COLUMBUS, Ohio – Anavia Battle, Ohio State track and field’s outstanding All-American and seven-time Big Ten Conference champion, has earned the initial women’s track athlete of the week honor by the conference. The Big Ten made the announcement on Wednesday.
Battle, a senior from Inkster, Mich., and Wayne Memorial High School who is majoring in human development and family studies, returned to her home state to compete in the Simmons-Harvey Big Ten Invite, hosted by the University Michigan, and came away with two wins in two races and two meet records.
The 2020 Big Ten indoor track athlete of the championships and the year, Battle broke the Simmons-Harvey record by winning the 60-meter dash in 7.35, breaking teammate Devine Parker’s year-old mark of 7.37. And later in the afternoon Battle broke her own Simmons-Harvey meet record at 200 meters (23.50 in 2019) by cruising to a win in 23.26.
