This is the whitby goth festival, and this year its celebrating its 25th anniversary. Wow, some of these costumes are just so impressive, they really make an effort. Many places dry with hazy sunshine, thatjacket looks incredible tell me about the story behind this . But get ready for showers and thunderstorms. Its sunday the 23rd ofjune. Our top story a neighbour of tory leadership hopeful borisjohnson and his partner has defended calling the police after overhearing a row at the couples flat, well, this is what i call wearable sculpture. And passing a recording i took reference from sort of the incident to a newspaper. Of old mansion houses the story continues to dominate and cathedrals, and took the architecture, the front pages of the papers today. And thought about, you know, our Political Correspondent nick eardleyjoins us live now what more can applying it to fabric. Could you give us a little spin . You tell us about this . Of course, mate. Oh, my days. Look at the intricacy on the back its not going away, is it . The the stained glass panels actually are backlit, papers are full this morning of so at night time we flick on and they actually illuminate. Oh, wow, looking around here, questions about the motives for im feeling really underdressed. Passing the recording onto the i reckon i could sort you out guardian newspaper, some Boris Johnson allies on twitter raising with a sort of nice jacket and a nice hat. Similar questions about why exactly think goth, and most people the people who call the police also think of dark clothing, gave that recording to the a gloomy attitude, and the post punk newspaper. Phnom penh, the man who music of the 1980s. Made the recording, has broken his is goth still a big thing, then . Silence, speaking to the guardian, and basically said he was worried huge, its getting bigger about the safety of the people in and bigger all the time. The flat, Boris Johnson about the safety of the people in the flat, borisjohnson and his and what about all this stuff . Girlfriend, saying he and his wife this is really cool, isnt it . Knocked on the door three times, got no answer, and afterwards thought thats a clock they had to call the police. Also look at that. This is it, this is clever stuff. Saying they think it is in the Public Interest for you and i do is that not cool . That is cool. Know that this happened, for the not sure if i will get simple reason that borisjohnson is past customs with that. Running for the top job in the whoa, lets see this. Yeah. Country. Yesterday they had the first hustings in birmingham, jeremy is that not cool, huntand or is that not cool . First hustings in birmingham, jeremy it is cool. Hunt and Boris Johnson, first hustings in birmingham, jeremy hunt and borisjohnson, the two contenders. Iain dale, the compere, a lot of people, including myself, repeatedly asked Boris Johnson about this. A couple of people pointed out are guilty of having a stereotypical view of the goth movement, to us that he was booed for continually pushing the question. But do you think you get recognised for the quality of the art . Having said that, a few people because what i am seeing here is amazing. Yeah, well, the craftsmanship called out, answer the question, but he didnt really address the in some cases is extraordinary, worthy of standing question. In some ways, that is the nature of hustings. Borisjohnson in any art gallery anywhere. Was pushed on the issue but he clearly didnt want to answer it. The event has come a long way since it started in 1994, when founderjo hampshire had the idea to bring together goths the argument his team are making is from all over the uk. That he has never spoken about his i thought that whitby was quite central in the country, private life in public before, and but i also made the mistake he is not going to change his mind of thinking there must be now. The hustings is interesting for lots of dracula conventions here, a bunch of other reasons, both sides and they would see explaining more about their brexit goths all the time. Policies, about what they want to do for country. Because of the bram stoker thing . Yeah, but in fact that wasnt true. All these black clad people turned i thought boris was fantastic, up at the town was like, he was electric, the room whoa, satanists visited the town came alive when he entered the room and spoke. He was brilliant. Jeremy surprised me, i have to say. And so there was a bit of an uproar, he came over much better the police came around and everything. Than i thought he would, seriously . And it is food for thought. Yeah, totally, and then people asked me if i would do it again, and then the town sort what did you think about questions of got into it then. About borisjohnsons personal life . They kind of quite liked us to come. It was inevitable given the timing and how proud do you feel to have that he would be asked, turned this tiny festival and probably inevitable that he would choose not into this big event now . To answer. I think that for me, its great, this is where all those people who are maybe alone, or kind of in Little Pockets in their own town, interesting, that, isnt it, that get to be the big fish in the pond forjust a weekend, and the group of punky alternative conservative members dont seem to people have formed this little kind of allegiance and affinity be particularly concerned about the allegations involving borisjohnson. 