16 more infections reported Thursday, nine linked to mutant strain

Another 16 cases of COVID-19 were recorded on Thursday in the Sudbury area, more than half of which screened positive for a variant of concern.
While four cases were simultaneously resolved, the net increase of 12 to the active caseload brought that tally to 124, by far the largest since the pandemic began.

Nine of the new cases showed evidence of stemming from a mutant strain of the virus, known to spread more easily, and all but one were in Greater Sudbury. The other was in Sudbury District.
