.- Clarence Williams III, the reflectively intense actor who starred as Linc Hayes, the young, hip undercover police officer with the perfect Afro and a way with the word “solid” on ABC’s “The Mod Squad,” died Friday in Los Angeles. He was 81.
The cause was colon cancer, his manager, Allan Mindel, said. ....

Mary V. Ahern, who was an important behind-the-scenes figure on the cultural magazine show “Omnibus” and other early television programs, then helped preserve those and similar touchstones of television history as the Paley Center for Media’s first curator, died on May 1 at a care center in Peabody, Mass. Arthur Kopit, the avant-garde playwright who thrust Off Broadway into a new era with the absurdist satirical farce “Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mamma’s Hung You in the Closet and I’m Feelin’ So Sad” and earned Tony Award nominations for two wildly different plays, “Indians” and “Wings,” and the musical “Nine,” died on Friday at his home in Manhattan.
