A look back at history: The men who helped rebuild the William & Mary faculty in 1888

William & Mary has had to suspend operations of the school a few times, during the Civil War and again in 1881 when its fi­nancial resources were depleted. In 1888, the school was able to reopen with faculty who became known as the "Seven Wise Men."
