10 YEARS AGO (2011): The Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner was held in the Epicurean Room at the Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School. At this time, the Council on Aging, as well as Marlborough Mayor Nancy Stevens, recognized local volunteers for their efforts. Geraldine (Gerrie) Cavicchio and Lawrence Vifquain were honored with Volunteer of the Year 2011 awards that included Certificates of Recognition from the Mayor and Volunteer of the Year 2011 plaques from the Council on Aging. Gerrie Cavicchio was acknowledged for her valuable volunteer efforts and commitment to the citizens in the community through her generosity, service and willingness to help others. Larry Vifquain was acknowledged for his valuable volunteer efforts and commitment to the citizens in the community as the founder of FISH (Friends in Service Helping). The FISH program was designed to assist seniors with free transportation to medical appointments. In addition to the honored guests, those volunteers attending were presented with certificates of thanks from the Marlborough Council on Aging for going the extra mile and in recognition of exemplary dedication to volunteer service for the COA organization. Also, each volunteer received a framed quote, featuring words spoken by the late Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give.” Those attending included Arthur Vigeant, Marlborough City Councilor; Don Landers, Marlborough City Councilor; Jennifer Claro, Council on Aging Executive Director; Susan Maki, COA Social Service Coordinator; Ana Christina Oliveira, COA Outreach Coordinator; and Sharon Collari, COA Principal Clerk.
