leaps, suggesting John Mcdonnell was panicking. I dont believe that there is a panic, and my message to everybody is, stop panicking, stop putting pressure on jeremy everybody is, stop panicking, stop putting pressure onJeremy Corbyn. He is demonstrating real leadership by seeking a consensus view across oui by seeking a consensus view across our party. Jeremy corbyn, change your mind it is notjust in labours top ranks where there is a discussion taking place over the pa rtys discussion taking place over the partys brexit policy. Some members are calling for the party to take a stronger remain position. 0thers are calling for the party to take a stronger remain position. Others say the referendum result needs be respected. But these two men will be key to how labour finally resolves this tricky debate. Meanwhile, the two tory leadership candidates have been outlining their spending plans. And tom is with me now. What have they been saying . Both candidates have been talking up their economic credentials, Boris Johnson saying he would use unexpectedly high tax takes to invest in building projects at the same as invest in building projects at the same as time as cutting taxes. He said he would be willing to borrow to invest. Jeremy hunt told andrew marr he would also use that so called fiscal headroom to cut taxes and invest, but he warned that a no deal brexit would mean he would have to pull much of that spending to allow him to support business. However, he insisted that wouldnt stop him from delivering a no deal brexit if the eu proved unwilling to negotiate. Tom, thank you very much. More now on that meeting between us President Donald Trump and the leader of north korea, kim jong un. It took place at the demilitarised zone on the korean border where mr trump became the first sitting president to step across the border and onto north korean soil. Well, before President Trump departed for washington, he gave a speech at the 0san airbase in south korea. He was keen to highlight the historical significance of what went on this morning. We had a very productive meeting. I outlined the incredible prosperity that awaits north korea when this whole thing gets settled. I have been talking about this for a long time but that is a country with tremendous potential. I stepped into north korea. And they say that is a very historic moment and i think it is a historic moment a very good moment. He asked me would you like to do it . I said it would be my honourand we did. We went over the line and turned around and everybody was so happy. And many people, i know this, in korea where they were literally in tears, crying. Its a big thing. Joining me now is james hoare, a Research Associate specialising in korea at soas. You spend some time in north korea, you are a diplomat and set up the british embassy. Lets talk about that place we saw. Went about 30 times in the south and five or six times in the south and five or six times from the north. It has been a theatrical set since 1953 when the armistice was signed there. And the building isa armistice was signed there. And the building is a sort of frame area and you can take dramatic shots and the cameras are up you can take dramatic shots and the cameras are up high. It is very easy to set up the stage so it looks dramatic. This morning it did look like the gunfight at the 0k dramatic. This morning it did look like the gunfight at the ok corral as they walked towards each other. You can see a lot of panicky officials on all sides. This was an unscripted, not entirely unscripted but basically something no preparation had been done for. We had a tweet yesterday and donald trump saying i said i am coming would you like to see me . There must have been some kind of preparations. You would think so but i dont know whether there was. There have been bright meetings going on background meetings going on between the two sides of the concern was the unit sections. Whether they would ever discuss a formal meeting like this i dont know. It did actually look rather spontaneous but you can make things look spontaneous. Look rather spontaneous but you can make things look spontaneousm could all be part of the theatre. What about the substance of the relationship between the two countries . Do you feel it has progress . Hanoi was a bit of a setback. Not entirely, they did not break off contact but it became more difficult. This is where they said we will just walk away. Difficult. This is where they said we willjust walk away. They ended up we willjust walk away. They ended up walking away. Each side putting forward absolutist demands which has a lwa ys forward absolutist demands which has always been one of the problems. If you want to get progress with north korea you have to accept we will not get everything at once however much you may want that. I was a little bit unpleasant to put it mildly. But the problems remain. Both sides want something absolutely. They both want absolute security which neither will get. The north once all sanctions lifted but is prepared it says to compromise and only have some lifted. The american side says all nuclear ability, notjust lifted. The american side says all nuclear ability, not just the weapons with the ability to have Nuclear Weapons should go. That will not happen either. Maybe we are seeing a stage now where we are going to back away from those absolute demands and come to something rather less but it would be progress. Of the interesting contrast is between how donald trump is handling the threat of north korea becoming a Nuclear Armed power and the threat of iran becoming a Nuclear Armed power. What do you make of the contrast in his approaches . Well, i think that in essence, that is not much difference. They dont want Nuclear Powers that might have the ability to deliver a Nuclear Weapon to the united states, that is a great fear. But because of the area contacts having had a very bad year in 2017 between them, they have meant that Donald Trumps understanding or knowledge about north korea is greater than it is about iran. That, i think is a better basis to go forward on. With iran he has adopted from the start of very hostile approach, which is what you did with north korea except there have always been one or two caveats with north korea. Yes, i could sit down and have a hamburger with kim jong un. He has never suggested anything of the kind with the ayatollah. he has never suggested anything of the kind with the ayatollah. I think it is different. It is not the basic problems are pretty intractable if you approach them in the way which is been done but i think he has got a little further with north korea. He may feel that he can do some sort of deal with kim jong un and so he is prepared to go on with it. Plus, he is not stupid and some form of International Acclaim coming from some sort of agreement with north korea that would actually play well ina korea that would actually play well in a potential election contest. So, you know, hopeful but not too hopeful. Thank you very much for coming into the studio. Grieving families will no longer have to cover burial or cremation costs when a child