He did it! This morning at 10:19 UTC, 11:19 German time, Boris Herrmann sailed across the finish line off Les Sables-d Olonne after exactly 80 days, 20 hours, 59 minutes and 45 seconds at sea, making him the first German skipper in the history of the VendÃ©e Globe to complete this race. After a total of 28 448 miles sailed, his Seaexplorer-Yacht Club de Monaco finished as the fifth boat in the fleet, 4 hours 34 minutes behind Frenchman Thomas Ruyant. ....

Boris Herrmann is Germany s best-known sailing athlete and one of 33 skippers who set off sailing 45,000 kilometers non-stop around the globe in the Vendée Globe, the world s toughest single-handed sailing race. Herrmann has also been involved in environmental and marine protection for years. At the beginning of 2020, he initiated and launched a mangrove reforestation project in the Philippines called Malizia Mangrove Park as a climate protection measure. The goal is to plant 1 million mangroves during the Vendée Globe Race and thereafter at maliziamangrovepark.de. The 200,000 mark was reached in the last days. ....
