The idea for a community station in Frogtown and the surrounding neighborhoods began in 2011 when President Obama signed the Local Community Radio Act, which opened up 1,000 low-power FM radio licenses to non-profits and community groups nationwide.
Non-profits and individual activists from from Frogtown/Summit-University (St.
Paul) and Phillips (Minneapolis) got together to discuss what community radio could bring to their neighborhoods.
Together, they formed the Twin Cities Community Radio (TCCR) and supported each other through the process of applying for broadcast licenses with the FCC.
The upcoming Frogtown station is a result of this project.
We are continuing to work with other burgeoning low-power FM stations to bring promote community radio and media justice across the Twin Cities.