15 more hustings to go across the with a little local community. Country, so plenty more questions to be asked. And lots more coverage as well. The goth weekend also the Foreign Office minister, hosts other events that andrew murrison, will call share its welcoming tone. For the urgent deescalation of tensions in the gulf, when he holds talks in iran today. Lets get more on this so were here today for the first from our middle eastern correspondent tom bateman who is in fujairah in the united arab emirates. Audition in our 2019 model contest. So, this model contest aims to promote and celebrate diversity how sensitive do you think the within the modelling industry. Situation is becoming . how sensitive do you think the situation is becoming . I think in goths, punks, people with tattoos, terms of this particular trip it piercings, body modifications. Would have been planned for a while, so it really is a wide but its timing really matters. That is because the sense of danger here range of individuals. In the golf is far from over. It is this competition really is sort only two or three days since the of allowing people to say, this is who i am, im proud iranians shot down a us drone here of who i am, im an individual and what were disputed and i stand out. Circumstances. President trump then its making me look like a mugshot, revealed he was moments away from like im in prison. Take it away authorising a retaliatory strike against the iranians, but said in the end he decided not to do that because he feared iranians loss of life. What happens next . Todays talks with the foreign minister in some people might find the goth style a little intimidating but, tehran will focus on the nuclear i have to say, deal that the us withdrew from last the whitby goth festival is a fun, inclusive event where everyone year, but which many european is made to feel welcome. Countries are still part of. Iran their next weekend takes will be pushing britain i think to help with relief from american sanctions, which have crippled the place from october 25 27. Iranian economy, ever since the americans pulled up last year. I think all of this is adding to the sense of volatility here in the golf. And what we had from the president is a lot of confusion, where on one hand he said they could be best friends if they agreed to good morning, welcome to breakfast with rogerjohnson stop pursuing Nuclear Weapons on his terms, but also that if there was a conflict that came to this part of the world, there would be an obliteration. A Large Scale Campaign to plant forgeries and fake content on twitter and facebook has been uncovered by a group of researchers. The Atlantic CouncilsDigital Forensic research lab says the material originates from russia and is still going on, but it has had little impact. All the russian state has always dismissed claims it is involved in these types of so called influence operations. Union members have raised concerns over unpaid trial shifts where employers ask potential staff to work, before deciding whether or not to keep them on. Unite claims a loophole in the law allows some employers to use inexperienced people as free labour. Sangita myska reports. Like thousands of teenagers this summer, 16 year old mia had been looking for a part time job. When a local cafe responded to her cv with the offer of a trial shift, she was elated. She says she spent seven hours waitressing on a busy saturday but was not offered any work or paid the minimum wage. I dont think its fair at all, that we would not get paid. Just because we are young, i think we should still be treated like adults, and the fact we are young doesnt mean we shouldnt be able to get the job or anything like that. It is interesting that so many other people have posted a similar experience to you. When her dad, shaun, posted mias experience on tv, he says dozens of parents wrote back saying their kids had experienced the same thing. What does the law say . According to the government it is illegal to employ anyone on an unpaid work trial for what it calls an excessive period of time or if there is nojob on offer. But trying to prove exactly what an excessive period of time is, or whether there was ever a job in the offing, is difficult to prove, especially if you are a young and inexperienced. The guidelines that they put out kind of give a bit of a loophole to the employer so they can say that this is a genuine trial and we need to assess if the person is right for the job. Thatjust creates a situation where employers can take advantage. Having someone there for five hours or an entire day is not a trial shift, that his working time and people should be paid for that. After the bbc contacted the cafe where mia had had her trial shift, she received a text message saying that she had not gotten the job as a waitress, and that her travel expenses would now be reimbursed. Some of englands rivers are reaching crisis point, according to conservationists, with Climate Change and water extraction being blamed. Last years heatwave and dry winter caused chalk streams across the country to dry up, because the underground layer which feeds them, the aquifer, had next to no source of water. Campaigners, including an 80s popstar, are calling for urgent action as tom edwards reports. This is one of only 200 red chalk rivers in the world, but like many in the chilterns, this once rich habitat has dried up. Fergal sharkey, the former musician, says decades of Water Companies taking and over obstructing water has pushed chalk streams over the edge. This river should be full of more waterfalls than you could possibly count, kingfishers and it should be the best habitat on the planet. Its not. We have a muddy, grassy ditch, driven by incompetence. Most chalk streams in the world are in england. They emerge from chalk aquifers and have very pure water. Hearing the chilterns it very different. Campaigners want Water Companies to introduce restrictions on water use, and drive down demand for water. They also say Climate Change is having an impact. Climate change is also reducing the recharged window for the chalk aquifer. In other words, the growing season is longer and plants take a lot of water out of the soils. The time period in which rainfall can soak into the aquifer is reducing. The Environment Agency that regulates obstruction says it has to balance supply and the environment. It says customers should use water responsibly and it has cut obstructions, but campaigners say much stronger action is needed to stop this talk stream crisis. Is needed to stop this talk stream crisis. Chalk. At the age of 21 australian sara zelenak, was the youngest victim of the London Bridge terror attack. She was on a night out with friends when she was stabbed. Later that month she was due to meet her parents in paris, and thats