Robbery victim chased suspect down interstate

KNOXVILLE — The victim of an alleged armed robbery in Sevierville Friday pursued the man accused of robbing him at gunpoint down I-40, staying behind him after Knox County Sheriff’s deputies located them on the interstate. Incident reports indicate KCSO apprehended the accused robber, 18-year-old Trevon Marquis Allen, of Knoxville, after he fled a traffic stop and then struck a utility pole at the Asheville Highway exit. Charles Sutton said he met Allen at the Fastop near Exit 407 to purchase a car, but Allen pulled out a shotgun and took the money he’d brought for the transaction. Sutton showed investigators text messages between the two of them setting up the meeting. The two met at the gas station at about 2 a.m. Friday, according to reports.

Fishing report: Tips for making the catch on the river

There are plenty of spots to fish locally, but the area has been blessed with some of the best rivers around. Veteran fisherman Rex Pendergrass of Watson’s Marine and Tackle knows all about what to use on the rolling waters of places like the Holston River or any other small mountain stream around. “We’re blessed with some really good rivers in our area,” Pendergrass said. “One of the best things to use is a suspending jerk bait. These little things are dynamite in about all of our area streams and rivers. “They’re excellent for trout, and bass will bite them, too.”

Sheriff Lawson: Summer Wells case nowhere even close to being cold

Summer Wells It’s been nearly a month since 5-year-old Summer Wells went missing, and although a massive ground search ended after 13 days, Lawson told the Times News on Friday his department is still working 24/7 to find her. “Right now it’s nowhere even close to being cold,” Lawson said. “We’re still very active and intense in it. Right now calling this a cold case is not even an option.” As of Friday, investigators had checked out more than 800 tips via 1-800-TBI-Find since Summer disappeared on June 15, but Lawson said there are still no solid leads. Police have asked the public to help find the driver of a reddish Toyota pickup that was seen in the Beech Creek and Ben Hill roads area on June 14-15.
