Our CorrespondentImphal, June 25 (EMN): After detecting the contagious African swine fever (ASF) at a piggery in Manipur’s Kamjong district on June 2, positive cases of ASF were also reported at the state-run pig breeding farm at Hiyanglam in Kakching district, officials said on Saturday. Deputy Commissioner of Kakching issued an order in this regard on Friday and took up the necessary containment measures in the geographical areas of the pig breeding farm at Hiyanglam in view of the impending threat of ASF to prevent the spread of the disease in the area. The breeding farm at Hiyanglam has been declared as “control areas” for ASF under Section 6 of “The prevention and control of infectious and contagious diseases in animal Act, 2002”. “No pig shall be moved from the place where it is kept within the controlled area”, the DC said in the order and banned the sale of pig, pork, feed and related items. It further stated that the area falling within one km from the epicentre of the disease is declared as an “infected zone” and areas falling within nine km radius from the epicentre as a “surveillance zone” for taking up control and containment procedures.