where theyre heading today on a special bike ride in her memory. Theyre setting off from Borough Market in south london and our reporterjon donnison is with them. I think you have them with you, so wish them luck from us and away you go. We have about 40 riders taking pa rt go. We have about 40 riders taking part this morning, setting off in about 20 minutes. The writers include some of the survivors from the London Bridge attacks, as well as some of the First Responders from the emergency services. Saras pa rents a re the emergency services. Saras parents are here with me, julie and mark. What does it feel like to be here this morning . I am really honoured and excited for everyone to be here. The crowd and the people and the energy is electrifying, and we have put a lot of time and effort into this. The love and support we have received from home, from australia, and the london people, is overwhelming, so i feel really blessed. Mark, you have been here for several months for the inquest into the attacks. It must mean a lot to you to have some of those First Responders here. 100 . Many to you to have some of those First Responders here. 10096. Many of them are taking part in the first couple of days and then the finish, working around their own personal family commitments, and otherwise they will be here. Tell us about the ride. It isa be here. Tell us about the ride. It is a seven day ride, we are taking a nice and easy to get from here to paris. You dont have to be an athlete to completed. We arent and neither are athlete to completed. We arent and neitherare our athlete to completed. We arent and neither are our friends we will be doing this every year the last week ofjune. Saras sanctuary is a not for profit healing retreat established in the name of our daughter, sara, who was stabbed to death in the Borough Market s attack. All of our family and supporters have joined the attack. All of our family and supporters havejoined the ride and we wa nt supporters havejoined the ride and we want to help people who have suffered shock sudden death, so we have holistic healing, they can come into the sanctuary and do as much or as little as they need depending on how they feel, because grief is a personal journey. And we how they feel, because grief is a personaljourney. And we teach them the skills to be able to cope so they can survive in life and move on. Most people cant, so it needs to be done. This is our purpose in life now. Good luck today, thank you both very much indeed. The right is about to get under way in about ten minutes. We have a ceremony that is going to take place, and flowers being laid to commemorate the victims of those attacks. Sir mick jagger has proved he still has the moves, even after major surgery. He made an energetic return to the stage in chicago last night, just a few months after having a heart valve replacement. The Rolling Stones no filter tour was postponed in april to allow the frontman to recover, and judging by these pictures, he seems fighting fit once more. How old is he . He is 75 not bad at 75. A lifetime of ha rd he is 75 not bad at 75. A lifetime of hard living clearly didnt do him too much harm. Itll be conservative Party Members around the country who will decide who our next Prime Minister will be, so what did they make of borisjohnson and jeremy hunts performances at yesterdays hustings in birmingham . Marcus harrington and Marshall Tisdale are both Young Conservatives but have rather different views on who should win the race for number 10. Slightly different views on who you think should end up in number 10. In general, do you feel quite a responsibility . This is the person, isa responsibility . This is the person, is a mention, who will end up as our next Prime Minister. A lot of people feel resentful, outraged, even, that they get no sense at all and it is down to you guys. It is the members privilege to pick the next Prime Minister. As members we are going to ta ke minister. As members we are going to take that role very seriously. We will look at each candidate, their platforms, and think it was best to lead this country through brexit and beyond. Both of you have preferred candidates. Marshall, you support jeremy hunt, marcus, you support borisjohnson. Are you allowing yourself time to open up the possibility of being converted to the other side . Of course. I feel like in politics if you dont listen to anyone elses opinions of use you will absolutely isolate you from the issues that you maybe havent looked for for borisjohnson or issues that you maybe havent looked for for Boris Johnson or jeremy hunt. At the end of the day, if it comes to it, borisjohnson may not be the candidate for me and i would go forjeremy be the candidate for me and i would go for jeremy hunt. Be the candidate for me and i would go forjeremy hunt. Here is the difficult bit, for both of you, what will it take, marcus, forjeremy hunt to convince you to switch and, muscle, vice versa . Hunt to convince you to switch and, muscle, viceversa . With jeremy hunt, the problem is for me where he stands on brexit. It doesnt like brexit from day one full top the Party Members to back brexit. They need to back brexit. He is now saying he will deliver it. He is saying he will deliver it. He is saying he will deliver it. I think we would just have a theresa may two ten. That is where we have a person who used to support remain theresa may 2. 