A former Hamilton Island worker claims she was bullied and harassed at work, while others allege they worked hours of overtime for no extra pay only to be ordered to leave the Island with just three days' notice during the COVID-19 shutdown.
The Courier-Mail first revealed in March that
Staff claim they routinely racked up excessive unpaid overtime and worked through their breaks, but complaints to Island owner Hamilton Island Enterprises that they were being short changed were ignored for years.
HIE has launched a pay review and begun back paying salaried staff on the Island - owned by the billionaire Oatley family - tens of thousands of dollars dating back to at least 2018 amid a Fair Work Ombudsman investigation, blaming "complexities involving interpreting the nearly 40 awards applicable" for the issues.
