The fatality raised the area death toll related to COVID-19 to 556 — 387 in Lake County and 169 in Sumter.
Details about recent local deaths were not immediately available, due to a recent change by the DOH in the way it reports fatalities on its website. DOH offices in Tallahassee and in Lake County did not respond to emails seeking information.
A combined total of 160 new confirmed cases of the potentially deadly coronavirus were reported in and Lake and Sumter counties in Monday’s update — 133 in Lake County and 27 in Sumter. Since March, when the DOH began issuing daily updates on the spread and impact of COVID-19, Lake has reported 20,797 cases and officials in Sumter County have confirmed 6,777 cases.