0. We want someone who supported brexit from day one. So he cant convince you, in other words . Even though i am his views, he cant convince me. He cant convince me on that. Marshall, how can Boris Johnson convince you to switch from jeremy hunt . He needs to put a rain on his mouth, really. He is a bit volatile with the things he says. On his mouth, really. He is a bit volatile with the things he saysm he did that. Is what he is saying enticing . If you start thinking of taking responsibility for his words and actions, then maybe i can see this man leading us if he starts thinking and taken responsibly. This man leading us if he starts thinking and taken responsiblym was what he wasnt saying yesterday that has caused most controversy. It was asked questions about his personal life, and all the papers this morning they talk about this iow this morning they talk about this row police were called to add his girlfriends life and he batted away the questions. There are, inevitably, questions about his personality in the papers this morning and is he a Security Risk . As he got a volatile temper . Can he be trusted . Of course, certainly can. His charisma is what makes them so can. His charisma is what makes them so relatable to the public. Is he relatable to the bublik . so relatable to the public. Is he relatable to the bublik . I think he is. Relatable to the bublik . I think he is. Public. Iwould argue relatable to the bublik . I think he is. Public. I would argue that most politicians their Life Experience is different to the ordinary person. Borisjohnson has charisma and humour. It is actually human. The issue that happened at the end of the day with his wife. Girlfriend. His girlfriend. That to me, that is not an issue. That is his personal life. It shows how he is more relatable to people, in a sense. If he has rows with the girlfriend and the police are called. Everyone always has rows with the girlfriend. Perhaps not at that level. Police were called and it is important that the police have said that they dont need to take it further. It is for them to figure out. This is why jeremy hunt is up against. The force of his personality, all that stuff does not matter to the people who back in. Personality, all that stuff does not matter to the people who back inm terms of other aspects of his character, it should matter, like they have said, the things he has said and done in the past, those things matter. In terms of this one, isolated incident, it is about his own personal life. And so long as the police feel there is no need to move forward, we should let them sort it privately and focus on his track record as foreign secretary and on the policy. Jeremy hunt has so many good policies coming out where as you look at boris and you think he is all personality, he doesnt have that sort of oedema detail thatjeremy has. Doesnt have that sort of oedema detail that jeremy has. Thank you both are coming in. Nice to see you, marshall, marcus, thank you, good luck making your mind up. Whether it is will have to unite you both in the end. 90 misbah seven. Heres nick with a look at this mornings weather. Good morning to you. More blue skies from yesterday. You are showing us what we have and may not see again for a while. It is an easyjob this, talk about what happened yesterday. You cant get that wrong. A lovely day yesterday. People talking about that. There are changes ahead. Some of us are going to be dealing with torrential, thundery downpours over the next few days. They could cause some problems. Emphasis on some. Later in the week it looks like things will settle down and temperatures are going to rise going into next weekend. We will look at that in a moment. Looking at the sunday setup, low pressure to the south west. In this weather front is getting closer. High pressure clinging on elsewhere. After all that sunshine yesterday they will be more cloud around. You are noticing that from the word go in many places. Hazy sunshine to come. Maybe the odd shower into northern scotland. Outbreaks of rain to cornwall and across South West England pushing into south wales and reaching some in northern ireland. Some of this could be turning quite heavy maybe with a rumble of thunder. Temperatures a little lower for someone north sea coast with more of a breeze, more of a breeze across the uk. Mid 20s in east anglia in south east england. Looking at this evening, the rain, as it moves north and the chance of seeing some torrential, thundery downpours out of that, especially across parts of north wales and Northern England. 20 50 millimetres. Not all of us seeing that but the potential is there. Perhaps more in the wetter parts of scotland on three monday is this first batch of heavy rain to start the day. There isa heavy rain to start the day. There is a risk in some spots of things and flash flooding. There will be some lightning, hail, gusty winds out of this as well on three monday, further thundery downpours breaking out. On through. Many places away from the stumps will have fun with an hazy sunshine, high teens, low 20s, the latest area of storms affecting scotland three monday night. Another one arrives across South West England, is in england on into tuesday morning. There could be frequent lightning without an torrential downpours, clearing to some sunny spells. Often a good deal of cloud on tuesday. The chance of catching a further isolated showers storming to the afternoon. A fairly active few days of weather on their way and there could be some disruption from those areas that do pick up some storms. Later in the week it is High Pressure around. The flow of air week it is High Pressure around. The flow ofaircoming week it is High Pressure around. The flow of air coming from a continent which is heating up this week and so it is turning warmer forest gradually this week. Higher humidity. It is at the end of the week and into next week and some spots may be breaking the 30 celsius mark. We may see 25, 20 six degrees in western scotland as well. Some north sea ghosts would be cool and misty 26. Coasts. It is not going to be a washout everywhere. There is time in all of that forecast for a bit of sunshine occasionally. That is how it is looking. Back to you. Good news. It will be hot and steamy next week. Looking. Back to you. Good news. It will be hot and steamy next weekm is 7 23. Good morning. Youre watching breakfast from bbc news, its time now for a look at the newspapers. Former comment editor for the times Tim Montgomerie is here to tell us whats caught his eye. Well speak to tim in a minute. First lets look at the front pages. One story dominates the front pages again this morning and it centres around borisjohnson. The telegraph leads with mrjohnsons neighbours defending their decision to call the police, after overhearing a row at the couples