Eromosele Abiodun The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘C’ Owerri has announced that it intercepted tramadol and other contraband goods with a duty paid value (DPV) of N99.82 million between April and June this year. The command in a statement revealed that five suspects were arrested in connection to the seizures which included: 45 rolls containing 4,500 sachets of 225mg of royal brand of tramadol, 210 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice, 18 parcels of Indian Hemp, 19, 725 sachets of dizapam tablet, 98 bales of used clothing, 220 cartons of foreign tomatoes paste, 12 cartons of foreign Johnson soap, 240 pieces of used tyres, 668 pairs of used shoes, among others. ....
Mr Attah said, “The service generated the sum of N1.003trn from January to June, 2021, as against the N713.548bn generated in the first half of 2020; with a positive difference of N290.204bn. “Hitting the trillion naira mark within six months is unprecedented in the service. This feat is as a result of resolute pursuit of what is right and willingness to adapt to changes brought about by global health challenges occasioned by COVID-19.” He attributed the revenue increase to the ongoing reforms by the service through the potentials of technology. He also said, “The service, between January and June, 2021, effected 2,333 assorted seizures with DPV of N4.422bn. The seizures include arms and ammunition, illicit drugs and food items.” ....

A chieftain of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Oyo State, Engineer Oyedele Hakeem Alao has declared the killing of some residents of Iseyin in Oyo State by some Customs officers as unacceptable. Alao, who contested gubernatorial election on the platform of AD in 2019, described the killing of the innocent citizens outside the borders and seizure of some truckloads of rice at Bodija and Oja Oba markets in Ibadan as arbitrary, appalling and nauseating. DAILY POST recalls that no fewer than four people were killed during a clash between smugglers and some customs officers in Iseyin recently. Daily Post Nigeria Published Nigerian troops of Sector II located in Damaturu axis of Yobe apprehended the collaborators, including logistic suppliers. The troops were led by Major Daniel Chiwar, the Acting Commander of 154 Taskforce, according to PRNigeria. The suspects were found in their hideout at Bulamari area of Ngamdu in Borno State. Items recovered included huge containers of petroleum products they supply to insurgents. However, soldiers engaged Boko Haram, with several gun trucks, at Rann in the Kala Balge area of Borno State at the weekend. The troops, led by Lt. Colonel Samson Olashegbe of 3 Battalion, eliminated some terrorists, destroyed some of the trucks and recovered others. ....
