A FASCINATING historic artefact discovered during roadworks is to be rejuvenated and permanently displayed after the improvement works are completed. The structure - a large metal crown - was unearthed by Howard Civil Engineering during the major ongoing restructuring project at Greengates Crossroads. It was found on the site of the long demolished Roebuck pub, while workers were creating a new entrance for Farmfoods last year. The construction firm handed the mysterious artefact to the Friends of Greengates Cenotaph community group and Secretary, Michael Frazer, got to working finding out about its origins. It turned out the structure likely had a rather important role to play in the area s history. ....
Shots of the progress being made at the junction of Harrogate Road and New Line in Greengates THE latest update on the ongoing roadworks at Greengates junction says significant work has been carried out in the past fortnight. Work has been ongoing for some time on the major, multi-million pound improvements to the junction of Harrogate Road and New Line, which includes the installation of a new P-loop to ease traffic congestion. Being carried out by Howard Civil Engineering and Bradford Council, in the latest fortnightly update it was said significant changes can now be seen at the site. The roadworks team said: Passers-by to the P-loop area will have noticed a significant change over the past two weeks, as we have completed the surfacing to the new road and the widened stretch of Harrogate Road outside Aldo s Italian. ....
ENTHUSIASTIC pupils at Greengates Primary Academy have taken a leaf out of Captain Tom’s book and vowed to undertake a series of exercises to raise money for the NHS. Inspired by Captain Tom’s 100 laps of his garden and his recent passing, students are challenging themselves in what they are calling the “Captain Tom Challenge” to perform 100 reps of their chosen activity. The campaign was sparked by school principal Andy Gaunt who set up a JustGiving page with an initial target of just £100. “We were inspired by Captain Tom’s attitude, selflessness and grit throughout the pandemic, and we were all very upset to hear of his passing,” he said. “We were about six weeks into home-schooling and, it gave us a good reason to bring the children together and establish a common goal for them to work towards.” ....