flat and handing a recording over to the press. The sunday express asks why the tory leader hopeful brushed aside questions about the incident at a hustings event in birmingham yesterday. The sunday times leads with claims byjeremy hunts camp that borisjohnson is a Security Risk. While the mail talks about the impact the incident has had on mrjohnsons rating in the polls. It suggests jeremy hunt is now in front. Let us start with this. There is no avoiding it in the papers this morning. If you are sick of it, then avoid the papers today. This is the sun. We know the basics of this incident now. We had this couple ring the police after they heard a lot of noise coming from boriss flat with his girlfriend. Now the papers are digging into houthis people are, who rang the police. It is one thing to ring the police if you are worried about a woman, a neighbour, that is a sensible thing to do, but to ring the papers and to ring the guardian, a left leaning newspaper after the police have said the couple are happy and are safe, thatis the couple are happy and are safe, that is a different thing who these people are. There is quite a history of this couple tweeting anti boris, andy theresa may stuff. They are play writers. Is a tory leading papers. As they tell it, they were genuinely concerned with what was going on inside that flight these are. A lot of us would be if we had that kind of disruption, noise. Whatever your political views, from their point of view, it came from the right place, it is in place. If you hear the noise that has been described in the papers, absolutely if you are concerned you would ring the police. What do you then, after the police have told you then, after the police have told you the couple are ok, do you then ring the couple are ok, do you then ring the guardian . I think because of the stop because of the. There are tweets from these people attacking the tories. Then you begin to think there is a political agenda. Then it comes down to the question of is it releva nt, comes down to the question of is it relevant, important for us to know . Wrote they say they thought it was. In terms of his character. Wrote they say they thought it was. In terms of his characterlj wrote they say they thought it was. In terms of his character. I dont know about you two, but i have had rows inside my own home with friends and family before and, my goodness, and family before and, my goodness, a hot summers evening, if they had left the window open, may be had two glasses of red wine, the thought of those conversations being overheard, andi those conversations being overheard, and i suspect there are not many viewers today who have not had those sorts of arguments and would want them recorded. Just because you are standing for premise or public office, i think you still deserve a private life. Nobody can have a private life. Nobody can have a private life. Nobody can have a private life in public life we will lose good quality people going into politics, because no one will want to stop by the mail on sunday headline moves us elegantly away. Forget boozy stops, it says. His real problem is his mojo has gone missing. I think this is an interesting argument. There is a lot of criticism from lots of people that boris is too controlled. He is not exposing himself enough to media scrutiny. You can see the much tighter haircut, he has lost some weight stop he looks like a very disciplined character at the moment. That means perhaps he is avoiding gaffes. It also means that boris that a lot of people fell in love with at the 2012 olympics, the sort of buccaneer, bold boris. Yes they are succeeding in controlling him, but are the handles of him taking away the reason why people like him handlers. They think that is a dangerfor his handlers. They think that is a danger for his candidacy. Handlers. They think that is a dangerfor his candidacy. I think they column will be read by interests by boriss team. Were talking about borisjohnson all the time at the moment. There a question whetherjeremy hunt is getting enough scrutiny in terms of his campaign. There is important stuff going on in the wider world. This relationship or deteriorating relationship or deteriorating relationship between the us and iran. While we are obsessing about this, people like me are, there is a real tense situation in the gulf between these two heavily armed nations. Donald trump gets a lot of criticism, robert lee justifiably a lot of the time, but i can imagine other people in the white house who would have rushed more quickly to military action probably. The sunday telegraph has him saying eve ryo ne sunday telegraph has him saying everyone thought i was a warmonger and it turns out i am a dove. One of the reasons he became us president was that he opposed the iraq war. He repudiated the republican position on this. He said he would be relu cta nt to ta ke on this. He said he would be reluctant to take military action against iran but would impose tougher economic sanctions to a country already on its Economic Needs so it might face further hardship. When he explained about the fact that 150 civilians would die if he had gone ahead with that strike, that is what made him rein back. Oddly he wasnt told about that before. I suspect he was. At the start of the mission. You have a story about ticket prices on Rail Services that they want to get into a bit later. Thank you very much your time. See you a bit later. Thank you very much yourtime. See you in a bit later. Thank you very much your time. See you in a bit. Stay with us, headlines coming up. Hello, this is breakfast with rogerjohnson and rachel burden. Good morning, heres a summary of todays main stories from bbc news. A neighbour of Boris Johnson and his partner has defended calling the police after overhearing a row at the couples flat and passing a recording of the incident to a newspaper. Tom penn says his sole concern had been the couples safety. Mrjohnson brushed aside questions about what happened at the first tory leadership hustings event in birmingham yesterday. The Foreign Office minister, andrew murrison, is visiting