dies under a new government scheme. Each year around 3,800 children die, with a further 2,700 stillbirths. The Childrens Funeral Fund aims to ensure families wont have to pay Funeral Directors in england for burials or cremations from next month. That moment of tragedy, when families will be thinking about the child they have lost, having to work out how to pay for and arrange a funeral is just Something Else that they really dont want to have to worry about. What were doing here is trying to take away that worry about how you can pay for that funeralfrom them. You pay for that funeral from them. Everyone whose child dies in the context of england will be eligible, we are not means testing this. Itjust removes that extra worry and stress at a very difficult time for families. The new funding announcement follows a cross Party Campaign led by the swansea east mp Carolyn Harris after the death of her eight year old son martin. She spoke to my colleagues on bbc breakfast about the campaign. The Welsh Government introduced a childrens funeral months of me mentioning it, and scotland came aboard somewhat later and then Northern Ireland and now we it across the united kingdom. Can you tell me about the tragic circumstances of losing your son . I was a dinner lady at the time and my husband was a manual worker on the railway. We lost martin in 1989 in a road accident, completely unexpected and be given the best funeral we could and within three weeks of that funeral we had the bill which at the time was for £1750. And we just didnt have the money. The local community had a whip round and give us e1000 and then my husband went to the bank and borrowed £750 and thats how we paid for the funeral. Network rail has made an indicative offer to buy part of British Steel, which went into liquidation last month. Bidders have until the end of today to make offers for all or part of the firm. The offer is to take over the section of British Steel that welds, finishes and stores rails. From stormzy, to the killers to kylie later this afternoon. This years glastonbury certainly hasnt been short of big names and stars, but whats the festival like for up and coming bands making their first appearance . Weve followed two british bands whove both been signed by a huge label in the us and are on the rise here in the uk idles and fontaines dc. Fiona lamdin was waiting to meet them as they came off stage yesterday afternoon. This is one of the most magnificent moments in our lives. And to be playing one of glastonburys biggest stages for their debut shows just how far idles have come in the last two years. Weve waited 12 years to play here. This punk rock bands latest album joy as an act of resistance reached number five in the album charts. We met frontman joe talbot just moments after they came off stage. Weve got to be quick because im doing something on tv. They have a huge following. Meaning our interview took a while to get going. Youre amazing. One of the best gigs of my life. This was the 12th selfie. And to play to a stunning audience and to my wife and child, im never going to forget it. Its the best thing ever. Halfway through their performance it just got too much forjoe. And within minutes, his wife and newborn baby came up on stage. Thats my babys first. Thats my babys first show. She was asleep through the whole thing. When did you think this is happening . Ive made it. Right now. Really . Tonight . Yeah. This is stunning. Sometimes in your life its ok to allow yourself to take a breath and accept what youve done and pat yourself on the back. And that moment was tonight . Yeah. Im so happy for you guys. Later, in the backstage bar, more people delighted to seejoe, but these arentjust regular fans. Meet fontaine dc, a less well known band who are also signed by the same label. A postpunk band from dublin, they only released their first album in april. They may be less famous than idles right now but they were still spotted by a keen fan. Earlier they played on glastonburys john peel stage, definitely their biggest gig to date. You think id love to do that but its always in that kind of sphere of dreams where you kind of think they are just dreams, and then suddenly they stop being that. Playing here at glastonbury was a first for these bands. Something they could both only dream of. A performance, an experience, neither will forget. Eu leaders will head back to brussels this evening for a special meeting to try and agree on who should be the next president of the european commission. They failed to agree on a candidate at the last eu summit earlier this month and finding the right balance for the different eu top jobs is proving to be a difficult task. Adam fleming has been considering the possible candidates. Wanted, a new president of the european commission. The current holder of the post is jean claude juncker. Responsibilities drafting new eu laws, making sure existing eu laws are followed and representing the eu in tricky international politics. Needs to be. Should be. Should have. Salary around 300,000 euros a year, minus eu tax plus an entertainment allowance. Perks a staff of more than 30,000 and a seat at summits of eu leaders. Eu leaders come up with a name, then the nominee has to be approved by a majority of the european parliament. They wanted it to go to somebody who had explicitly campaigend for the role during the european elections and came from one of europes political families. Someone like manfred weber, who leads the centre right in the european parliament. 0r frans timmermans, the dutch Vice President , who represents the centre left. 0r margrethe vestager, the competition commissionerfrom denmark margrethe vestager, the competition commissioner from denmark who represented the liberals but parliament can settle on anyone. Neither can the leaders and it has become a bit of a power struggle between them. So it could end up being a compromise candidate like Michel Barnier someone from the world bank. Someone will cheer the group for world bank. Someone will cheer the groupforup to world bank. Someone will cheer the group for up to five years and is normally a former prime minister. The high representative who is kind of like the eu foreign minister but also kind of not like the eu foreign minister. And the president of the European Central bank who is usually a European Central banker and will be in office for eight years. All five jobs be in office for eight years. All fivejobs are being be in office for eight years. All five jobs are being treated as one package which has to be divided up by geography, north, south, east and west. Politics, so the rights, the left, the liberals and the greens. By left, the liberals and the greens. By gender and by bigger countries than smaller ones. It is all a big old mix of politics and power and personality. Watch out for the italians, the luxembourg is and the belgians who historically have proved to be very good at playing it. We will find out more about that meeting this evening. I think they are on the look for compromise candidates. Do you fancy a change of job matt from doing the weather . Keep me away from politics.
