Travis Varble, 44, was set to go to trial on multiple felony counts on March 22 when he agreed to plead guilty to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. Circuit Judge Kyle Napp oversaw the proceedings. “This plea ensures Varble will be incarcerated into his 80’s,” said Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine in a written statement. “It also prevents the further victimization of the minor in this matter, ensuring that she does not have to come into court to testify or present evidence of her graphic sexual assaults to the public. ....
Immigrant shot in central Laredo stash house March 6, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail Valdez/ Two people are behind bars in connection with the shooting of an immigrant at a stash house in central Laredo, according to a criminal complaint filed on March 1. The case unfolded at about 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 25, when U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Corpus Christi Station detained 24 immigrants from an eastbound Kansas City Southern train near Agua Dulce, Texas. One immigrant was identified as Noe Perez-Ixtupe. He had a bandage on his left arm. Asked about what happened, Perez-Ixtupe stated that he was shot in the arm at a stash house in Laredo. He was able to provide GPS coordinates, and authorities located the home in the 1600 block of San Jorge Avenue. Agents in Laredo set up surveillance at the location. ....