the iranian capital tehran for talks aimed at easing tensions between iran and america. tx it comes as the New York Times claims the us launched a cyber attack on iranian Weapons Systems on thursday, as President Trump pulled out of air strikes on the country. It was in retaliation for the shooting down of a us drone as well as attacks on oil tankers that the us has blamed on iran. A Large Scale Campaign to plant forgeries and fake content on twitter and facebook has been uncovered by a group of researchers. The Atlantic CouncilsDigital Forensic research lab says the material originates from russia and is still going on, but it has had little impact. The russian state has always dismissed claims it is involved in these types of so called influence operations. Englands rivers are reaching crisis point, according to conservationists, with Climate Change and water extraction being blamed. Last years heatwave and dry winter caused chalk streams across the country to dry up, because the underground layer which feeds them the aquifer had next to no source of water. The Environment Agency says it has cut abstractions, but campaigners say stronger action is needed. Team sport players have as much endurance as Long Distance runners and can be as powerful as bodybuilders according now if you were watching yesterday you might remember the marvellous 81 year old Mavis Paterson as she attempted to become the oldest woman to cycle the 960 miles from lands end well were delighted to say that mavis has done it. Here she is at the finish. She tookjust over three weeks to complete the epicjourney which was in memory of her three grown up children who had all died within four years of one another. And as if her record breaking feat wasnt incredible enough, shes managed to raise more than 60,000 pounds for charity in the process. A huge match in the womens world cup. The big moment for england, playing cameroon, the last 16 of the tournament. England take on cameroon in the last 16 of the womens world cup later this afternoon, with a place in the quarter finals at stake. Lets cross live to valenciennes where the match is taking place and speak to our reporterjane dougall. How strong a test will cameroon provide . This will be a very different game, first and foremost it will be very challenging because cameroon are a physical side. They are currently the lowest ranked team still in the competition, and they managed to get to the knockout stages. I spoke to the england midfielderjill scott yesterday about the last time any england players were involved in a match with cameroon. It is when they played in the olympics, they were a very physical side. They are going to be playing england, third in the world, this is a huge match for them soi world, this is a huge match for them so i imagine they will be throwing everything at it. That could mean some reckless challenges potentially going on. Phil neville said he was aware of that, he also said it might affect his starting lineup, they would be taking that into account. They are a team that is very unpredictable. I dont think they are a team that is the 46th best team in the world, i think they are better than that. Their performances, i think they are probably alongside us in the group. Dangerous players in the attacking third. That is something we have not really experienced so far. We watched England Training yesterday, and they are feeling pretty confident, and why shouldnt they be. They won three games out of three, came top of their group, and they want to win the world cup. A very relaxed mood in the camp as well after arriving here in northern france. Some of the members of the squad were out Drinking Coffee in the town, and peoplejust leaving them alone, watching them, knowing who they were but not approaching them. So feeling very relaxed and confident as well. One of the issues later in the day is going to be the heatin later in the day is going to be the heat in the stadium. We are anticipating, and the forecasts are saying, upwards of 30 degrees, it will be challenging for the players. I dont know if you remember, but the first match they played against scotla nd the first match they played against scotland was in nice and it was pretty challenging. We know they are going to cope with them, but it will bea going to cope with them, but it will be a huge match for england, the first one in the knockout stages against cameroon. The winner of england cameroon will face norway after they beat australia on penalties. The game finished 1 all after extra time and so went to a penalty shoot out. The game finished 1 1 after extra time and so went to a penalty shootout. Australia missed their first two including this by top scorer and captain sam kerr. Really looking forward to the football later. I feel like they have another gear, i know they have won three out of three but i feel there is a bit more in the tank. You would think on paper they are going to pose a very different challenge. Heres nick with a look at this mornings weather. You keep showing us all these lovely sunny skies from yesterday. Why not celebrate the glorious day that was . Before we get onto the other part of the forecast, which is later today, because things are changing. For many of us, today is going to be a fine day, and as we get into tonight and the next few days, a chance of some torrential thundery downpours in places, but not everywhere. Later in the week it looks a bit more settled, and temperatures looked to be soaring for some of us, as we will discover ina for some of us, as we will discover in a moment. Big picture for today, low pressure to the south west and to the north east. Between coming in from the south east, this weather front is getting closer. In cornwall, cloudy with outbreaks of rain moving in this morning. Across more of South West England, wales, Northern England. Cloudy elsewhere, some hazy sunshine, a few showers in scotland, north of the central belt in particular. Perhaps feeling cooler along the north sea coast, but for some in east anglia and south east england, your temperature will be reaching into the mid 20s. We will focus on the rain tonight, so this is where it is and this is where it is moving northwards. Through north wales and Northern England in particular, there could be potentially thundery downpours, with up to 50 millimetres of rain. That gives a chance of flash flooding and disruption. That moves on towards scotland, particularly eastern scotland. Rainfall could be mounting, particularly on high ground, as the rain is on and off. Bursts of thunder possible as well. A lot of cloud around, showers and thunderstorms towards the midlands and Northern England, pushing up towards eastern scotland once again. A fresh area of storms and more disruption as possible. Hazy sunshine in the dry spots and high teens, low 20s for many of us. Downpours in scotland and then going through the night thunderstorms coming in toward south east england and east anglia, some places could get a deluge out of that. The odd shower and thunderstorm. A few places into the 20s, warm spots in the mid 20s, very humid with all of that as well. There is your stormy few days as we start the week, not everybody getting them but the potential is there in some spots. After that, High Pressure becomes more dominant, but tapping into the air heating up throughout the week across continental europe. It looks like by the end of the week and into next weekend, temperatures will be heading up, particularly across southern and western parts of the uk. Quite cool along the north sea coast with a breeze, may be misty in places. The heat will be building for some, maybe getting into the low 30s, you could be seeing 25 or 26 degrees with some hot sunshine. So, we have had a fairly low key summer so far, but it is all change. Storms are picking up but the heat and humidity is building as well. It will be an active week. Who do you think is likely to have designed your car or built your house . The stats suggest it was likely to have been a man. But today the government says getting more women into engineering is vital for the future of the country. Take a look at these figures according to engineering uk, only 12 of engineers are female. And when it comes to school, just over 27 of girls choose science, technology, engineering or maths at a level, compared to 45. 6 of boys. Lets find out why werejoined by elizabeth donnelly, from the Womens Engineering Society and Charlotte Cooper who works at jaguar land rover. Just explain why you think this discrepancy exists. It is not new news, but we need to figure out what is behind it. Engineering uk was founded to try to push more women into engineering. It is seen as a ha rd into engineering. It is seen as a hard subject, to do with maths or physics. We need to talk about the fa ct physics. We need to talk about the fact that engineering will solve problems like Climate Change. We save more lives than doctors through things like water sanitation. Charlotte, how did you end up finding your way into what sounds like a greatjob . Finding your way into what sounds like a great job . I was very lucky, i had supportive parents who told me i could do whatever i wanted to do. We we re i could do whatever i wanted to do. We were just discussing that i went to an allgirls we were just discussing that i went to an all girls school, although not for everyone had made a massive difference. There were 15 girls doing physics, and they were really supportive of stem subjects. I then graduated from the university of glasgow. There were about 20 of us any year of about 200, which can be any year of about 200, which can be a bit weird. It is a great environment in terms of the kinship of the women you meet, you quickly build a bond, so that is really great. A bit weird when you are applying for university and you go to an interview and there are 60 guysin to an interview and there are 60 guys in the room and you appointed to the corner where the girls are. 17 or18, to the corner where the girls are. 17 or 18, that can be a lot. It has been great. I then did the underground and came back to the graduate scheme and i am part of the women in engineering network. Elizabeth, we talked of the take up of stem subjects at school. This goes to how girls, in particular, are bought up. Even before primary children are aware that there are girls things and boys things. Even half the doctors in the uk are now women, ina half the doctors in the uk are now women, in a school play boys will say boys are doctors and girls are nurses. It is so depressing. It is depressing. What is the best thing you can do with your children, give them trying to be creative, through them trying to be creative, through the lego box at them . Absolutely. Lego, cars, encourage them to be inquisitive. Ask them how they think things were made. You can talk about things were made. You can talk about things like ridges. People think of a bridge as a level Playing Field between two points, but you need to have things to hold it up and then you need to make sure that there is enough force going down otherwise the bridge will collapse. Just asking them questions like that really helps. My boy sees me because they got the so excited about the clifton suspension bridge. None of them are engineers. I was there last week and it was absolutely gorgeous. Although you went to glasgow university, as you are saying, you dont necessarily have to go to university to become an engineer. No, it is International Women in engineering day today and tomorrow the Womens Engineering Society is celebrating the top 50 women in engineering for 2019 and their current and former princes. Our theme is transform the future because we wanted to show young women and girls that you can go into engineering through apprenticeships or through university and that those apprentices, the women who started out as apprentices years ago, are now Running Companies and they are doing really, really great creative stuff. Only to current apprentices we are celebrating, even though they are only one or two years into that of ownership and a very young they are doing amazing things. Charlotte, in terms of the world of employment in the future, this is absolutely the field to be in full massively, massively. And so rewarding. Personally, ive always been a curious person and wondered how things worked. The possibilities are endless, i think. Things worked. The possibilities are endless, ithink. It is things worked. The possibilities are endless, i think. It is a corny phrase, but it is genuinely true. Ive looked at architecture and several other careers that had an art and mass element. And engineering, for me, there are 70 options and some things you can do. Have you ever come cases of discrimination or attitudes from people in the profession . So many. Go to the corner where the other girls are. Another case for me was when applying for university, again, the head of engineering looked at me and decided i was not necessarily the type of person they wanted and suggested i try eight softer subject. Which is, you know, im sure lots of people. There needs to be culture change. 10096. When you have all male environments and they are, likea have all male environments and they are, like a lot of all male environments, veryjokey are, like a lot of all male environments, very jokey and are, like a lot of all male environments, veryjokey and taking the mickey out of each other. Blokey. If you are young women dont necessarily have the confidence that can be very difficult. We find when we do put women into those environments the teams work Better Together and we end up with being able to solve problems. At the moment, a lot of the wild is designed without women in mica moore just to our detriment. When you put a woman into the team things get better without women in mind. What do you do atjaguar land rover . Lam what do you do atjaguar land rover . Iaman what do you do atjaguar land rover . I am an innovation lead. Im super lucky that my boss is a woman and my team is mostly women. Its really great. At the forefront of the future of engineering. My work in that area. This network has been really key. Thank you both for coming in. Charlotte, elizabeth. Thank you. It is 7 49. Time now for the travel show. This week on the travel show 50 years since stonewall, were in new york ahead of the world pride celebration. Its only now that we realise what a big impact they all made. And i paint the town black at a festival for goths. That is cool. I am not sure if i get past customs here. Laughter. This week im exploring whitby in the north east of england. Its a pretty town, with a bit of a dark side. More than 120 years ago, this place inspired the creation of one of literatures most terrifying monsters. Stay tuned to find out which one. But first. We are in new york as the city gears up to host 4 million visitors for world pride, perhaps the biggest event in the calendar for many in the community. This year will be especially pregnant though, as it marks the 50th anniversary of the stonewall riots, an event that marked the start of the struggle for recognition, rights and respect. We sent the bbcs lgbt correspondent, ben hunte, to find out more. New york, a city that has always held a special place in my heart. I love the pace, the energy, and the excitement. But more than anything its a city that i found inclusive, where people like me can be themselves. When i was growing up, i didnt really think about what had happened before i was alive to enable me to live such a free and open lie. It is something i think a lot of young people go through now. You just find yourself within a community thats really loving and accepting and you dont think about the history behind it. So its so nice to come to new york and see that, actually, for the 50th anniversary of stonewall, we are celebrating the past, we looking into the people that really allowed us to be so free and open now. In the us, the 19605 was an era of activism and protests. It was the end of the counter culture. 1960s, women were fighting for their rights, blacks were fighting for their rights, latinos were fighting for their rights, and we just said, what about us . Why not us . Why not me . Onjune 28, 1969, the riots at the Stonewall Inn, on christopher street, would mark the birth of the modern gay rights movement. So this is where its at. Yes. Its where it all happened. Mark segal was 18 at the time and had arrived in the cityjust a few weeks earlier. Now youre seeing ll the rainbow flags on it. What is like to be back here . It is a sort of emotional. I think of the people who helped educate me, or what we needed to do to create a real movement, to create real equality. What was it like that night . Just like any other normal night. We were inside, we were having a great time. I was standing in the back, near the dance floor. Lights flickered on, then they came on, full force. I looked over to someone and said, whats happening . They said, very casually, its a raid. I had never been in a raid before so i was a little nervous. Police barged in and just started pushing people around. And anybody looked like they were successful, they went up to them and said, take out your wallet and they took the money. It was, you know, it was out and out graft right in front face and they did not care because thats the way you got to treat gay men and lesbian women in those days. You treated them like trash. So they cornered me, i went out and i stood about right over there. Out here, somewhere between 50 and 100. Police tried to disperse us. We would not disperse. It was the first time the gay people said to police, no, this is our neighbourhood, youre not going to tell us to get off our street. We picked up stones, we picked up cans, and threw them. And that was the first riot. The protests raged for several nights and led to the first pride march in 1970. The Stonewall Inn has since become a historic landmark and attracts visitors from across the globe, keen to learn about the struggles. Was it legal to serve gay people alcohol . And it was awesome. It was not easy. Many of us went to jail. Many of us were beat. It has been a long 50 years but, guess what, 00 54 21,377 2147483052 03 55,403 we are further along 2147483052 03 55,403 4294966103 13 29,430 than i would have ever expected
